Florida recruiting: Dameon Pierce visiting Saturday, Matt Corral update

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-recruiting-dameon-pierce

Dameon Pierce visiting
Gators commit Dameon Pierce has attended every Florida home game this season, and that streak won’t end Saturday.

The 4-star running back from Bainbridge, Ga., will be on hand when the Gators host UAB. Pierce appears to be solid with his pledge despite Jim McElwain’s departure and the team’s 3-6 record.

The top-200 overall prospect is still recruiting others to join him in Florida’s 2018 class and continues to communicate with UF commits. Pierce committed on Aug. 3 after visiting the school twice in one week.

Two factors have kept Pierce solid amid Florida’s coaching change and losing season.

No. 1 is his relationship with primary recruiter and Gators running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider. They have a close bond and Seider is the most likely assistant to remain on staff, something Pierce is probably aware of and/or has been told.

Another factor is playing time. The Gators will have a deep backfield next season, but Pierce believes he can crack the rotation and make an impact as a true freshman after seeing Malik Davis get that opportunity in 2017.

Last month, Pierce told SEC Country he plans to enroll early at Florida.

“I feel comfortable and I feel at home with this place. My mom likes it. My family likes it,” Pierce said. “Most people might not like the Florida Gators because they’re FSU fans or whatever, but they like the decision I made. It’s a great decision overall and it feels good. I’m comfortable with it.”

Matt Corral update
Gators QB commit Matt Corral plans to officially visit Alabama this weekend and will take a trip to Florida on Nov. 25.

His father, Peter Corral, spoke to SEC Country about the upcoming visits and where things stand with his son’s recruiting process (read more).

SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner reported Thursday that while Alabama will host Corral and has interest in him, Emory Jones is the school’s No. 1 target at this time.

The Ohio State QB commit is expected to make a final decision between the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide before the early signing period.

“Despite the ramped up communication with Corral, Alabama is still waiting to see what 4-star Ohio State quarterback commit Emory Jones does. He remains the priority target. Corral doesn’t have a spot in the Tide’s class until Jones makes up his mind on whether he wants to flip from the Buckeyes.

And, to be clear, Alabama hasn’t given Jones an ultimatum on when he has to let the coaching staff know if he wants to commit or not. The Tide are going to wait for Jones to make his decision before deciding on a backup option.”

Georgia reaches out to Florida safety commit Randy Russell

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/randy-russell-florida-georgia

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Florida safety commit Randy Russell has heard from three schools since Jim McElwain’s departure.

The 4-star safety from Miami Carol City told SEC Country that Georgia, Michigan and Louisville reached out to him in hopes of securing an official visit.

But at this time, Russell is locked in with Florida.

“I just love the Gators,” he said Friday after Carol City’s 17-10 win over Daytona Beach Mainland. “There’s no other school that I went to where I felt like home. That’s my second home.”

Florida interim coach Randy Shannon and defensive backs coach Corey Bell landed Russell on July 22 after he visited UF twice in the summer.

Russell would like to see Bell and Shannon retained but said he will stick “if they stay or if they go.”

The early enrollee said he intends to sign with the Gators on Dec. 22 — no matter whom the head coach is.

“My commitment is still solid with all the things going on,” Russell said. “I love Coach Mac dearly. Still have a strong relationship with Coach Bell and Coach Shannon. But if things don’t go how I want them to go, I’m solid either way.”

Russell will attend the Florida-FSU game and plans to officially visit UF next month.

247Sports ranks Russell as the nation’s No. 12 safety and No. 183 overall prospect. Despite his firmness to Florida, Russell did not rule out possible visits to Georgia, Michigan and Louisville.

“I may consider all three, enjoy the process and just see things different,” Russell said, “but I’m all in.”

Florida RB commit Dameon Piece staying put if Ja’Juan Seider doesn’t go

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-recruiting-dameon-pierce-2

Dameon Pierce update
The Gators haven’t hired Chip Kelly yet, but one of Florida’s commits has already celebrated as promised.

Dameon Pierce, a 4-star running back from Bainbridge, Ga., told SEC Country he would do “cartwheels” if Kelly got the job.

Less than 24 hours later, Pierce walked the talk after news broke Sunday that Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin had flown to New Hampshire to meet with Kelly.

Instantly Regretting Those Cartwheels ‍♂️

— Dameon Pierce (@IRep229) November 20, 2017

Piere said the hiring of Kelly would be “icing on the cake” as far as his commitment to Florida is concerned. He plans to sign early on Dec. 20 and enroll at UF in January.

However, Kelly-to-Florida isn’t a done deal and neither is Pierce’s pledge.

The coach who matters most to Pierce is Gators assistant Ja’Juan Seider, his primary recruiter and future position coach. Pierce could re-open his recruitment if Seider is not retained.

“That’ll have a huge impact on my decision with Florida and I might have to de-commit, depending on circumstances,”Pierce said after attending Florida’s 36-7 win over UAB. “That’s a key factor in my recruiting process with Florida.”

That being said, Pierce feels “pretty sure” that Seider will be back next season based on his conversations with him.

“He said with the way things are going with the athletics director, things look solid,” Pierce said. “But you’re never sure. It’s a day-to-day thing. He’s still here now, so I’m still here.”

Pierce has attended every home game this season and was back on campus Saturday for the first time in more than a month. He said the highlight of his latest trip was watching Florida’s run game (257 yards) and spending time with Seider.

“That’s my boy,” Pierce said of Seider. “He was just really catching up on my life, checking on me and asking how I’m doing. … Me and Coach Seider, we don’t talk football. We just talk life. The only football we talk about is the hiring of a new coach and just me coming in early and getting playing time.

“Every time I come down here, it’s a great experience and I enjoy myself. I liked the intensity, great coaching and tonight we came out with a win. Coach (Randy) Shannon is doing a great job of leading those guys on the field.”

Pierce returns to Gainesville this weekend for the Florida-Florida State game and will officially visit UF after the season. The nation’s No. 9 running back said he’s considering some other potential visits as well.

“It’s a recruiting process, so why not check out schools? I don’t know if I can name any of them right now because I’m still thinking about it,” Pierce said. “As far as official visits go, I know for a fact Florida is one of my officials and might be my first official to be honest. I’m just going to check out schools and just have fun with it. I might go across the country. You never know.”

Is it just me or does the title of his article seem stupid and logically confusing? Why would you write a whole article about a recruit being close to a coach and hoping he stays but title it saying he is staying put if the very same guys stays put?

Yes, stupid article title. Keep in mind, the Bowl wrote it! :D

I think Pierce stays in this class regardless. He's been to every home game! That's impressive....especially coming to watch the crap-show Butters has put on the field. He's invested in the UF program, as evidenced by his frequent visits. If he bailed out now it probably means we'll have made a poor hire, not that Seider wasn't retained. I am not against Seider staying on - he's done an admirable job, losing his starting RB before the season started and developing Davis - and identifying Davis as the best RB over Perine and Thompson. Plus he comes from an offense similar to Frost & Kelly's (at WVU). I think he'd be a valuable asset to the next coaching staff.

Yeah...we saw what happened when a recruit committed to Chump at Auburn. As far as this kid knows, Seider might take another job 2 days after he signs.

I know its him just enjoying the process but Satan needs to keep his pitch fork away from our Matty Icehttps://www.seccountry.com/florida/...vell_AJC&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social

That's not good. From earlier reports, Alabama is holding off on giving Corral an offer to see what the Ohio State commit does (seeing if he flips to Bama). Now that the kid committed to Kentucky (Jarren Williams?) looks like he's flipping to Miami, Alabama is down to the Ohio State kid.....and Corral as their Plan B. This sucks for us and another reason it would be great for Kelly to be announced. Otherwise, we could lose more than just Corral. For now, I think Corral sticks. What is he supposed to say after visiting Bama? I imagine it's a great visit for any HS kid. The no offer yet from Bama can go two ways - a) he doesn't want to be their Plan B and "screw you"....or b) it makes it more desirable to the kid since they aren't coddling him as their only option.

Let's assume that CK has been signed. As others have already suggested, it's possible that he cannot be announced until after the fsu game otherwise we'd have one coach too many, or would have to move Ackey back to off the field coach (I have no idea how legit that is, but please bear with me). However, I would imagine that IF he has been signed, that recruits such as Corral could be contacted and be informed.

Meyer built his entire staff while Fickell coached the team. They essentially had two full coaching staffs w Meyer's staff out recruiting and the interim/lame-duck staff coaching the bowl game (vs. UF and Will Muschamp).

UGA commit, the #1 RB in the nation - Zamir White - tears ACL:

Report: Elite Georgia commit Zamir White suffers torn ACL

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/g...-georgia-commit-zamir-white-suffers-torn-acl/

The Georgia Bulldogs are putting together quite the 2018 recruiting class, landing the No. 1 overall prospect in QB Justin Fields and No. 1 RB Zamir White.

However, on Monday, news broke that White — a North Carolina native — had torn his ACL.

The news broke on Twitter on Monday afternoon, with Rivals.com confirming the bad news for the elite running back:

How long White will take to recover from the ACL tear remains to be seen, but his freshman year at Georgia is now in jeopardy.

Whether he ends up taking a redshirt in 2018 or not remains to be seen, but he’ll likely at least be out through spring ball, if he was going to be an early enrollee at Georgia.

According to the 247Sports composite, White is the No. 6 overall player nationally, the No. 1 running back in the 2018 class and the No. 1 overall recruit from the state of North Carolina.

I still don’t understand how that was allowed by the ncaa, especially considering what appeared to be a lack of institutional control - there were new revelations happening every week while their AD repeatedly said it wasn’t a systemic problem... again... and again...
