They're playing their tails off -

He says this every press conference. As if to say there's no reason to be upset – they're leaving it all on the field.

To me that is a bigger indictment on him and the staff. We are vastly superior to many teams in talent and the kids are having to play until there is nothing left. Every bit of energy wasted. To complete exhaustion.

Leaving everything on the field against teams that we should easily be able to out scheme.

Every single press conference I have to hear this crap.

@URGatorBait - I need you to run up and throw a straight punch into his sack.

Why can't we get a single reporter to ask why are our kids getting exhausted playing against inferior programs?

Bunch of horsesh*t if you ask me.

It's the typical, "At least we had fun" excuse.

Everybody gets a trophy. Honestly, what is the reason Nuss hasn't been replaced? Let's pretend all of the blackmail jokes with "Nuss has a photo of Mac..." have already been used. Is there any reason other than arrogance or failure to acknowledge the problem on Mac's part that is allowing Nuss to keep his job? Is it that Grier showed promise in 2 starts and therefore the gameplan/system works so we just have to plug in the right talent? It baffles me that there has been no change or sign of it after two+ years of Adazzio part deux.

This goes along with every halftime sideline reporter interview where the reporter asks something along the lines of:

Reporter: "It looks like your offense stalled quite a bit in the first half but came through with a pretty solid drive to end the half. How do you carry that momentum into the second half?"

Mac: "Well Holly look at this turn out. Isn't it beautiful weather? These fans are really into it. Isn't that what it's all about? It's really something if you think about it. It's a beautiful day. Don't you think?"

"They're playing their tails off." Any mid-level manager will tell you that effort and results are not the same. I will take results over effort any day. Sadly, I don't see much of either coming from McElwain.

The really sad thing is, he'll probably be deflecting like that out the door when he's fired -- with several million still owed.

That's also his subtle way of deflecting thought from him and Nuss to the kids. It sounds complimentary and supportive of them, and while it does point out the obvious as you say, I think he does it not just out of feelings for them, or a show of support for them, but also with the intent of leading listieners thoughts to the kids, ie away from coaches , and into, those poor kids are giving it their all, how can we complain.

See above post. I rest my case. Intentional.
