This thread still raises my blood pressure.

Not a good start for a new AD.

Great googily Moggily, nuss raise was $315,000+/year. His RAISE, not salary. For what!? The avg American makes $50k. His raise was 6x that for a 100+ ranked O.

Think how many used cars, bridges and swamplan Mac can sell. His future is brighter than his teffus.

:mac:

Luckily he insisted on keeping his boy Nuss. If he had a new OC, we'd probably be obligated to give him another year of 100+ ranked offense "to give Ole Butters a chance to get his players in".

Not that it was justified, but Nuss was getting money from Michigan (he was let go when Hoke got fired)....so he was making less money his first two seasons at UF (w/ Michigan paying him a supplement). Once that ended, McElwain gave him a raise to get him in the range of SEC OC's.

Still unbelievable. But as Law said, keeping Nussmier (and Nord) put the nail in Butters coffin. If he had brought in a somewhat competent OC and we improved to inside the top 100, we likely would have won the LSU and A&M games....and Butters would still be here. I'm not a fan of losing to get rid of a coach, but I suppose this was the best we could have hoped for in getting rid of a cancer to our program (Butters, Nuss, Nord....Kent and a few others that Butters brought w/ him).

That would have been fine, if he were in the range of an SEC OC.

I agree. It at least showed a willingness to pay what we should be paying. I can't believe they let Butters keep that clown. Stricklin either got duped or it was already a done deal before he took over. I can't believe a competent AD would have allowed the raise and extensions.

Except Nuss didn't get a raise. He was getting $300k from Meatchicken. When that ended we made up the difference. It was in the original contract Foley gave him.

Im not a fan of losing for any reason but the truth is I have very little to do with the team winning or losing.

Butters chose to lose (or chose a path likely to produce losses). He won A LOT of coin tosses his first two years, double OT wins w FAU and Kintucky etc. It was never going to continue.

At least we have thoroughly debunked the "defense wins championships" theory. Turns out, scoring more points than the other team wins championships and the prerequisite to scoring more points is scoring some points. After a decade of testing, it is proven that very good or even great defense combined with no offense wins about half your games.

If we signed a new contract promising to give him $300k more and a 1 yr extension, then it was a raise and an extension, no matter how much an previous school paid him to be the worst OC in their conference.

It wasnt in the original contract or we wouldnt have needed to sign a new one. What you perhaps meant was that it was a wink wink "we will screw Meatchikin" verbal agreement.

And boy did we get over on Meatchikin, gwtting them to pay part of Mr. 116s salary.

I have neither the gumption nor the give-a-shyt to look it up. At the time that's what they said the deal was. At this point it's a bag of flaming shyt on your doorstep. And I enjoy watching you stomp on it.

None of the back and forth on this board does.
