Ok since were talking exceptions rather than rules what about Meyer in 2010? Great coach but when the 2009 talent left he went 8-5 and got clobbered by every decent team we played....kinda like now, huh?

Except he had some of the highest ranked classes for 5-6 years running. Our Rivals class rankings from 06-10 were 2,1,3,11 & 2, respectively, so your argument doesn't hold water, There was a ton of talent in 2010, at least on paper based on preceding class rankings, which is what some people on this board focus almost exclusively on, yet Meyer had a sub par season. I think this illustrates the point that some people, including Deuce, have made in this and other threads...it's nice to land a boat load of 4-5 star players and have top 3 ranked classes, but there is more to a successful program than the star rankings and newspaper clippings the day after NSD. Guys get hurt, leave the program, don't live up to their billing, classes aren't balanced, etc.

I dont know what any of rhis has to do with Phil Steele's rankings of most returning starters.

However, IM ABSOLUTELY SURE Ole Butterteeth and "great coaching" shouldnt be in the same paragraph.

You're correct on both points. The thread has steered off the original topic and Mac hasn't shown us nearly enough to this point. The Michigan game is critical and while they have lost a lot of starters, I'm sure they have plenty of guys waiting n the wings who have gotten valuable PT in their blowouts the past few years, something our guys haven't gotten due to not blowing out teams we should have easily destroyed. We need to start the season off on a high note with a W against them. Mac & Co. need to step up in a big way. Can he do it is the question.

What do you mean? My comments were primarily directed toward the Georgia Southern game. I thought Chump did a terrible job of coaching. There's no way the Gators should have lost to a second-level team that never threw a pass - in the Swamp! You call that an excuse on my part?

Well I think they did throw a few passes, they just didn't complete any. Anyways your right, Chump coached terrible.

Yep they threw 3 incompletions but Muschamp said the offense they ran negates the talent advantage you have on defense or something like that. :(

Still waiting on that good defense. We had great defensive talent, and a bend but dont' break side hat defense. Collins should have been fired after the first season.

Except he didnt. Bear Bryant didnt win shyt at Kintucky.

The thread is about returning starters. In any event, the fact that you can find two big upsets in the last year proves that the rule is the rule. However, I know logic isnt your thing.

1946 Kentucky 7–3
1947 Kentucky 8–3
1948 Kentucky 5–3–2
1949 Kentucky 9–3 #11 AP
1950 Kentucky 11–1 #7 AP, SEC Champions
1951 Kentucky 8–4 #15 AP
1952 Kentucky 5–4–2 #20 AP
1953 Kentucky 7–2–1 #16 AP
Total 60–23–6

The 1950 Kentucky Wildcats football team finished with a school best 11-1 record and concluded the season with a victory over Bud Wilkinson's #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl. The final AP poll was released before bowl games in that era, so Kentucky ended the regular season ranked #7. But several other polls and the Sagarin Ratings System declared Bryant's 1950 Wildcats to be the national champions.

Under Bryant, Kentucky made its first bowl appearance (1947) and won its first Southeastern Conference title (1950).

LOL. Oklahoma, Texas, ND, Meatchicken, and Alabama won a national championship every year in the 1950s. Retroactive Sagarin championship, huh? I guess we won three in the 80s then.

You do seem pretty impressed, consistently, by 3 and 4 loss seasons, I will give you that.

That makes little or no sense whatsoever.....The most talented teams have always won the most....
70's OU, USC, Mich. & OSU.....
80'S OU, Miami, Nebraska
90's Miami, Nebraska, FSU &UF...
2000'S USC & UF
2010-now Bama
If you don't believe those were the most talented teams in those time frames then check how many players were drafted from each of them in those time periods...Talent breeds championships.

Where's Bert's teams on that list?
