Florida a legitimate threat to flip Maryland commit Noah Boykin

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-recruiting-threat-noah-boykin

Florida is working to land a quality cornerback for the 2018 class and has set its sights on Maryland commit Noah Boykin.

The 4-star recruit from Woodson H.D. High School (Washington D.C.) had an in-home visit Sunday with Florida coach Dan Mullen, defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, cornerbacks coach Charlton Warren and linebackers coach Christian Robinson. The staff secured his final official visit and will host him on campus this weekend.

Trying a flip a Maryland pledge from the D.C. area is no small task, but the Gators have a legitimate chance. Boykin committed to the Terrapins last summer, but he has been wavering on that pledge for the last few months and did not sign early in December.

In addition to Maryland, Boykin has officially visited Notre Dame, Southern Cal and Virginia. With Florida up next, proximity to home doesn’t appear to be a deciding factor in Boykin’s recruitment.

Despite his current pledge, I think the Gators have a better shot with Boykin than their other targets at the position. Florida recently offered top-50 overall recruits Olaijah Griffin and Isaac Taylor-Stuart, but the California cornerbacks will be tough to land this late in the game.

The fact that Mullen went with three assistants to see Boykin tells you how much of a priority he is to the staff. Warren recruited Boykin last year when he was coaching at Tennessee, so they have some history heading into this weekend.

The Gators’ need at cornerback. and their “DBU” tradition — which includes DMV-area products Joe Haden and Jalen Tabor — makes Florida an appealing option for Boykin. If his visit goes well in Gainesville, it could be enough to sway him.

On Wednesday, Maryland offered 4-star CB Taiyon Palmer, which could be an indication of where the Terrapins think they stand with Boykin. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound prospect is ranked as the nation’s No. 33 cornerback in the 247Sports composite.

Already given up. Rather sad.

They had 3 times the talent we did in 2016 and we crushed them like bugs.

No, what's rather sad is our QB room. What's rather sad is the fact that Feleipe Franks will probably take more snaps than any other QB for us next year. What's rather sad is our DT's heading into next year where we have numerous players that can clog the middle but we have no one who can get a steady push from the three technique. What's rather sad is that we got Martez Ivey back and even with a senior-laden OL we probably had an OL this past year that was nearly the worst OL in the SEC...and that was supposed to be our biggest strength...what's rather sad is our strength and conditioning program before Mullen came in. What's rather sad is our special teams...and our two biggest bright spots (Pineiro and Townsend) from that unit are gone. Our kickoff returns were awful. Our punt returns were awful. Our rush against a punt was awful.

I love the direction we've started going in under Mullen. He has already started to unravel the good majority of what I posted above, but the plain and simple fact is Mullen has a LONG way to go to get us in the national picture again. Mullen has to completely change the culture here. Mac was a players Coach...meaning he gave in to whatever the players wanted. That's why Copeland committed, that's why Corral committed, and that's why Callaway was able to get away with everything while here. That's why there was credit card fraud among multiple players. Our guys got lazy, got out of shape, and no one held them accountable. When our guys got out of shape, the majority of them got hurt and left us short handed in the majority of our games.

Mullen is the man for the job, but he's got a lot of work to do. I think this team is very far away from competing with a mentally-stable team who almost won the title this year. They have WAY more talent than us currently. I don't think Mullen is too far behind Kirby (coaching and recruiting), but it will take him at least one to two years to get us back in the hunt for the SEC east. I just want 7 or 8 wins next year. Remember, that's double the wins we got last year. 8 wins on a team quarterbacked by Franks is a HUGE step in the right direction

I didn't read any of that (didn't know Tolstoy was on the board), but I do know we'll beat UGA this season no matter who the QB is.

For what it's worth, it will be Jones in that game. And we'll have the better QB.

Both Jones and Grier will be present at the Heisman ceremony at the end of the year.

After whiffing on a QB in the early signing period.....and Emory Jones rejecting Alabama for UF, Alabama is scraping the bottom of the barrel for a QB. They're going after a 3-star QB from Arizona:

Brock Purdy, 6'1 197lbs. 57th ranked Pro-style QB, 1676th overall ranking, 18th ranked Arizona recruit. Good stats, has offers from Boise State, UCF, Oregon State, and Iowa State. (Not very Alabama-esque). He's CB'd 57% to Bama, 43% to Boise.

I can't really tell if some of the posts are sarcastic or not but there is no way we are beating Georgia next year. I love the direction we are moving in and I think we can finish with a solid transition class but Georgia is going to finish with even more 5 star players and we just limped to the finish line of a 4-7 season. UGA, a team with a good amount of senior and upper classmen talent, was a play or two away from winning the national title.

Could we give them a good game? I think so. Depends on what happens with Franks/Jones/Trask. Either way, UGA doesn't only have one proven QB, they have Justin Friggin Fields backing him up. UGA is ridiculously talented and we are miles behind in that department when compared to them.

With all of that being said, let's finish this class with some OL and DL talent. I want to see us fill up in the trenches. If we can somehow finish with Gouraige, NPF, Barnes, and Montilus, I would be ecstatic. I think we'll finish with either Gouraige, Barnes, and Montilus or just Gouraige and NPF. We are becoming depleted on the DL, and we really need an overhaul when moving into a 3-4 defense.

No way?!?

  • Meanwhile, 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong reports that 4-star linebacker Xavier Peters, a Kentucky commit, will take an official visit to Florida. Peters, who is from West Chester, Ohio, is ranked the No. 13 outside linebacker in the Class of 2018 on the 247Sports composite

When was this posted? Thought Peters was off the board due to grades?

Hope this is true

I hope we get this kid:

Chatfield receives visit from Mullen
Mullen and staff visit in-state defender.

https://florida.247sports.com/Artic...lorida-Gators-head-coach-Dan-Mullen-113901188

Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star defensive end Andrew Chatfield received a visit from Florida head coach Dan Mullen, tight ends coach Ja'Juan Seider, and cornerbacks coach Charleton Warren on Thursday. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Chatfield visited Miami last weekend and plans to visit Florida State this coming weekend. The Gators are likely getting a visit from Chatfield one of the two weekends before National Signing Day.

Chatfield was once considered a heavy Florida lean, and then Miami extended an offer. That tender along with Florida's coaching changed swung momentum in the Hurricanes' favor. These final visits will help determine Chatfield's future destination.

The industry generated 247Sports Composite currently ranks Chatfield as the nation's No. 212 overall prospect in the 2018 class.

As long as one of the seven or eight wins is against the leghumpers, then I'll be happy too.

However, if we go 11-1, and that one loss is to the buttsniffers, well then, hello FIREDANMULLEN.COM.

Just beat leghumper.gif .

We've never lost to UGa and continued on to win the SEC. We've never lost to UGa and went on to play in the SECCG.

Just beat

(I know what you mean about the girls school... but the conference is most important. Besides...I think the SOW is in a death spiral. We'll beat them too)
