Where's Gruden this week?

He's actually having a secret meeting with Stricklin at Brad Culpepper's house right now. They're trying to agree on the assistant coaches salary pool, which if you recall from my post several years ago, was the stumbling block to Gruden accepting the job when he was negotiating with El Cheapo Foley.

Well then, it's time to put on the full court press :)

Durkin, Fleck, Mullet, all in the same boat. We are looking for offense.

Youreally want to run the option with Franks and LDR? Corral would immediately decommit. Half the receivers would transfer and we'd be four years from competing.

We dont have a single spread option RB, only one WR (Toney who would likely be the #2 QB) and Zaire is the only SO qb on the roster.

Any of those would be a Doug dickey kind of hire.

Why is this sonfvkking hard to understand? Just say no to the Little League QB carries 30 times offense.

We are currently four years from competing so what's the difference?

No to durkin. You don't hire a defensive coach when your offense has spent the last decade ranked in the 100s. Also why would we want a defensive coach who's defense isn't that good anyhow ?

He's not a defensive coach. He's not an offensive coach. He's a head coach in a power five conference and worth watching this year.

I liked him and wanted to keep him or Roper as interim than hiring Fooley's Failure Part III.

As a head coach at UF he was 1-0. I do like the fact he has broadened his experience by moving up to coordinator, then head coach. He doesn't have the pedigree yet but is worth watching over the coming weeks. One of many to watch.

The difference is I want to fire the guy who is four years (to never most likely) from competing and hire someone who can compete now.

We can ill afford another messed-up value play. I'm frankly sick of people who have no idea how to fish the small-cap pond for football coaches using the program as a test-tube experiment. We need a splash hire, a sure-fire guy in the worst way.

I agree with Ox. If Chip Kelly's unemployed and looking to return to the college game, we need to throw obscene money at the guy. Yeah, the buyouts are a financial drag and we're going to have to dig deep into the budget, but another four or five years of irrelevance will cost us a lot more.

Do it, do it now.

"Sure thing"? What's that? Every hire is a roll of the dice to some extent.

Hes a coach with a defensive backround. If our offense hadn't been in the gutter for this long I'd agree with you. I just don't think were the right fit for him atm.

Norvells offense is looking pretty good. And had the best non power 5 recruiting class in the nation last year. I've been watching this Memphis ucla game

I wouldn't hire him right now either. Mac is still the coach with one loss this year. A long season to go yet and, like most fans, my foresight is no where near as accurate as my hindsight. If Mac does leave this year or next, just saying Durkin is one of several to monitor in the coming weeks/months.

We should keep an eye on Mike Norvell at Memphis. I think this is only his second year as a head coach and he's really young, but I'm liking what I'm seeing from this Tiger offense. Very entertaining game against UCLA.
