Outside of DB and Fowler, he never replaced any of his 2011/12 defensive talent with the same or better. And no future years' defensive teams were ever as good as those first two years. He steadily declined from there. We were undersized up front, had fillers at LB and routinely played undisciplined football. He also completely skewed the stats by having such a putrid offense that opponents were content scoring a few points and then shutting their offenses down.

To your last point, I agree. He's a good DC that can at times shut things down. My thoughts in the Game Thread were to throw some wrinkles at him in the second half. He's usually decent at making halftime adjustments. But I think we can win straight up, and work in different looks in the 3rd and 4th, if need be, where he won't have the time to adjust.

I dont know about all that in the first paragraph. Butters came in and enjoyed that Muschamp defense the first two years. And I would argue the exact opposite. Defensive stats were skewed because of all those damn 3 and outs our O put on them as well as turnovers. The only games we really won came from our D.

I watched as much of the 2006 season live as I could, but did get to watch every single game by dvd sent to me while I was in Iraq. .
That excuse is accepted. Thanks for serving.

It was a shytfest though. Basically this year w one more FG per game (scored mostly 17-20 points in SEC games... and even in the better games didnt score til late). Defense of course was lights out by the end of the year and STs were astonishingly good (Creyer) the whole year. (IMO STs 06-08 were probably the best ever at any school.)

The OSU game was really the only game in which they used Leak's talent and threw the ball downfield.

Leak would have been an assassin under SOS.

But, to my point that you maneuvered right around, he is a good enough defensive coach to know how to shut down a one trick pony offense led by a true freshman.
Last year’s UGay team says otherwise

Been a fan since mid-70s.

I watched as much of the 2006 season live as I could, but did get to watch every single game by dvd sent to me while I was in Iraq. RayGator from GC sent the videos to me and I am always grateful for it. So, I probably watched more than you did and with much more enjoyment since it took me away from the present.

You are rightt ... he didn't win it by running. In fact, he lost some first downs because he slid too soon or ran out of bounds too soon and it frustrated the crap out of me. But in the end ... he did what he needed to do, which was what Mullen asked him to do.

Thank you for your service!

I'm shocked that our QB gets injured during a fall practice. I mean seriously--how in the royal **** does that happen?!?
Same way your QB gets popped for PEDs a week after his best game. Because we are cursed.

Texas' defense sucked under Muschamp. Ours was only good because of the Meyer studs that were left, and Auburn couldn't wait to run him out of town on a rail.
Muschamp has already made a mark on a Texas defense that was expected to struggle because of its youth.

The Longhorns lead the Big 12 in rushing defense (82.5 yards per game) and scoring defense (19.5 points per game), good for 25th nationally in both categories. The Longhorns rank second nationally with four sacks per game, have limited all of their Big 12 opponents below their season scoring average and limited six of their opponents to 14 points or less.
Muschamp to coach Longhorns when Brown retires

Auburn surprised folks last year because they were so good on the lines of scrimmage,” one SEC coach said anonymously. “Will Muschamp was there for one year as defensive coordinator, but he made such an impact on the way Auburn recruited. He pushed the idea of building from the inside out, from the lines to the skill players. That’s where Auburn is right now, that’s why they will continue to grow under Gus."

Anonymous SEC Coach: Muschamp deserves assist for Auburn defense

  • From 1997-2014, the Auburn defense has held their opponent to 11.3% below the opponent's seasonal average in yardage per game.

  • From 2009-2014, the Auburn defense has held their opponent to 2.9% below their seasonal average.

  • During the Will Muschamp era (2006-2007), the Auburn defense held their opponent to20.3% below the opponent's season average.

  • During Will Muschamp's final season at Auburn, the Tiger defense had the opponent to24.4% below the opponent's season average in yardage per game. This was the 2nd best performance by an Auburn defense from 1997-2014.

  • From 1997-2014, Auburn held their opponent to 26.4% below the opponent's scoring average for the season.

  • From 2009-2014, Auburn held their opponent to 13.9% below the opponent's scoring average for the season.

  • With Will Muschamp as Auburn's defensive coordinator, the Tigers held their opponent to43.7% below the opponent's scoring average.

  • Will Muschamp's final Auburn defense held their opponent to 45.5% below the opponent's scoring average, the second best performanceby an Auburn defense from 1997-2014.

  • During Muschamp's tenure as Auburn's defensive coordinator, the Tigers faced 9 teams that average over 400-yards per game. Those 9 teams averaged 430-yards per game but were held to an average of 315-yards per game against Auburn.

  • During Muschamp's tenure as Auburn's defensive coordinator, the Tigers faced 11 teams that average over 30-points per game. Those 11 teams average 34.8 points per game but were held to an average of 17.7 points per game against Auburn.

  • From 1992-2014, the Auburn defense held their opponent to 17.9% below the opponent's rushing average.

  • From 2009-2014, the Auburn defense held their opponent to 8.4% below the opponent's rushing average.

  • During Muschamp's tenure as Auburn's defensive coordinator, the Auburn defense held their opponent to 19.3% below the opponent's rushing average. His 2007 defense held the opponent to 26.1% below the opponent's rushing average.

  • From 1992-2004, the Auburn pass-defense held their opponent to a pass-efficiency average of 117.5.

  • From 2009-2014, the Auburn pass-defense held their opponent to a pass-efficiency average of 130.3.

Theamazing aspect of Muschamp's accomplishments as DC at Auburn was 67.8% of the scholarship players he had to work with on the defensive side of the ball were 3-star recruits or less.

Mac's first 2 years his defenses ranked:
15:
8 in total D
13 in passing D
25 in rushing D
11 in scoring D

16:

5 in total D
2 in passing D
37 in rushing D
6 in scoring D
cfbstats.com - 2016 National Team Leaders

2017:
31 in total D
28 in passing D
50 in rushing D
69 in scoring D

We all saw what happened when WM recruits left and Mac recruiting took over. In fact every category dropped by double digits in 2017.

How's Grantham doing with Mac recruits:

2018:
33 in total D
19 passing D
79 in rushing D
27 in scoring D

Pretty much the same except scoring is down

There's never been a more overrated "defensive mind" in college football, ever. I don't give a shcit what the stats say. When teams wanted to score ,they scored. And only once he put a solid defense on the field while he was here. And that was with meyer's recruits and Dan Quinn coaching em. His defenses at USCe haven't been very good.
