I can't believe I agree with chferg.
I would be thrilled if our AD put these principles into use.
1. After the first contract, give one year's salary for early termination.
2. Always include a buyout to be paid if the coach voluntarily leaves UF and resumes coaching at another D1 football program prior to the end of his last contract (covers immediate poaches & Meyer-style one-year-off for health and family reasons).
3. Give base contract raises and extensions slowly outside of SEC or national championships.
4. Increase performance bonuses instead of large raises.
As for this time, I'm not too upset about anything except the large buyout for firing him. I am not expecting the worst, but I see no reason to guarantee such large sums of money. Tie it to performance. We all know the way this works - meet expectations and stay, don't and you're gone.
The extension is only one year and that only covers 5 more years (the longest a player might expect to be on campus, including redshirt).
The raise was less than 5%.
I like the bonus increases.
