275 plus being needed, instead of 300 that Saban has always used, doesnt changed bc we have a stack of 240 pounders.

Im also not so optimistic that the microend guys can run well enough to play OLB.

Fwiw, they have been listing Conliffe as a DE all along. He is quick, especially for a man that large. I dont think they are showing him as a DE just to male the numbers work.

Except for Dunlap, Campbell and Conliff. Polite and Carter if they can put on weight and Desir-Jones if he comes off of suspension.

We don't know much about Dunlap so will have to wait for practice to see how he does. Desir-Jones can't play football so doesn't really matter if he comes back from suspension. The rest I agree on and really hope Carter has put on some weight.

Wishful thinking on Dunlap as it is on others hoping they can pay the new positions. It's one thing to be the prototypical size it's another to have the skill.
But why can't Desir-Jones play? Assuming the school clears him and the others to play football.

Look, in the 3-4 you have to have three 300 pounders on the field. You can't even get away with tweeners.

Polite might work as a strong-side DE, maybe Zachattack if he can get to 285 or so, but none of the rest of our DEs will work at all. The must be fast enough to move to linebacker or they need to pack their bags.

Difficult to gain weight without PB&J...

So what's your depth chart look like for the front 7, specifically?

Because he sucks.

He meant he cant play well. Another FAU steal special.
Based on what though? It's not like he's played a down at DT for us. He played OL as JR, SR in HS and OL as a frosh with us. So coach the boy up! Just need him in the rotation, not to start. 6'4" 290 can't be taught but hole plugging can be.

Of course not, but he did help design the version that he, Grantham, Mushdump, Pruitt and all the other one his tree use.

For those of us fixated with size that would be:
DE: Polite (6'2" 260 JR), Ancrum (6'5" 263 JR), Carter (6'4" 270 SO)
NG: Clarke (6'1" 315 SR), Campbell (6'3" 305 SO), Slaton (6'4" 358 SO)
DE: Conliffe (6'4" 317 SO), Dunlap (6'4" 300 Juco), RDJ (6'4" 290, SO)

Polite is awfully small to playing on the line. Let's hope someone else steps up.

Polite is pretty good. He is easily better than some of the others larger dudes. However seeing him add twenty pounds of muscle would be nice.

The chart omits P Tommy Townsend, who was the #1 P in his class.

It includes RJ Raymond, who appears to be a lovable walk-on. He might have been awarded an extra scholarship but shouldn’t be listed among the pool of actual players. There are “former walk-ons” who actually play and those who are rewarded on a single year basis if there is room (and there is always room.)

While I appreciate reporters can’t publicly predict attrition of specific individuals, transition years tend to involve a higher number of transfers & whatnot. Don’t be surprised if there’s room for a full class or we have under 80 on the scholarship roster next year.
