Just throwing out my $.02 on the Copeland / Watkins. When Copeland decommitted, he was asked what would it take for him to recommit to UF in the future. He said UF would need to hire a players' coach like McElwain. In my opinion, you couldn't get better than Mullen to fit that! Bily Gonzales is one of the best WR coaches in the country who is calling him Percy-like. That has to help. As for Watkins, I just watched some highlight videos on him. I really hate all the "you remind me of Percy" comparisons, but to be honest, Watkins film kinda does remind me of him. He make very quick up-field cuts has great eyes to the open field. I'm very high on him with his talent in Mullen's offense!

i think what we are learning more and more is that mac was a "players' coach" only in the sense that he made zero demands of any player. The players that prefer to have the coach be cool and not push them over actually becoming better players and winning are guys we don't want anyway

Does Tennessee finish w/ a higher ranked "transition class" than we do? Pruitt is doing solid work considering he was w/ Alabama through the NC game....and considering the sh*t-show that was the Tennessee coaching search.

Barton Simmons: Schools should be concerned if their commits visit Tennessee right now

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/t...-concerned-commits-visit-tennessee-right-now/

Hide the recruits, Tennessee is coming.

That seems to be the feeling some programs around the South may be feeling according to 247Sports’ Director of Scouting Barton Simmons. Simmons was a recent guest on WJOX 94.5 FM program The Opening Drive to discuss the current recruiting trends at Alabama and Auburn but momentarily steered the conversation toward Tennessee when discussing one prospect.

Current Auburn four-star commit Coynis Miller was one of the few Tiger pledges that did not sign with the school during the early signing period. The 2018 Under Armour All-American is rated as the No. 13 defensive tackle in the nation by 247Sports and has been committed to Auburn since October.

Despite that commitment, Coynis is still actively being recruited by multiple programs leading up to National Signing Day. Here’s what Simmons had to say about Miller’s recruitment with signing day just weeks away.

“Coynis Miller, he has official visits set up. I would be less worried about his official visit to Oregon (Jan. 19) and maybe a little bit more concerned about his visit to Tennessee (Jan. 26) the following weekend. He also has a Florida (Feb. 2) visit set up,” Simmons said on the show.

“You guys have seen it up close, how effective Jeremy Pruitt is as a recruiter. (Tennessee) is a school that’s really hot right now, and I’d be a little unsettled if any of my school’s prospects were heading to Knoxville right now because you have a new staff. A lot of energy, a lot of optimism, I would keep an eye on that.

“I think (Auburn) has a good chance to hold onto him but that’s one to watch down the stretch.”

Tennessee is desperate for help on the line of scrimmage and is likely selling that fact on Miller. How well his visits go could determine where he ultimately signs and it appears those in the recruiting industry have a ton of faith in Tennessee’s new coach to seal the deal leading up to signing day.

I think this is spot on. You know who I've never heard described as a 'players' coach'? Nick Saban. That doesn't mean he doesn't care about his players, but rather that he is very demanding of them. And that's one of the reasons he is so successful. I'd be perfectly happy if we never hired another players' coach again.

I haven’t looked at a lot of his tape, but I’ll tell you that I looked at a lot of Percy’s tape when he came out of high school. You just didn’t see players like him at that level. His ability to hit his top gear after planting his foot is about his elite as you can get. There aren’t many people in the NFL that can even do what he did.

The closest that I have seen since Percy Harvin was Dalvin Cook. I still can’t believe that he flipped to the clowns.

The next closest that I have seen is Lorenzo Lingard. It still pisses me off that we missed on him this year and he committed to Miami.

The logical extension of that is that McnCrew "de-developed" players into non-producers. Players that recognized Mac's slippage had no place to turn to develop into effective CFB players. UF is extremely cursed to have hired him.
Savvy recruits refused to come to UF. That was only going to advance into more thurough rejections.

Percy had a way of changing direction, of “juking”, that was soooo F’ing smooth that he just made guys miss; not really breaking ankles but just made them miss. Hard to explain but seldom seen.

Im grateful every day that he did. Dude was a total scumbag perfect for rapeU. Beat up a chick and put her in the hospital. Disgusting.

He didn’t touch that chick. Reading the court transcript it is pretty clear Davante Phillps punched that girl in the mouth. The girl picked the wrong player but no surprise the Tally police department didn’t investigate further after Cook was (rightly) found innocent.

Florida checks in on a pair of high-priority offensive linemen
With three weeks left until National Signing Day, every day counts and every opportunity to visit face-to-face with a top recruiting target matters.

As such, Florida coach Dan Mullen and his staff have been busy on the road this week.

Mullen and offensive line coach John Hevesy visited with top offensive line prospects Nicholas Petit-Frere and Richard Gouraige — ranked the No. 3 and No. 7 offensive tackles in the Class of 2018 by the 247Sports composite — on Tuesday in Tampa.

Petit-Frere, rated a 5-star offensive tackle and the No. 17 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 by the 247Sports composite, is expected to take an official visit to Florida on Jan. 26 after already visiting Michigan and Notre Dame and with trips also planned to Alabama and Ohio State.

Gouraige, a 4-star offensive tackle prospect, committed to Florida in October but did not sign last month during the early window. He officially visited Clemson last weekend and is set to check out Auburn this week.
