All the best Eddie and thanks for the memories. It was nice having a semblance of a kicker for 2 seasons, but we are not too far removed from putrid kicking so we will know how to react when we have an Austin Hardin type or "the dentist type" kicker next year.

His tweet literally doesn't mean a thing and he's only a sophomore do kickers usually leave that early?
He is a redshirt junior. He attended CC two years before enrolling at UF.

Don't remember ever seeing a kicker leave a year of eligibility on the table hope he's not making a huge mistake.
Maybe we'll finally let him try from 60+ this week.

I thought Janikowski from the rapies left early.

what does that mean? Every kicker stays on the team for his leg alone.

Myers leg was the strongest in the NFL. It is why he stayed on the roster so long even though he was one of the worst kickers.

I think your right can't think of anybody else that could have. I love Eddie and all but did he have a comparable college career to that fat drunk?

I have a hard time seeing him getting drafted at all maybe 7th round.

I think in the history of professional football the Raiders are the only team who have used a 1st round pick on a punter (Ray Guy) and a placekicker (Janikowski). Both played for a zillion years for the Raiders, so I guess it worked out. Meanwhile the Bucs used a 2nd round pick on Roberto Aguayo and I do not know if he is even in the league. For the record, I would never ever draft a kicker or a punter. FA's only for me.

There is a ton of competition in the NFL and the good ones stay around for 15+ years. He's going to have a chance but landing one of the 32 NFL kicking jobs in the world is hard.

Good luck Eddy. He was always a Mac kid moreso than a Fl kid.

Come on Connor.

I’d say he spend some time practicing kicking NFL balls through NFL uprights before he leaves early. Great college kickers flame out all the time when they go pro because it’s completely different.

Your post piqued my curiosity about kickers who were picked in the first round. I found this article provided in the link. It's been a while since I have heard names like Russel Erxlebean and Pete Gogolak.

Thanks for being pretty darn good Eddy. Sorry ole butters wouldn't let you kick it more often. For some stupid reason he loved going for it on 4th down even when our Oline repeatedly failed to meet the challenge. And loved being a wuss and punting when we were well within your range. Go kick some 70 yarders in the NFL before it crumbles to the ground. Good luck!

What memories? The fans chanting a kickers name because everything else was so putrid is probably the lowest point of the Mac era. I certainly cringed when I heard it.

I don't think this can be stated enough. The only reason Pinero was a fan favorite is because of how bad Austin Hardin was and how horrible our team has been for the last 7 years.

Going pro? Please. I wouldn't draft him. Yeah he has a big leg but he's far from the most accurate kicker I've ever seen.
I think he's hit like 16 out of the last 17. That's damn near perfect. It sucks a fat one that he's leaving early.

As much as Eddy is a great kicker, at our Savannah viewing party last week, the member sitting next to me kept cheering him on because "he's the best player on the team." He's a great kicker, I'm sorry to see him go, and wish him the best, hoping that Nelson's kid will fill the bill, but when your "best player" is the kicker, that's not a great thing, that's because the offense sucks. I remember SOS saying something like "we'll trade you TDs for FGs all day long" (sic). There were plenty of drives this season that should NEVER had ended in a FG, that should have ended in a TD.

Hopefully we will get a serviceable replacement who will do well . . . when NEEDED. And hopefully, we will get a new coach that will make "when NEEDED" situations few and far between, the unusual rather than the norm.

We used to have a coach who considered field goals a huge fail. He'd say that even if you make two of them in a row, if you had gone for it both times instead and scored only one touchdown, you'd have won the game. Coach's name was Steve Spurrier. We'll miss you Eddie. You'll wish you stayed for the winning.
