Honestly I haven't been to a home game since 2009 when Tebow was the QB. The product on the field hasn't been worth traveling from the Orlando area 2 hours to Gainesville. I've been to at least a few basketball games every year though! Go Gators!!

Wake up in rolling teepee, fart, scratch, roll out of the teepee, make a bacon and cheese omelette and a Bloody Mary, set up tailgate, make another cocktail, turn on the tv outside of teepee, watch Gameday, go take a dump, shower, change, make another cocktail, watch early game, make another cocktail, walk to game, yell, lose voice, see a woman spray puke like a rainbird sprinkler all over the 2 rows in front of her, laugh, leave stadium, walk to teepee, make a cocktail, party with friends, slur speech, make another cocktail, pass out.

No time in that schedule to rub one out I guess.

Spent a good deal of my young life @ the Orange Bowl at games and now in my mature years, love my big screen TV, nearby bathroom and refrigerator.

I don't know how far back you go Daytona, but I remember when the Canes played their home games on Friday nights. I think some of the big high schools played on Thursday nights - - Miami High, Coral Gables, Miami Edison. I remember listening on the radio to players like Eddie Johns and George Mira Miami quarterbacks.

A decade of eating Humble Pie has been a real bummer from a party planning standpoint. The days of raining bombs and misdirecting people out of their cleats seem like a dream now... :therethere:

From 1980-2005 it was wake up to the paper and then start taking phone calls for my take on the game...........people knew I KNEW. Home games we headed to Red Bones house. Two blocks due north of the stadium. Blues band in the front yard playing. Same old people parking there forever. Same seat in the section just above the small score board in the south east corner (second level) ..........btw
two weeks from RIGHT Now we are done with all the what iff shE#T and getting ready for the game....................

Weak sauce. That drive from Orlando is cake.

For the last 2 years I have been coaching my son's YMCA football team (5-3, 6-2) and all games were played on Saturday mornings. It really set the mood.
This year the games are on weekdays so that will free my Saturday mornings for firing up the green egg with some ribs/brisket/butts on the bill of fare. No visitors, no phone calls, just me and the fam screaming for the Orange and Blue, and for whoever LSU is playing.

Game day prep is very important. Depending upon the time of the "big game", food prep is important, turn off telephone except during halftime when I talk with friends about the state of the game during the first half and projections for the 2nd half, no small children permitted, no visitors except those who love and understand football and know when to talk and when to shut up. Spent a good deal of my young life @ the Orange Bowl at games and now in my mature years, love my big screen TV, nearby bathroom and refrigerator.

Looking foward to some really good early matchups of FL vs. Michigan, FSU vs. Alabama and our 3rd game of the season against FSU

Yes, I remember Friday nite games. I was there from 1957 to 1961...Fran Curci was QB and Jim Otto center. Otto graduated in 1960
Back then we were always scheduled for other teams homecoming game.

That's a serious and professional set-up, Cane. Love it!

I'm sorry but I not gonna drive 4 hours to see a crap product on the field during the Muschamp and Mac years. I went to a ton of games during the Spurrier and Meyer years because those were exciting times. Conversely we always go to a few basketball games a year. Go Gators!!

I love this thread. It's really interesting to me to see what other people like to do on my favorite days of the year.

I flip around the TV and watch other good matchups for the before and after our game. Usually knock back a few. More drinks if we're losing so I don't have to remember the pain. Smoke a cigar and listen to the post and pregame on WRUF. I live in Gainesville so sometimes I go out and tailgate if it's a big game. Visit local restaurants because they're extra fun on Gamedays.
I do think this year I'm going to try to put my phone down during the games. I've gotten into a really bad habit of texting and checking message boards. I have a constant text conversation going with my brother and dad and some other friends some times. But I would like to focus up more on experiencing the game and put my phone down.

We usually have people over on Gameday too but yeah we like to switch around and watch all other big games too. If we are driving for 4 hours then those are games that we don't get to see...

Not knocking you, jboss. But something to consider. Remember the fans that showed up despite the product in the late '50s and early '60s ultimately led to Spurrier gracing as a player. The same could be said for those of us that endured the early and mid '80s, before there was Emmitt, Steve the coach, or 10 win seasons.

Don't get me wrong, I get it. I've driven up from Jupiter only to see a garbage loss. I've retuned the very same night in some really bad situations. But you go, you support the players and team, and you leave Sunday and beyond to deal with the issues. It's part of what makes us Gators.

Again, just something to think about. Everyone is different. But in those occasions that we walk away with a big win, there aren't many better feelings. In any event, Go Gators.
