Thanks for taking my call. First time caller, long time listener. My question is, how long do you expect the doomsday fans to drop the negativity and realize we wait all off-season for football, we only have one loss, and the season isn't over? Would this happen if Florida dominates Vandy and UT loses to Georgia? I'll hang up and listen to your response. Go Gators!

I have a feeling this may be closer than the experts think.

Thanks for the call. Doomsayers and negativity are like taxes and bad drivers...always there regardless. Therefore your question is moot. Next caller is Bubba in Birmingham. Hello Bubba...

doomsdayers and naysayers aren't around b/c of 1 loss... they are around because we lose a lot, especially against the decent teams.

I was in the Yukon wilderness and missed the last 3 games. Was receiving updates from my dad from the UT game via satellite, and needless to say, I'm glad I wasn't home to watch that game. God I hate Tennessee.

The state of Florida football, imo, is not good right now. We are what we are, and it will be a long time before we are elite again. I remember when teams used to fear us. Now, as Dan Mullen pointed out, we have lost more games in the last 6 years than Mississippi State, which just makes me shake my head.

All that being said, there are few things in life I enjoy more than watching the Florida Gators every Saturday afternoon during the fall. It might be another frustrating game, but I will still be cheering on the boys in O & B.

Go Gators!

since our DL depth is now comprised of under-sized defensive ends, there is absolutely no reason for Vandy to throw until they get us stacking the box against a run game we can't stop and then they can just wait for the vaunted DBU to miss a step or blow an assignment so they can pop it right over our heads.

and with an OL that has proven completely incapable of shifting ANYONE or protecting the QB, Vandy just has to play solid defense and wait for Applebees to give them the game with another bone head play or two.

i wanted to see a Florida Gators team that would come out this year and confidently win the games its was supposed to and compete well in games against strong squads.

i did not get that. i got this.

not all of this can be laid on Mac, but he's got two more years to show VAST improvement in all areas or he's gotta go. there have been some minor steps forward in parts of the offense, but i'm already wrapping my head around the fact that UF is not going to be anywhere near contender status before 2019 or 2020 and that is only if Mac gets this thing together. fast. otherwise he's our latter-day Jim Donnan - a guy who was brought in to put out the dumpster fire left by an awful head coach, but who was ultimately not up to the task.

The overall number/percent may fluctuate with time...but there will always be taxes and bad drivers.

36 posts before game day last year vs. Vandy - we still got tomorrow.

Also, last year, the game was in November and we were going after the SEC East Championship.
Funny enough, someone posited that 'what if Treon got knocked out on the first play from scrimmage' and there was a near meltdown on the board as the general consensus was that it would be very bad if that happened. How much worse could the rest of our season have been if that had actually happened. We barely beat Vandy and FAU, then got wasted by FSU, Bama and Meatchicken.

I think we may have a close one again this year. Hopefully I am wrong on that however. QB is upgraded but I am not sure the team as a whole is a lot better.

I'm hopeful we don't repeat last year - it was my first game in the Swamp for many years (my Son's first) and I walked away feeling like we lost, or should have. I predict the D will come out with their hair on fire, getting a score (or setting one up); but our offense will still struggle against Vandy's D. This is the D's game to win to make up for last Saturday.

I went to three games last year and they got progressively worse each time.
1. Ole Miss was a nighttime blast
2. Vandy was a blazing hot midday torture fest.
3. FSU was a frustrating and saddening failure.

we need to stomp Vandy mercilessly, but i am not convinced this team is up to it. hope i'm wrong.

On the right side OL Vandy has to use a soph-soph or soph-fr. Let's see how much
success they have blocking our right side DL.

Things that I think need to change for us to see improvement in all areas:

1. Pick a RB and give them consistent carriers. Imo that's 4 series in a row. Then switch if results suck. I'd start with Thompson or Scarlett and go from there.

2. Play Cleveland and design plays to get the ball in his hands. We need explosive plays on O and this will free up Callaway. Fulford and Powell are not making enough of an impact.

3. Quit running out of the shotgun. Play half the time from under center including runs, passes, and play action. I think this shotgun 95% of the time puts the line half a step slow, especially running g the ball. If we stay shotgun then we must put in some designed QB runs to keep the defense a little honest.

4. Never...Ever play contain again. We were playing a man down blitzing only 3 to 4 each play leaving 1 to cover the qb and it was terrible. The line rarely got pressure and if you give any qb 10 seconds to throw they will fine someone. Go back to the D we were playing most of the year so far.

5. Limit the substitution on the Dline. Just like the RB, I dont think they are getting into the flow of the game enough.

6. Get freaking creative on offense. End arounds, reverses, option, slants crossing routes, etc. We almost never see any of this and it would destroy imo. We have the same 3 passing routes and that is easy to cover once a team recognizes it.

7. Change punt and kick returners. Put in a freshman WR or corner. Don't use a slow RB or Callaway.

I don't know if we see any of this but it would make us more dynamic on the field.
