Let us get it straight about this Hail Mary blllsht. A hail mary pass is when you send a crowd to the endzone and throw that mofo high and long toward it. HOPING your guy gets it. The last play was nothing like that. TC broke away from coverage and was wide open running past the guy that finally came over. FF set his feet and threw it as hard (the only HM part of it even) as any man could to a spot TC could run under it. It was in the air so long I went and took a pizzz and came back before it landed. By the time it got there a safety had closed in somewhat. I have seen many Hail Marys. This was not even within a mile of one. So forget that "lucky hail mary" crap. He spotted TC and did what a good QB does.
A Hail Mary pass is a very long forward pass in American football, made in desperation with only a small chance of success. In the Hail Mary pass all receivers run straight toward the end zone and the quarterback will make a long pass that is often "up for grabs".
made famous by a famous Cowboy QB, Rodger DOdger

It was still "luck" in the sense Tennessee played the dumbest defense I've ever seen and let him get behind the secondary. Doesn't matter what the technical term is, 9/10 times that play does not happen.

no, 99 times out of 100 it doesnt end that way............few 65 yard passes (in the air) end up where you want them. Especially at that time of a game and when it would count for so much

Totally agree. That was not a Hail Mary. I saw it develop from midfield. Franks broke right and when the deep coverage thought he was going to scramble he hesitated. Cleveland slipped behind and franks saw him right away. That throw carried over 60 yards on a dime. It was a sick throw but the last thing it was is lucky.

I'm not sure I agree with the dumbest defense comment. UT had to defend the out route, they couldn't just drop the safeties deep and play a zone coverage....they know what type of leg Eddie has.

Not only was it NOT a Hail Mary, it wasnt even meamt to be thrown down field. It was supposed to be thrown to the crossing route but Franks decided to win the game instead of playing bullshyt MacElchump conservative just run the clockout ball.

Other than the final pass, which was a rainbow and any other team's FS would have been deeper than Cleveland and knocked down or intercepted. And, Davis's long run we again had ZERO offense. We had receivers open all day and Franks was not reading his progression tree. He only looked at what I have to believe was his primary receiver and threw it there regardless of coverage. I actually thought Mac would instruct Franks to take a knee and play for overtime... Very surprised he was trying to get into FG range. I had not seen Tennessee play this season and my friend who rode to the game with me kept telling me they were worse than UF.... He was correct. Butch Jones' days at Tennessee are numbered.

Well then, let's run that play. Every down. Hit it 5 times in 60 mins and we score 35 points!

(Not taking anything away from the pitch and catch or for the win...everything going right on a play happens sometimes, that's why I love college ball!))

To Franks and Ty's credit, they practice that play in their own time. These are guys that want to be great and have the work ethic. I just wish we had a better staff to coach them.

It was. Said in the presser that it was only meant to pick up yardage for Eddie.

Which wouldnt have happened bc fvkking butters let 12 second run while waiting on a first down measurent.

If we HAD hit that crossing route, time would have expired. Just stupid coaching.

The writer who called it a Hail Mary evidently didn't do his homework on Franks' arm. That throw was as deliberately pinpointed as Franks waving off the receiver on the left sideline and flinging the ball for downtown Cleveland.

I'm starting to wonder if it might be a matter of just cutting loose Franks and his receiver corps. Sling the damn ball around. If we go down because of it at least we'll go down fighting instead of with plays that looks like we have the proverbial thumb stuck up our azz. Franks looks to have a cannon arm WITH accuracy which is rare if you think about it. If only now we can see if Franks can do reads on defense.

So true. Danny Wuerffel is no del Rio.

Speaking of Danny, the thing about him was he could read defenses like a first grade reader. I would have given anything to have been in the room when SOS realized or saw that in him. How many times did I just marvel watching him burning a defense whenever they rushed him? As great a coach as Spurrier is being able to read D on that level is something that can't be taught on the level Danny had it.
