Michigan football team wowed by Fab Five visitors

Ann Arbor — Juwan Howard and Jimmy King, members of Michigan’s “Fab Five” basketball team, shared with the Wolverines football team a theme coach Jim Harbaugh frequently pushes.

Howard and King met with the team after practice Wednesday. Speight said they told the players “to be comfortable being uncomfortable.”

“That’s a motto that Coach Harbaugh definitely lives by and coaches by and it’s been working for us,” Speight said.

Sophomore linebacker Devin Bush said Howard and King told the players to “be a brotherhood.”

“All the hard work you’re putting in now and all the time and hours you’ve already spent together lasts a lifetime,” Bush said. “You’ll always have these guys.”

Bush wasn’t around to experience the Fab Five, but he was more than aware of them.

“If you want to come here, I feel like you should know them,” he said, smiling.

Speight was stunned when Howard asked to take a photo with him.

“It was really cool,” Speight said. “That’s what blew me away. We grew up watching those guys and they’re legends around here, and Juwan came up to me and was like, ‘Can I get a picture with you? My son’s going to love this.' I said, ‘Yeah absolutely,’ but I didn’t want to act too shocked. That’s the Fab Five, you know. That was a cool moment.”

I read an article earlier about Harbaugh and this being his 3rd season.... He basically has the same record as Hoke did (at this point), but Hoke won a BCS bowl game and beat Ohio State (in the first two years). Basically, the article said - while he's far, far from the 'hot seat' - it's time for him to win something.

I think he's a solid coach, but at this point he's one gimmick after another: the khaki pants, the out of state "camps", twitter, traveling to Europe, etc. But for what they're paying him ($7 million ??) he needs to win something or his schtick will get tired quick.

Hilarious stuff. Did the article mention that OSU was entrenched in the scandal and Luke Fickell was head coach? OSU went 6-7 in 2011. Meyer came the next year and was dealing with the fallout. He'll win a National Championship there. He's their Spurrier.

Your article is garbage.

Edit: Most of your articles are very informative btw and you are an awesome contributor to the site. So...thanks.

So the not so fab part of the fab 5.

Howard was a huge get back then. I still have the original Street & Smith's from that year. King was a huge get from Texas as well.

IDK...you said you read an article LOL. I wasn't trying to be harsh. You're a damn great poster. I just thought comparing Hoke to Harbaugh was pretty hysterical and whacked out.

I'll try to find the article. It wasn't really comparing the two coaches, it was basically saying that Harbaugh has done a great job of getting the program prominent again....he's recruiting well......things are looking good....but he's finished 3rd in his Division both years and hasn't really won anything (Division, B10, or even a BCS bowl game - which is something that Hoke did in his 2nd year, win a BCS bowl).

Understood. OSU is 100 times better now then back then though. Hell...the conference is way better overall.

They vacated virtually everything in 1992-1993. Even before, they finished 2nd in the Big Ten standings that year, and 3rd the year before that.

The Fab Five are the most overrated thugs in the history of college hoops. All mouth, little talent, no academics, and didn't win ****.

Out of curiosity, what makes them thugs? Did they commit crimes?
