This was a good win especially playing so poorly (on the offensive end). I hate to beat a dead horse, but once again I found the shot selection to be atrocious. Not only did the color commentator mention it, but Bill Koss mentioned it on the radio about how they don't make MSU work b/c they jack up shots too quickly. Without Eggy and the threat of him rebounding offensively, shot selection becomes even more important. None of these guys seem to understand time and score, or the particular game situation. And Leon is jacking the ball up as soon as it hits his hands now, regardless of floor balance or where his teammates are. It is so frustrating to me b/c this team is really good, and if they had any acumen regarding shot selection they would be a serious threat in March. As an aside, someone mentioned Stone, etc. I know he has to play more b/c of Eggy's absence, but he is a very weak dribbler and an even worse passer. Throws lazy passes all the time. He is too focused on offense and needs to realize he is needed elsewhere right now. Again a road win is a good win, but I know that my hopes that basketball acumen will improve regarding shot selection is not going to happen.

Well I was called away and only got to see some of the first half of this ugly game. I will watch it all tonight. I do have a few thoughts:

1. I think there is something to be said for a team that is able to win a game when both teams score in the 50s and also when both teams score 90 or above. Some teams can only win one style. This team can win in multiple styles.

2. I have to give Jboss a tip of the hat. Without the Egbunu injury, the game he projected which was this game was just the type of game I worried about UF having at one of the two games this week. I thought the Egbunu injury would rally the troops and UF would play better than that. Thankfully UF did step up and win the rebounding battle.

3. I think it is good that Allen is hunting shots. I think someone needs to light a fire under Robinson and get him to hunt shots more too. Leon is reasonably aggressive, but Robinson is still to passive and to accepting of putting up a donut though he did keep his head in the game with 10 rebounds.

4. It is great that both point guards scored and shot decently combining for 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting. It is great they combined for 7 boards. It is not surprising that they only had 3 assists as no one else on the team hit any shots. But 9 turnovers is just unacceptable.

Oh as others have observed the bottom line is UF won. Now how about a sweep this week and getting the SEC regular season over.

I TOLD you it was going to be a tough game on the ROAD. Teams that lose a big time player usually have a tough couple of games learning to play without the player. Ben Howland LOVES to play LOW scoring defensive games and that is what we saw on the road AT MSU. That being said, we WON and we WON doing it another different way just like in the NCAA Tourney playing different teams. We played tough D and got the W. We will have to learn from this and move on to SC at home on Tuesday. I'm not sure we beat them as Thornwell might have a 30 point game inside on us like he has been doing to teams lately. Hopefully we can play tough D again and win it at home. Go Gators!!

SC lost AT Vandy last night. We have to play AT Vandy so that will be a tough game too.

SCe and Vandy are 2 of our 5 losses, and our only losses in conference. Before we look at Vandy, we have to look at our next three games: SCe at home, then Kentucky at Kentucky. Arkansas is next, then Vandy. Need a sweep to close strong. Pediction: all four will join MSU in getting OWNED and DESTROYED!

Edit: Thanks for the verbal throwdown, JBoss - that felt good!

If going by last night (hoping it was a severely aberrant low) we are wary vulnerable to USCe & Vandy.
One of our best DRob = 0-6 FG, 0% (did get 10 rbs)
K.Allen 4-12, 33.3%, 14 pts = leader
Leon 1-6, 16%.
Even Barry 3-7, 43%, 0 FTAs ??
Chiozza 6-8, 75% ++++ 14 pts = leading scorer
K.Hill 4-8, 50% +++ 9 pts.
No one took up slack. Even the coaching backslid ?
Love this team but, they established that love via previous "syle" of players. But if we end playing like this, plus loose 50% of the rest of our games, how much viewership or pride will we be able to have?
Hayes has to step up to be "semi-dominant". He's got more skills than Egbunu.
Hester (if continues to hit at 60+% with mostly 3s) has to be relied on more. Something, anything but last night.
MSU is beatable by most teams in the SEC.

Well having watched the full game, I thought the shots taken were good shots and just did not fall. That happens.

We also had a bad practice, somehow players are very emotional about the situation. It seems we played without him earlier in the year so perhaps some time will be needed to adapt.

Take it I'll take a game or two for them to get back into rhythm.

Our team is in the 'tip your hat' to them bucket at this time... some adversity, game wrinkles, bummer emotions for the work week, traveling... yet close it instead of being closed upon. Keeps momentum for the league and the brackets. There's always a pretty and ugly season scattered behind the dancers in the elimination madness. Go Gators!

Another 'rhetortical' thing: since we beat teams earlier without Eggy, they have improved ... yes, our guys have improved too, but done so depending on Eggy at center. White is going to have to coach them into a "new improved" set-5 team.
But regardless that we took good shots our FG% cannot drop to 38% against upcoming opponents. I want these Gtaors to go far and to do that they've got to refine 'refind' the things they did when Egbunu sat out earlier. DRob an be the weakest link for having a "not-so-hot" game. Pulling for celebrating all our shooters to at least catch up with Chiozza in determination and scoring.??

Only got to watch a very small portion of the game, seems like the hangover from Eggy's injury was worse than I thought it would be. I'm sure they'll be feeling a lot better back in front of the Rowdies on Tuesday. I wonder how many times it's happened where a team has two wins in a row, and in the second win, they scored half as many points as they did in the first win. :lol:

Like I said, I think it is a good sign that this team can win games of any style, fast paced or slow down.

NCAA games are more often like that on Saturday, played close, low scoring poor shooting. Some of it is the added pressure. Som of it is the areas and sight lines are new for both teams.

Doesn't look good for this week at all. Barry is expected to be a game time decision tomorrow. He didn't practice Sunday, is not practicing today, and is questionable for tomorrow. Seems like climbing Everest would be easier than beating a top 25 team without our leading rebounder/big man in Egbunu and our leading scorer in Barry

Edit: Also White said Stone still having balance issues due to viral illness and is "a shell of what he was"

Man do we need some players to step up a lot down the stretch

White did say Barry's ankle sprain is minor and not the same ankle as before. Also said if there is any way he could play that Barry would

I honestly think we can beat USC even without Barry. Hester will get more minutes and will step up IMO.

Some reason USC doesn't really scare me, they are a 1 dimensional team that really struggles to score. Maybe I'm wrong...

Now @UK is a whole diff story. I don't really expect us to win that one regardless. Hope I am wrong here.

I was hoping Hester would have got a lot more minutes over the last two weeks, especially after the games vs Oklahoma and LSU. We need some more offesene and he could provide it of Barry is out. Hopefully Barry gets healthy quickly
