It's hard for me to believe that Saban begged an assistant to do anything. He's a dictator not a coaxer.
Never before released behind the scenes video of Saban begging his assistants to do what he wants:

 Definitely not loving this hire, not even a little.

Yeah, I'm not too excited about it. Michigan just fired their HC in large part because of how lousy their offense was.

But who is to blame for the offense? Maybe the HC dictated the offense and the OC had little input.

Who knows? All I do know is their offense was putrid and he was the OC.

It was putrid before he got there. He was only the OC for Michigan for one year. Does his being the OC for Bama not count?

Hmm. @SDS: #Florida Football: Nussmeier plus McElwain is darn near cheating
Thanks for sharing. That was a good read and I can only hope that we see the success described in the article.

Sure it counts, but he also had an NFL roster to work with. Our talent pool is more similar to Michigan right now...not Bama.

I'm convinced there is nothing in life that makes you happy.

I'm not saying this is the worst post ever, but it doesn't really excite me either.

@coachingsearch: What is Florida getting in Doug Nussmeier? A look at his offenses… READ: http://bit.ly/1td1adm http://twitter.com/coachingsearch/status/547805981603037184/photo/1

I like what he says about finishing out the staff.

“It’s about making sure all the parts fit together,” McElwain said earlier this week. “Like-thinkers who are in it not as independent contractors, but are in it for these young men and in it to affect their lives in a positive way. That’s how we’re doing it. You’ll start to see some guys trickle in as we finish up some bowl games and the NFL season and get after it after the first of the year.”

At the end of the day, you need players to make plays. That wasn't happening at Michigan. From what I've been reading, Al Borges, Nussmeier's predecessor, did little to prepare Devin Gardner to be a top-notch major-college quarterback, which goes a long way toward explaining the 2014 results. I expect McElwain and Nussmeier to work together on the Florida offense, on tutoring the quarterbacks and, most important, on game-day management. Lord knows they've both had tremendous success doing so in the SEC back to back at Alabama.

Give this hire some time to simmer. These two know each other and apparently mesh well. This could be a great hire.
