Are you high or just dumb? Mac was not 40th a year before signing day. He was 40th, 35th actually, a month before singing day. There is no excuse for a UF coach to EVER be that low in the recruiting rankings.

And yet he finished top 10

Why would it matter where he was a month out (or a year out as of right now). It's all about where you finish. That's like worrying about a preseason ranking at the end of the year el oh el.

You bet your ass he has lowered expectations. He has lowered very standard with our football program. I don't even follow recruiting and that Shyte is UNACCEPTABLE.

:lies:

What about facilities :heehee:

Since when is a top 10 finish at UF thought of as great? Top 10 should just happen with little effort. Top 5 is great in my opinion.

So some of the negators say UF can't recruit itself because we aren't keeping up with the Jones', and other negators are saying we should be able to recruit no matter what.
Sounds to me like:

:haters:

There's something to shake your head at. :disgust:

Does that mean everyone else here that went after Foley for not speilnding enough were just making excuses too?
I do not know what other posters think. I say Fooley was cheap because he needed a home run hire after he finally fired MooseDump. Instead he hired a "diamond in the rough " candidate that most recruits in Florida did not know.

I am glad we are updating facilities but I think coordinators and position coaches are the most important part of recruiting. Do the recruits think their coaches will put them in The League. Currently, in my opinion we have below average position coaches and coordinators .

As long as Miami has Richt I'm not too worried.
Yeah him getting commits from a lot of the top players down south shouldn't worry you, we're recruiting for so well outside of SF I'm not worried either. Now I'm not worried he will win any championships while there but the man can recruit his butt off and while he was at UGA he didn't take a lot of players from down south because he was mostly recruiting Ga but now he's in FL and is killing it in recruiting in our own state. If that don't worry you then you don't follow recruiting

25th in his 1st class which consisted of just a couple of weeks of real recruiting time.
14th in class 2.
9th in class three.

Yup, we've really lowered expectations by not being incessantly pissed off
:lol2:

Looks like he's gotten better each year....

And he's started better this year than last year... It's not the pace I want it at of course... But in that regard he has showed steady improvement... :dunno:

I never said it was great. This goes back to what I was saying, most aren't celebrating a top 10 finish and crowning Mac as a great recruiter. We just think it's a step in the right direction, however he still has a lot left to prove.

I'll believe that Richt is killing it when ink meets paper. Until then, I'll be skeptical that he can keep this class.

Should Richt wall off South Fl he'll build a powerhouse. I always thought he was a decent coach and recruiter. They should compete for ten wins every year just on talent alone.

There is proof out there that he can recruit it's not like this is the 1st time he's ever put a good class together. I get what your saying until the ink dries the kids are not 100% but it's very impressive what's he's done so far for the 2018 class.

I agree it's impressive for now, just don't buy that he locks this kids up especially if (when) they struggle this year.

It's really sad to hear Gators fans talk about how the place should recruit itself. Texas and Notre Dame fans are delusional in this way. Indiana basketball fans are the same way.

The biggest single factor in recruiting is what school and coach will give the best chance of winning championships. When Mac arrived in 2015 every high school recruit had watched the Muschamp version of Florida since they were 13 years old. Their only memories of Florida was receivers blocking each other, losing to Georgia Southern and a coach that was out of control and hated offense. The Gators weren't just bad, they were a national laughingstock. No offensive player in their right mind even considered Florida as a backup plan.

The name Florida wasn't a selling point to offensive players. It was the exact opposite.

In the 80's Pell had to pay players to come to Florida. In the 90's Spurrier got the recruits to come without a lot of effort because they knew he could win championships. In the 00's the recruits were lining up because Urban walked into a loaded roster and produced right off the bat. Then Muschamp burned the place to the ground.

Those of us who are a bit older remember championship seasons, but to high school kids that's ancient history. Some of these recruits don't know who Spurrier is and were 8 years old in 2008. They have never seen the Gators dominating the grid iron. To them Florida winning a national championship is kind of like the Loch Ness Monster. They've heard people talk about seeing it, but it's really hard to believe.

Telling a recruit that the Gators won a national championship in 1996 is the same as telling them that Army won a national championship in 1914. They're not impressed by dusty trophies from way back then.

Florida will recruit itself again when the recruits can see with their own eyes that championships are possible at Florida. The good news is that Florida currently has the #1 ranked class in the country for 2019. The recruits are starting to see the potential again.
