Some info from The Bowl. Glad to see there's some DT's mentioned:

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-gators-coaches-recruiting-trail-evaluation-period

UF coaches hit the road
The evaluation period began this week and Florida coaches visited several of their top targets Tuesday.

Offensive line coach Brad Davis and wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon II saw in-state offensive tackles William Barnes (Apopka, Fla.) and John Campbell (Orlando, Fla.). Both prospects visited UF in the spring and list the Gators among their top teams.

Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier checked in on a pair of Florida commits — 3-star receiver commit Jalynn Williams (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and 2019 defensive lineman Jaquaze Sorrels (Largo, Fla.) — as well as 4-star safety Amari Burney from Clearwater, Fla. Burney plans to choose between Florida and Ohio State on June 1.

Linebackers coach Tim Skipper and running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider teamed up to see 3-star linebacker David Reese (Fort Pierce, Fla.), while defensive line coach Chris Rumph paid visits to 4-star WR Marquez Ezzard (Stockbridge, Ga.), 3-star LB Michael Harris (Tucker, Ga.) and 3-star DT Darnell Jefferies (Covington, Ga.).

Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon was in Tennessee visiting 4-star defensive tackle Brant Lawless (Nashville) and 3-star defensive end Jordan Davis, an Alabama commit from Memphis.

Secondary coach Corey Bell paid a visit to Notre Dame WR commit Kevin Austin (Pompano Beach, Fla.) while assistant Greg Nord traveled to Naples, Fla., for 3-star tight end George Takacs.

4-star DT visits Gators
Florida extended an offer in March to Alim McNeill, a 4-star defensive tackle from Raleigh, N.C. In return, McNeill made his way to the Sunshine State during his spring break to check out the Gators last week.

“Everything was nice,” McNeill told SEC Country. “It was my first time visiting. I met all the coaches and we toured the facilities and academic center. It was nice down there.”

McNeill also took a trip to FSU while in Florida. The 6-foot-2, 272-pound lineman holds offers from more than two dozen schools, including Michigan, South Carolina and Tennessee.

McNeill, who is ranked the nation’s No. 21 prospect at this position in the 247Sports Composite, plans to make his decision in December.

Would love to get this kid for many reasons: he's a 5-star.....but he's from Jacksonville and we've done a sh*t job recruiting Jacksonville since McElwain has been at UF. That needs to change.

Florida recruiting 5-star DB Tyreke Johnson for cornerback, not safety

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/...r-db-tyreke-johnson-for-cornerback-not-safety

Preferred position
Safety is the biggest position of need for Florida in the 2018 recruiting cycle, but Tyreke Johnson won’t be a prospect to fill that void.

Johnson is ranked the nation’s No. 2 safety in the 247Sports Composite, but made it clear to SEC Country that he’s mislabeled by recruiting services.

“I’m not a safety. That’s the quickest way to piss me off,” said Johnson, who added that Florida is recruiting him as a cornerback.

ESPN and Scout have Johnson rated at corner, but Rivals and 247Sports list him as a safety. He has a 5-star rating from every site except ESPN.

“The reason why they call me a safety is because I’m big,” Johnson said. “But if you look at my film, it’s straight corner. I have the great hips to play it, I have the lateral movement, I have the speed. I have all the corner attributes.

“It’s just that I’m big and they’re not used to seeing big corners. They’re scared to call me a corner because they don’t want to be wrong, but look at Patrick Peterson. I’m in that category.”

At 6-foot-1, 191 pounds, Johnson has the same height and weight as Peterson did in high school. Peterson is a former LSU cornerback who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Path to the NFL
Like LSU, the Gators have a track record of sending defensive backs to the league. Later this month, three Florida DB’s will join NFL teams for the second straight year.

That has sparked Johnson’s interest.

“Just continuing to show me that they’re breeding DB’s,” Johnson said. “It’s not all about wins and losses. It’s about how they breed your position and are they putting guys in the NFL.

“I’m curious to see how they’re going to replace the guys that left. They got Chauncey (Gardner) up to date and he’s looking great, like he’s going to be a first-round corner.”

UF signed five players at the position in the Class of 2017 to account for the departures of Teez Tabor and Quincy Wilson. But Johnson, who plays for Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., is not concerned about Florida’s numbers.

“At Trinity, we have top corners every year,” said Johnson, alluding to former 5-star recruits Kevin Toliver II (LSU) and Shaun Wade (Ohio State). “Being a competitor is what sets you apart from the next man.”

“Competing is something we live for. At Trinity we compete every day. So just because they signed five corners, doesn’t mean that all five will play because I plan on coming here and taking something.”

Johnson attended the Orange & Blue Debut and paid close attention to the game, wanting to get a feel for new defensive coordinator Randy Shannon and new secondary coach Corey Bell. The starters held the second-team offense scoreless.

“I love what I saw from the defense,” Johnson said. “They played a lot of press man … seems like they want the long corners inside the dude’s face to challenge the receivers at the line. That’s something very exciting.”

Bell is pursuing Johnson along with linebackers coach Tim Skipper, his area recruiter. Bell coached one of Johnson’s former high school teammates.

“I like him. He’s a real dude,” Johnson said of Bell. “He coached one of my close friends, Raekwon Williams, down there at FAU. He tells me he’s a very good coach.

“Coach Bell tells me I can come here and leave a legacy in my home state. You don’t have to go far (away from home) to go to the league.”

These are assessments on Alabama HS kids (I cut Asa Martin, since he's been a UF lean for a while) from SEC Country:

4-star RB Asa Martin, Austin

Auburn RB target Asa Martin (Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country)

Kirschner: Florida still leads for the state of Alabama’s best running back, but after a recent trip to Auburn, the Tigers have closed the gap on the Gators. Martin admits, when he was last in Gainesville, commitment was on his mind. He has a very close relationship with Florida running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider. Martin is planning to visit Texas who recently offered. He says the Longhorns, depending on the visit, could make things interesting. Outside of those three schools, there is a wide gap between the rest.

Wolk: The No. 1 running back in the state of Alabama isn’t guaranteed to stay in-state, but Auburn is going to make it hard. On his Florida visit last month, Martin said he was as close to committing as he’d ever been. The Gators jumped out to the No. 1 spot, and while that hasn’t changed, Martin said Auburn has closed the gap almost entirely. His A-Day visit made him feel like Auburn might be the best place for him. Martin said Chip Lindsey, Gus Malzahn and Tim Horton have made a serious effort to build a relationship with his mother, which is something that had Florida holding a major edge over the rest of his suitors. Right now, it looks like it’ll be an Auburn-Florida battle until the end, which will likely come just before the start of Martin’s senior season. There are a few programs — Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska — that could make Martin re-evalutate once he’s able to take visits to those places.

Thankfully, Nord is LOCKING down South Georgia recruiting!

The first article says Nord is visiting TE Takacs in Naples. WTF? In the recruiting areas thread is says Nord has the Panhandle area, nowhere near Naples.

Also, can some please explain to me why Nord is still on this staff?

I would love to hear this as well. I know others have a ton of reasons for not liking Mac. For me, not getting rid of Nord was the biggest disappointment of the offseason

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/...-a-4-star-rb-gators-still-lead-for-asa-martin

Despite Florida landing a 4-star RB, Gators still lead for Asa Martin

Not deterred
Asa Martin is one of the top targets for Florida for the Class of 2018. The Gators want to sign a pair of running backs in this cycle, and they got one on board last week with the commitment of 4-star prospect Iverson Clement from Mount Holly, N.J.

Martin, a 4-star back from Decatur, Ala., named UF his leader after visiting the school in March. Clement’s pledge has not changed that despite Martin’s recent trip to Auburn.

“The gap is a little closer now, but nothing has changed with the order,” said Martin, who still has Florida ahead of the in-state Tigers.

UF running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, Martin’s primary recruiter, gave him a heads up about Clement before he announced his decision. Martin was not bothered by the move.

“No, not really,” Martin said. “Auburn has a running back commit as well. They’re both like the same now. Coach Seider told me before that the other guy was going to commit, so that was fine. … Wherever I go, I’m going to have to compete anyways. That’s not a problem with me. The best players are going to play.”

Martin said Auburn and Florida are recruiting him the hardest, but Texas has entered the mix after offering Monday. He plans to visit all three schools in the fall, but wants to decide before his senior season.

The 6-foot, 193-pound explained why the Gators have maintained their edge in his recruitment.

“It’s my relationship with coach Seider and the way he’s been putting running backs in the league,” Martin said. “If he can do that at Florida, with their different offense, (the system) won’t be a problem at all.

“And just the vibe. It feels like home around there. Everybody’s friendly and real nice. I got to hang out with some of the players. I wouldn’t say I was close to committing, but I was thinking a little bit.”

More visits
After a busy day on the recruiting trail Tuesday, Florida coaches were back on the road again Wednesday.

Seider went to see Martin as well as Coynis Miller, a 4-star defensive tackle from Birmingham, Ala.

Offensive line coach Brad Davis and defensive line coach Chris Rumph visited Richard Gouraige and Nicholas Petit-Frere, 4-star offensive tackles from Tampa, Fla. Gouraige named Florida his leader after attending the Orange & Blue Debut.

Rumph also visited 4-star defensive end Malcolm Lamar (Seffner, Fla.), while wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon II checked in on his top target, 4-star WR Jacob Copeland (Pensacola, Fla.). Auburn and Florida are the top schools for Copeland.

Defensive cooridnator Randy Shannon traveled to Arp, Texas, to evaluate 4-star safety DeMarvion Overshown, while linebackers coach Tim Skipper visited Alabama running back commit Dameon Pierce (Bainbridge, Ga.) and 4-star linebackers J.J. Peterson (Moultrie, Ga.), Otis Reese (Leesburg, Ga.) and Quay Walker (Cordele, Ga.).

Walker named Florida in his top 5 on Wednesday night.

UF offers Top247 DE
Gators extend offer to Peach State edge rusher.

Marietta (Ga.) weak-side defensive Azeez Ojulari landed an offer from the Florida Gators on Monday.

"I'm very excited about the offer Florida," Ojulari told 247Sports. "It was one of the schools I grew up watching, really liked how Dante Fowler played at UF."

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect already has tenders Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and others after seeing his stock rise this offseason.

247Sports is higher on Ojulari than the rest of the industry, and currently ranks him as the nation's No. 170 overall prospect in the 2018 class.

Another Ohio prospect, 3-star defensive tackle Tyler Bentley, received an offer from the Gators on Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound prospect holds more than 20 offers, including Alabama, LSU and Tennessee.

Florida target expects Gators to reach national title game in near future

High expectations
UF is off to a fast start in the 2019 recruiting cycle with the nation’s No. 1 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

One of Florida’s top targets for 2019 is Derick Hunter, a 4-star defensive end from Fort Myers, Fla. Hunter included the Gators in his top 5 last week, along with Florida State, Miami, Iowa State and Oregon.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound prospect has made multiple visits to Florida and thinks highly of UF coach Jim McElwain.

“I can see Florida playing in the national championship next season,” Hunter said unprompted. “With Coach Mac in the building, I know Florida is in the right hands. I can see things changing with this program. I want to go somewhere I’m going to win, and I know if you go to Florida you’re going to win.”

The Gators are trying to win Hunter’s commitment by doing something no other program has to this point.

“Florida is the only school recruiting me for both sides,” said Hunter, whose primary recruiter is offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. “He talks about playing both sides of the ball, tight end and defensive line.

“It really doesn’t matter to me (position wise). I just want to play ball. That’s it. Whatever helps my team win.”

That being said, Hunter is impressed with Florida’s defense. He liked the unit’s aggressiveness and effort in the Orange & Blue Debut.

“It was perfect. I loved the atmosphere and everything. It just feels like I’m home,” Hunter said of his spring game trip.

“The defense stands out for sure. On the defensive line, I can tell the pass rush is way better than what it used to be.”

247Sports ranks Hunter as the nation’s No. 13 defensive end and No. 166 overall prospect in the 2019 class.

Despite a handful of favorites, Hunter admits that Florida and Miami are leading the pack. He said a decision could happen “pretty quick” and plans to enroll early at the school of his choice.

McElwain is confident it will be UF.

“He told me I’m going to be a Gator,” Hunter said.

Some recruiting notes:
  • Rick Sandidage, 4-star defensive tackle from Concord, N.C., named the Gators in his top 11 on Monday along with Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-5, 273-pound prospect visited Florida on April 22.
  • UF has offered class of 2019 DE Steven Faucheux. 6'4 prospect out of Ohio.
  • Corione Harris, a 4-star cornerback from New Orleans, tweeted Monday that he’s still considering Florida despite his commitment to Kansas.
  • Georgia landed a commitment Monday for 3-star cornerback Chris Smith. The Atlanta prospect included UF among his 6 finalists a couple weeks ago, but has long been considered a lean to the in-state Bulldogs.
  • UF offered 4-star Kamryn Babb, a 6'1 190 WR out of Missouri. He's considered an Ohio State lean.
  • Florida extended offers Monday to 2019 offensive guard Travis Robinson (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and 2020 offensive tackle Jake Wray (Franklin, Tenn.). Robinson’s offer was the first of his recruitment, while Wray holds more than a dozen as a high school freshman.

Thanks for posting this stuff BMF and please don't take this as a knock on you, but JFC those notes are rather pitiful for a once elite program.

  • Some kid gives us the high honor of being on his list of 11. Why not just add Notre Dame and make it an even dozen?
  • We offered some kid who is kinda' tall and will go to OSU if he's any good in 2019.
  • We are being considered by some kid who is already committed to Kansas.....KANSAS!
  • We're excited that we are one of 6 names some 3* Georgia lean still has listed on his Facebook page.
  • We offered another guy who's going to OSU.
  • We offered another couple of guys for a couple years from now. One who wasn't offered by anybody and another that we are in a sweepstakes for with a dozen (and counting) other teams.
