Bama could miss the playoff possibly?

Its likely someone will stub their toe out of these other teams in the next 2 weeks but nothing is guaranteed.

1. If Bama loses to Auburn its almost assured the Georgia/Auburn winner would get the nod over them short of Georgia being upset by GT since Auburn would finish with wins over Bama, Miss State and 2 wins over Georgia while Georgia would have wins over Auburn, Miss State and Notre Dame plus being the conference champion.

2. The Miami/Clemson winner would go over them short of an upset because Miami would be undefeated with wins over Clemson and Notre dame and Clemson would have wins over Miami and Auburn plus the conference championship.

3. Oklahoma if they win the Big 12 would go over them barring an upset for wins over OSU on the road and 2 wins over TCU plus the conference championship.

4. Wisconsin if they beat OSU barring an upset @ Minnesota would be an undefeated conference champion and Bama's schedule doesn't have many good teams on it either with Miss State being the only decent win right now. I don't see how they would leave an undefeated conference champion out against a team with one loss that also is light in the big win department plus there would be the added pressure of a 2 loss Auburn being one of the teams in the playoff if they win the SEC. How would they justify not putting an undefeated Wisconsin in there when margin of victory isn't supposed to be a factor.

I generally agree but if a conference champion has more losses and less good wins than another team I can live with them passing them over.

It is possible.

They need to beat Auburn and then Ga to be in for sure. Might depend on what others do but I don't think if they lose to Auburn they will be in.

Having a bunch of LBs hurt will be an issue for them, need more offense.

Well a few years ago, bama won the natty without winning the sec or even their divsion,

True but they had an argument that year with that system. I would have sent Oklahoma State over them myself since they won their conference.

Fever, following is my post from an earlier thread. Plaigerism? Just kidding.
  1. In the playoffs: WISCONSIN, AUBURN, CLEMSON, OKLAHOMA. Here's how:
  2. Auburn gets Bama at Jordan Hare Stadium. So for the sake of stirring the pot, let's say Auburn wins and leaves Bama with one loss and no championship. Then assume Auburn beats Georgia a second time. Auburn finishes with two losses and an SEC championship.
  3. Let's say Miami remains undefeated until losing a very close competitive ACCCG to one-loss Clemson.
  4. Assume Oklahoma wins out. They are a one loss conference champ.
  5. Lastly, assume Wisconsin wins out to become an undefeated conference champ.
  6. PAC-12 will have a two-loss conference champ.
  7. Here are the teams in the playoff for sure due to one or fewer losses and conference champs: Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Clemson.
  8. Who fills the 4th spot? One loss Alabama who lost to Auburn? Two-loss Auburn who wins conference by beating a team they throttled the first time around? One-loss Miami who arguably has a comparable SOS to Bama? Two-loss PAC-12 champ?
  9. IMHO, Auburn will be the 4th team by virtue of being a conference champ in a stronger conference than PAC-12 and a higher ranking.
  10. One loss Bama might not make it to playoff.
  11. Fly in the ointment would be one-loss Georgia winning SECCG. In that case Georgia is in and Bama/Auburn stay home.

If a frog had wings...

There's always many scenarios that could play out. That is what makes college football so exciting!

I think Alabama will beat Auburn, though. We will see.

Bammer is going to drill The Barn. Since 2008, The Barn has won only twice, once on a miracle sCam comeback, the other on the kick six. Bammer covers with ease, wins by 14-17.

Its probably close to a done deal now that Bama would get left out with a loss and Wisconsin finishing undefeated with that Miss State loss.

Very unlikely, but possible.

How about this. If Auburn wins, but Alabama still makes the playoff as well as Clemson, Auburn in theory could play Alabama twice, uga twice, and Clemson twice this season. That's insane.

Yep if Wisconsin loses Bama will still get in I would think. That would be crazy.

I know you can find crazy stats a lot of places but Saban is 0-6 against Auburn in the seasons Auburn won at least 9 games that year.

I think they let OSU get that 4th spot. They will have 3 better wins than Bama and the conference championship. That should overcome the extra loss.

To me if you can't win your conference you should not be in the playoffs...

I don't see it as an absolute but it should definitely be the difference if things are close. I would say if the teams have the same number of losses it should always be the overriding factor.

I'm with it on winning the conference championship. With that said......the B1G is a joke. Thus lots of room for discussion and controversay.

I just don't like the idea of people deciding who gets in and who doesn't when the number of teams playing is only 4 and they're 5 power conferences......for better or worse I would rather see teams have to play their way into the playoffs versus a group of people picking them.

I emphatically stated weeks ago that even if OSU won the Big 10, there was no way they get into the playoff, with 2 huge BLOWOUT losses hanging around their necks. It appears that I may have been wrong. It will be interesting, but regardless of who gets that 4th slot, I don't think they are a real contender.

The whole point of the playoff committee is to select the “four best teams.” Even though neither Bama nor Barn won the SEC, they would blow the doors off of OSU and Wisky. Conference champs shouldn’t be given an automatic bid to the playoffs and the committee set a precedent last year by putting OSU in the playoffs even though they didn’t even play in their conference champ game!
