I’m in the 9 win camp... as reasonable expectation with schedule and transition to new identity and QB in the air

I'm not exactly thrilled with this hire. But give him a break. To expect ten wins with what the coach i will no longer name left behind is to expect a miracle. Even Tebow doesn't walk on water.

Look, it isnt about wins next year. I dont think any offense would really work well with what we have but the Q Power is probably the one that works the least.

Number of wins isnt important. What is important is:
Strength and conditioning. It is about fvkking time defense especially put on some mass. Maybe they will get embarrased less often.

Player development: it would be nice to look like we actually practice this **** some.

Recruiting recruiting recruiting. There will probably be some blips this class but top 10 is about the worst it should ever be. Lets hope we see a top3-5 next year if he is worth his salt.

I wanna see a team that looks like it knows what it's doing. If the qb can't throw well enough ok. If our receivers can't catch, ok. Those personnel issues will get fixed with recruiting. But recruiting isn't going to fix a disorganized mob. I wanna see an offense that can get a play call in on time, have everybody know what the play is, and what their assignment is, and what to do in some sort of audible or check down or hot read scenario, and actually be proficient enough to get the snap off with more than 2 seconds left on the play clock. That will be huge progress right there.

Same goes for special teams.....let's look like we have a clue on how to cover a punt or kickoff or how to return a punt or kickoff instead of the utter clown show we've seen the last three years.

As bad as we were are competition has been worse. The only team that really beat us this year was UGA. The other losses we beat ourselves. Competent coaching will go a long long way.

I don't how yall can guage how many wins yet. I could see a 10 win season if we can find a decent qb to plug in, a gradtransfer or juco transfer. And a if the s&c guy is pretty good.

If were still small, soft and shuffling Franks in and out without someone else then i see another 5 to 6 win season.

They both had solid rosters handed to them. Mac didn’t give DM the same level of service.

If you think that anyone thought the 1989 roster was any good, your memory is fooling you. Heck in 1989 several guys were suspended mid-season ala the credit card gang this year. And UF essentially had no QB at the end of the 1989 season.

I'm really not trying to be negative. I am going to be realistic though. Mullen has a head coaching record. He's gone 10-3 once in nine years.

If you want 10 win seasons we could have hired mark richt from miami.

I get it "but that was miss state, we're UF".
Im only judging the man by his own resume. Don't get me wrong Miss st earned respect and I'm happy that we aren't going to be a look ahead game anymore. But thinking that he will do something he's never done is just a wish.

I get what you are saying but there is a definite ceiling at MSU that doesn’t exist at Florida. Sorry Starkville, but barring an incredibly lucky 3 year recruiting stretch, a huge drop in the level of play in the SEC West or Freeze level cheating (allegedly), MSU will never be a NC contender regardless of who coaches there. Spurrier coached 3 years at Duke and had 5, 7 and 8 wins which was considered a huge success given the talent linitations. There is only so much you can do with that level of talent and nobody is lining up to play in Mississippi.

There are a lot of people who would disagree with you.

I didn’t say it was loaded. I said it was solid.

I recall SOS predicting some early success because of the upperclassmen, followed by a year or two of struggling due to the younger guys (weaker recruiting classes). Sure enough, ‘90 and ‘91 were great, then ‘92 showed our lack of depth and quality on the OL (2 true freshmen starting OTs). Getting Rhett and a few other big recruits early on minimized the “rough” year in ‘92 when we only won the SEC East.

The premise of this post is that Mac's failure was not his won-loss record, but rather his failure to field a team that showed even a slight hope of competing at an elite level.

Consider 2015. We entered the FSU game with a 10-1 record, theoretically poised to make a championship run. The only problem was that not one person in the world believed we had any hope of challenging FSU or Alabama.

2016 offered a similar scenario. 8-2 going to Tallahassee. Had we beaten FSU and Alabama we would at least be in the national conversation. Again, no one believed we could compete at that level.

I contend that if the two FSU games and the two SEC Championship games had been hard-fought, competitive, 4 quarter battles that saw the Gators come up just short all four times, Mac may have survived this season. The narrative would've been that he has the Gators on a trajectory toward elite status, but 2017 was derailed by suspensions, injuries, bad luck, etc.

It matters because it speaks to the expectations for Mullen. After eight consecutive seasons of bad football I think Mullen will buy himself a lot of time if he fields teams that can play four quarters with the best teams in our state and conference, whoever they happen to be.

What I wonder is this. If he accomplishes that, how long are we willing to wait for a SEC title?

I think we want to see improvement in all phases of the game.

We were so bad this season that improvement will be inevitable but we need to see significant signs that the team is actually understanding the game of football.

I believe we have the talent (if properly coached) to win 7/8 games, minimum but I think the year won't be judged a success or failure based on wins alone. It's going to be "how" we win or lose. Are we going to be Clowns or Warriors?

I'm hoping for Warriors.

####### Everything revolvs around QB play and right now, we don't have one.

Just get control of the team. Get control of the sideline. Have a head coach who is engaged and is not pacing the sidelines like he's depressed and detached. Have a team that plays with a purpose. Be on the same page. Have mental and physical toughness. Have players that trust each other. No showboating. Decrease stupid penalties. Play like your proud to put on a Gator uniform. Bock and tackle like you want to. Look like you want to be on the field. Have a coach that players respect.

No set number of wins but 9 at a minimum would be good. You can do it Mullen. The Gator fans will get behind you.
