That's the number one thing that comes to mind every time I hear his name. He was so excited at the opportunity to become a Gator. Nothing was handed to him like the rest of the high profile recruits. He wanted it and he made it happen. I love the story. I believe he is going to be a leader and the face of the program at some point.
Welcome back!

I love watching his HS tape. He gets through the hole in a hurry, changes directions well, and isn't afraid to run over people.

Sounds like a combination of Travis Henry, Percy Harvin and Lawrence Phillips.

Honestly I've seen this song and dance before with freshman lighting it up in camp and not getting touches during the year. He will get carries but I still believe it will be sparingly...

Scarlett and Perine both tore it up in the fall is what the writers have said...Thompson might be the one getting shorted carries; perhaps just a short yardage back like i thought all along

I think we are going to have a very crowded backfield. The one thing we don't know is if Perine (who I think will end up being a stud) is doing all this against first or second team defense. He may be running a lot of drills or scrimmage time against the second team which is why he is able to break more tackles. Still a good thing that he is doing that, but I'm not sure if he means he is going to jump Cronkite, Scarlett or Thompson.

It would be something to see a RB wearing #22 in the Orange and Blue again.

Don't forget he was on Bama's radar too, and they tried real hard to keep him in their state.

Two things that stood out to me from that article:
“It felt good to have a big school like that come after me, regardless of my rating,” ..... Stars didn’t matter to them. They saw how much talent I had.”

I really do believe that these "stars" matter to the fans way more than they matter to Coach Mac and company. They seem to really believe in their own ability to evaluate talent and not give a sh!t about what some fat, balding, pinhead talent scout thinks (many of whom have never even played high school football, much less played or coached at the college level). Do I want us to sign more 4 and 5 stars? Of course. But I really am pleased with how they've recruited on the offensive side of the ball, which has been our nemesis for years now. Obviously we need to land a stellar defensive class this year too.

.... Just really, really excited. Going into Alabama and get the No. 1 back in the state.....

THAT is just friggin awesome! Add to that we currently have the commitment from the #1 back the state of FLORIDA this year (even if he is a little flaky and sports a neck tattoo). UF, home to the likes of Neal Anderson, Emmitt Smith and Fred Taylor, is well on it's way to claiming the title of Running Back U. If Perine is as good as he seems to be and we keep Lemon's on board, we are going to be absolutely loaded at RB next year. I haven't been this excited about the running back position at UF in a long, long time.

I agree that star ratings sell subscriptions to different websites. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Mac and Co scoop up a few 5's and more 4's. Who wouldn't? These kids get stars by their exposure to camps and so on. Some of the these kids can't afford to go or maybe just 1 camp. I know there is correlation to NC and stars, i don't disagree. However, Mac has to take a few lower rated prospects in order to build our future. Coaches don't care about stars. Mac has an eye for talent. This year we will really see because most of the skill guys are his. Production on the field this season will go a long way towards our recruiting. I wish we had the official roster he inherited and be able to compare it to what he has today.

(1) You are correct. Perine is a prime example of that. The kid had to mow grass just to save up enough money for bus fare to come and camp in G'ville... in an attempt to earn recognition and a scholly offer. (I love this kid already)

(2) Yes. I believe he does. Think about the 2015 class. No one was particularly excited about Antonio Callaway. Mac knew he was special and all he did was go on the set a UF record for most receiving yards for a freshman...ever...

(3) Agreed. A competent offense, that in no way resembles the Bad News Bears, and hopefully a continuation of solid defense will show recruits that Mac is rebuilding the brand, so to speak.

I also think reclaiming the mystique of "The Swamp" will be huge. No more patsies showing up with a belief that they can actually beat us. No more mid level or lower level SEC teams coming in here and walking out with a "W". We need to annihilate the lesser teams and use "home field advantage" to overcome the great teams. Making "The Swamp" the most feared place to play in college football will excite the fans and make high school kids dream of the privilege of being able to play there.

(4) Hell Yeah! Go Gators! Can't wait for the season to start!

And Callaway did that with Treon for half the year.

guys, I dont want to be a debbie downer, but can we this kid actually perform in a game before we slob his knob.
Pre-season talk is very cheap

I dunno about you, but I'm starting to notice a trend. When coach JMac says somebody's pretty good, they tend to end up being pretty good.

You can't possibly be proposing that we refrain from any preseason talk about the potential of a Gator player, particularly one with his background and back story. That's what men do in the preseason. What would you prefer that we discuss in the sports forum on this site, with Gator football starting in 9 days?

no lol... not saying that. It was a lot of heated debates surrounding the staff's recruiting. I just want to see how it pans out.
I was just trying to find out if you and I are in the same camp. I think our 3 stars are better than a lot of 4 stars cause I think JMac can spot talent.

Haha, yes. Haven't been active with gatorsports since they continually take down/put up/take down the forums. I miss the old days in the mid-late 2000's when it was a more legit source of info. I saw mention of you starting another site so I thought I'd check it out. I'll work on bringing my avatar with me.
Welcome. I was on the other board in 99 or 00 until they took it down one the times
