I kinda miss the "Chip Kelly! we-want-him-no-we-don't-want-him-he'll-ditch-us-no-he'll-stay-because-WE'RE-UF-what's-the-tail-number-on-the-plane?-a-plane-took-off-from-G'ville-and-picked-CK-up-NO-DUMBAZ-IT-TOOK-FUCHS-TO-KELLY-"IT'S-A-DONE-DEAL!"-what?-CK-is-going-to-UCLA?" thread.

Good times, good times.

Strick was not complaining that the coaches job was hard. He was complaining that coaches' salaries made the AD job too hard.

Wouldn't all those factors make it harder for a AD of a top 5 university make it harder to get a candidate? Think about it.

Bammer IS the game. OSU also. Then came Clemson and Clown Town. Then Pedo State and Meatchikin. Now ATM.

To win the game, you got to play the name.

Maybe some day we will decide to compete again.

Competing will start with facilities, why would I go to UF and older support structure, or somewhere with newer support structure for similar money.

Stricklin knew Kelly was a flight risk, but the opportunity was there, and you have to try. You don't meet with a candidate physical and through other channels as many times as they did without there being some level of mutual interest. What is the difference for Kelly who makes $6 million here, or $6 million in California (UCLA + Remaining NFL contract) other than where he wants to be?

Where he wants to be - a familiar west coast Pac 12 culture, LA etc. vs. north Fla., the SEC and a brand new learning/relationship curve. All of that was worth the taxes etc. to him.

Just guessing...

Coaches salaries going from ridiculous speed to ludicrous speed have no bearing on the difficulty of an AD's job.

Salaries have stayed close to proportional vs the average man and vs the cost of goods. Salaries have stayed close to proportional amongst the haves and have nots of cfb.

What is the milquetoast whining about? Do the job you are being overpaid to do (facespacing, mybooking, and twitting all day if you ask'78) and quit b1tchin, damnation.

I was not happy when Kelly and Frost "didn't want our job." I thought at the time that the whole "process" was a BS dog and pony show intended to appease the yokels (that would be us) while setting up DM to come in and "save" us from our own highly deplorable selves. As the smoke clears and some time has passed, it still sort of feels that way. But as others have already noted, DM jumped on the job and he's our guy for better or worse. In all fairness, although DM ain't no Porsche, he' not a total loser like the three hired by the worst FB AD in history. And in general, he is seemingly off to a pretty strong start.

Yeah, I started with a decidedly "mehhhhhhh" position on DM. His enthusiasm and early results have helped.

I was completely stoked when we hired SOS and CUM.... felt like we had the tiger by the tail and that championships were inevitable. It tried to convince myself that the Dwag would work out if he had the right OC. McFvkkup and Zook, zeros from the get go.

I'm still not really sure with DM. I don't really imagine future championships but I wonder how much of that is just trauma from the past 9 years.

Seems like "first instinct" is usually the correct one.

Call me stupid, this seems to be a pretty reasonable assessment of the landscape today. What did you want him to say? I am superman. By sheer force of will and my personality, I can say we are Florida and get anybody I want. I don't think it works that way anymore.
I wanted to him sell UF like his life depended on it. I wanted him to watch GlenGary GlenRoss ten times in a row and then call the guy back and seal the deal. I wanted him to make Kelly an offer he couldn't refuse.

Are you out of your f'ing mind? Of course salaries have a bearing on hiring coaches and add to the difficulty of doing so. Proportional to the average man?!?!? Coaches salaries have doubled every 5 years or so for the last 10-15 years.

What kind of car would we say Coach Mullen is?

You sound like you have your feet on the ground. Have you been seeing someone? Going to support groups?

Salaries are getting more ludicrous. Admittedly. please read the post you just quoted genius. But stricklin's job is not any harder comparatively speaking. The guy (arnsparger) that convinced sos to come here, now he had a tough job.

The guy that gave butters an extension, shirked his duties if you ask me. And what simple duties they were.

The guy who didn't immediately go after his#1 choice due to the queasiness in his widdle tumtum cuz it might hurt his old school's feelings .... again shirked his simple duties.

Quit giving me this crap about how hard the AD position at uf is. It's stupid. He's stupid for trying to give that impression. you're stupid for buying it and being a stricklin shill. Shut up and do your job. Stop whining about the AD job here. You left your alma mater to be here. We know it's a great job to have. Quit trying to convince us otherwise.
