First of all, we're Gators, so we're going to be biased, but there are some smart- and objective-minded people here who can think for themselves. So let's have some fun and see where UF and the 04s rank among the all-time best. Hey, maybe both of our teams don't belong in the discussion, but let's pretend and let the chips fall.

We're up against Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton's remarkable UCLA teams, the undefeated Indiana team of 1976 and Pitino's Kentucky juggernaut of 1996, among others.

As always, I welcome dissent. You can never make these polls perfect.

07 Gators.

Not only due to talent but the way they were able to play so well together. The chemistry was off the charts. We had it all--HOF coach, experience, role players, big men, guards, 3 PT specialists etc etc.

Edit: oh, and we curb stomped Westbrook/Love and Conley/Oden.

Edit 2: would have hard time voting for a team from 2-3 decades ago due to age and also due to the lack of parity back in the day.

Edit 3: yes, I am biased. Very.

Back in the day, March Madness was a contest for second place. John Wooden's UCLA teams were virtually unbeatable and Lew Alcindor's teams matchless.

Walton was the best college center I ever saw. His game was complete. Alcindor seemed to be unstoppable. Walton could have defensed him when no other player could. Our team was complete. Bigs shooters passing pg. Too bad. We beat Knights team cause our inside game was better. Bobby dies of a heart attack in the championship game when we beat him.

Lake Gator, did you watch the Houston-UCLA Game of the Century in 1968? It was like an Ali fight. Hayes got the better of Alcindor.

The unpredictable March Madness of today makes for far better theater.

Mention should be made of the 1965-66 Texas Western Miners team. This team went 21 - 0 before losing on the road to the University of Seattle 74 -72 in the final regular season game. They then won 5 straight NCAA tournament games beating Number 1 Kentucky in the final 72 - 65.

From Wikipedia:

"The 1965–66 Texas Western Miners basketball team represented Texas Western College, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and was coached by Hall of Fame coach Don Haskins. The team made history by winning the 1966 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament in 1966, becoming the first team with an all-black starting lineup to win an NCAA basketball national championship, a feat that was not considered likely by many. The Miners defeated Kentucky (a team that was all white until 1969) 72-65 in the historic championship game, played at Cole Field House in College Park, Maryland on March 19, 1966.

The team was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007 [1] and inspired the book and film Glory Road."

07 Gators.

Too young to know the rest. Still, back-to-back in this golden age of one and done, etc is remarkable when EVERYONE is giving you their best. They beat out solid NBA all-stars. And, they won 18-straight tourney games between 06 and 07 (SEC and NCAA). I'd vote for both teams if I could, but 07 was just a little better with the older group.

And Go Gators.

Did you just say defensed?

I'm giving you a dislike just for that. You're welcome.

Lewis had a scratched eye and migraine. HE was not healthy and in NCAA tourney the beat the dogsh#t outa Houston. He got his revenge. Jabbar said he could barely see in that game.

The 2001 duke team should be on the ballot. That squad was loaded with NBA players.

Were they ever. A starting five that included Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins.

UNLV's: Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony.

Kentucky's: They were so deep, they went with a six-man rotation of Tony Delk, Antoine Walker, Derek Anderson, Walter McCarty, Ron Mercer and Mark Pope. That was a helluva team.

That UNLV team without a doubt is the most up-tempo team I've ever seen play.

The Kentucky team was sick. Delkwas a beast at point and Anderson was a three-point assassin. I seriously thought Ron Mercer was going to be a monster in the NBA. Antoine Walker had a nice career but he should've been so much more.

But I think the team would been annihilated by the 2007 gators. I think Mercer and Brewer would have been a wash. Delk and Green would've also been a wash. And then Walker and Horford would have been a battle. Who would they have to go against Noah? I guess a slight edge to Anderson over Humphries. But I think Humphries was even better from the arc.

And I don't know how they would've dealt with our size in the paint with Noah, Horford, Speights, and Richards.
