I refuse to participate. There's no reason for me to say who was the greatest across so many different times and with such variety in their circumstances. I do agree that SOS, Danny and Timmy are 'greatest ones' of UF.

Timmy edges out Danny, but I could see an argument being made for either...and SOS.

By the way, if we're talking greatest single game performance by a Gator player, I go Wilber.

Are you seriously asking members on THIS forum to quantify their thoughts on the greatest Gator football player using percentages??
For someone that shows open disdain for this forum and its members damn near daily (who simply cannot compete with your amazing intelligence and perfect life), you sure are here an awful lot. Have you considered trying another forum? Swamp Gas has a lot of intellectuals and more "real fans" that may suit you better.

Well, hopefully a "good season" consists of more than winning a horrible eastern conference and getting curb-stomped in the SECCG while fielding an unwatchable offense.

Exactly the kind of hate I was expecting.

Comes down to how you pose the question. Greatest quarterback tends to evoke Wuerffel. Greatest football player ---> Tebow. Spurrier is the guy who set the table for the whole thing.

I love Danny, but Tim was the most dominant college player I've ever seen. Personally, I think he was the greatest college football player in history. Don't forget he was screwed out of a second Heisman despite having the most first-place votes. He had a presence that deflated opponents psychologically before they even stepped foot on the field. He was a larger-than-life, Babe Ruth-like figure that connected with Gator fans like no other.

The UF player that was both the greatest athlete and the best by the widest margin at his position that I have seen is Wes Chandler.

The best QB in UF history is Weurffel and in my view it is not particularly close.

There is another player not on that list I have to consider/mention. Walter Mayberry last played football for UF in 1937. That is 80 seasons ago. He is still in the top 10 in picks despite probably being eligible for 27 varsity games. I noticed him in the record books in the late Spurrier yeas because it was approaching 70 years since he played and he was still showing up in the record book on offense (rushing as I remember) and defense. I wonder how many other guys mentioned in this thread will still be showing up in the top 10 in UF history in another 80 years.

Under that criteria in the OP it's Tebow. Harvin did have the quickest burst of speed in any football player I've ever seen. The one year against the Cocks where he had 100+ yds rushing and rec. was just amazing. I wanted to vote for Danny or Spurrier. But it's definitely Tebow.

This. It's frustrating there isn't more video of him during his UF years to show the younger fans. Chandler was a one-of-a-kind athlete who could make the acrobatic catch or the open-field run after catch that would leave defenders grasping for air. He had speed to burn, too. There has never been another UF receiver even in his area code.
