I'd heard on here, may even have been from you though I'm not sure, that Gainesville ran FiveStar out of town. It was replaced by a cheaper chain, I believe called 3-Star. Happened, what, about December 2014?

Details on Justin Fields‘ trip
The nation’s No. 1 dual-threat passer met with two quarterbacks during his visit to Florida this week.

One is experiencing his first month at UF. The other has been a Gator for more than 50 years.

Justin Fields, the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback, got a dose of Florida’s past and present on Wednesday. SEC Country has learned of a few details from his two-trip to Gainesville.

Fields arrived on Tuesday evening and hung out with the incoming freshmen and their parents. He ate pizza in the press box with the new players and some staff members, who made it a point to showcase their family atmosphere and what the Gators can offer outside of football.

The 5-star passer ate breakfast the following morning with former Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire, who officially became a Gator on Tuesday when he enrolled as a graduate transfer. They spent three days together in early June at the Elite 11 and Fields looked forward to reconnecting with Zaire this week.

Fields also had the opportunity to sit down with Florida ambassador Steve Spurrier, a legendary player (1963-66) and coach (1990-2001) for the Gators. They met in Spurrier’s office and Fields enjoyed talking to the larger-than-life personality, providing a nice touch for the Gators on the trip.

UF coach Jim McElwain, his assistants and his recruiting staffers feel confident about the visit they put together for Fields. He received the red-carpet treatment Tuesday night, spent time with Zaire and Spurrier on Wednesday and left Florida’s campus with a better feel for the program.

Love me some spurdog. I hope it went well. The UGA chatter is real from what I read elsewhere.

Hope he picks the good guys. We need him.

Could you imagine if Ugly landed three straight 5 star QBs, while our pumpers keep saying that you can't build relationships for at least 4 years?

Pumper will always pump it will never change no matter how bad things get. You've got some fans that are pure supporters till the very end they "own and destroy" to a point that they really believe the stupid things that come out of their mouths on here. Then you have what I consider myself and a few others realist who sees the writing on the wall already, there are a few that can see the writing and I understand the few that see it but are not ready to admit to seeing it but I laugh at the ones who still whole heartily believe in Mac 100%. I'm at about .05% believe right now but I started at 40% so it didn't take much to get me to where I'm at now. He should have never of been thought of as the coach of UF with a 22-16 HC record but here we are for a few more years because getting embarrassed by legit teams gets you an extra year and a raise. But like I said pumpers will pump no matter what happens

I've also heard the UGA chatter is real... apparently he grew up a UGA fan. HIs sister goes there and his Mom really likes it, but it just doesn't make sense from a playing time standpoint. He is going to sit for 3 years at UGA or if he beats out Fromm... they Fromm transfers... there is no way either one of those guys is OK sitting behind the other for a long time.

It's like people don't see what's going on in the 2019 class. Yes they still have to sign, but everyone complained that Mac didn't get on kids quick enough, but when he starts filling out a class like 2019's, it's not good enough either.

If Fields jumps on board, and it's a big if, the 2018 will come together. There are several quality OLinemen who like UF, that a Fields commit could likely seal up. To the dumpers point, we have yet to pick up a big time QB commit, and until we do, we're sunk.

The 2019 class is the class that we have been waiting for. However the 2018 class has plain sucked so far. We cannot have a lost class. There's plenty of time to still close on this one and he has got to figure out how to do it.

IF we get Fields, I have no doubt we will fill out a very solid 2018 class (top 5)

2019 Class Myth - it's some amazing class - we have 1 guy in the top 150. That number one ranking is based on NUMBERS alone and not much else. Five are ranked 200 or higher or not ranked at all.

If it is still ranked number one next summer - we can start getting excited.

Bring us Fields please.

I read somewhere that it sounded like he expected to redshirt that first year. I mean Franks could blow the hell up here and it is a similar situation. Lots of unknowns. Stidham could blow up too and go draft. If he was smart he would wait till Dec and sign to find out what happens at each school. Injuries and unexpected play could enter the equation. A great opportunity could change into a bad one quick and vice versa.

Actually I can start getting excited when I want to.

We have some really good talent possibly coming in in 2019. The ratings of these kids will be completely different by next winter. We have a lot of talent so far.

Again, 2018. Not so much.

Absolutely. You get excited whenever you want. But who says it is a talented group? You're smart enough to see the actual player rankings, right? Outside of McRae, who on the group would be considered top end talent?

Edit: And I don't want you to think I am poo-poo'ing the class. It's very early but you have to remember there are 200-300+ kids in front of those 6/7 prospects. They could move up or down accordingly. A lot can happen in 2 years. If those kids were mostly in top 150 I would be totally agreeing with you. The chances that they all move into the top 150 are pretty slim. Can it happen? Sure and I'll be the first to call him the Diamond whisperer. Until that day though...it's a c;lass rank based solely on its total number not talent.

I am not a pumper, but I am sunshiney when I "talk" about my Gators. I don't know behind the scenes stuff, but I know Mac did not get his raise & extension as reward for getting blasted by FSU and Bama. I recognize Mac's blind loyalty in tolerating Nutsmired's 100+ rankish offense. Mac could not have hired him for past OC performances; Mac folded under the pressure of quickly putting together a staff & he'd worked well (got an NC) with Nutsmired before. That does show Mac is not yet a worthy CEO. Mac got rewarded because he was evaluated by the SEC HCs to be COY and he did it (won the East) his first 2 years straight.

All HCs and ADs know it should take more than 2 years to come close to what Mac actually got out of his first 2 years. By that general knowledge of "those in the business" Mac might be, just in conversations, on a "hire-away target list" for other programs.?? (that's realistic)

I would certainly like to believe that UF should be able to hire an HC with a better W-L record, but still Mac was relatively new to the CSU area. Yes Mac is a slow learner. Can't fire your new HC in just 2 years when his peer HCs note him for excellence. We could not get any rational HC hire with that cutthroat hiring practice.

Sooo, for at least 2-3 more years we're stuck with Mac -- atop our SEC division. :chickenlittle:

Top talent?

I'd say Goolsby, McRae, and Coker.

Dunmore and Ladson on their heels.

T, nobody said 2019 was a talented group. The point is that we are early, for once, on commits. That's all it means.

J, do you think the list in the 2018 recruiting stickie is accurate? Any adjustments you'd make at this time? Having nothing else to go on it's the kids committed or leaning per 247. Based on the # of 4 and 5 stars it should put us around 6th.

I think so. Historically Friday Night Lights was a huge showcase for us and we got a ton of elite talent leans or commits. It's been so difficult to get actual real information regarding our recruits in the last 6 or 7 years. The main reason (I think) is because we've been in a wait an see mode with the program. It's hard to get momentum when your program is in a constant state of flux.

It may end up a top 5 class for all I know. It's just some people see number one and think wow...Mac must be doing great. He got 5-6 kids ranked 200 or higher to commit early. McRae could be special. He's always been decent at getting those mid-level kids. It's those kids that are top 5 at their position that IMHO he's struggled to get to Gainesville. You can't mistake effort for results.

So do you think the Mac extension will help in that regard?
