Florida a legitimate threat to flip Maryland commit Noah Boykin

Florida is working to land a quality cornerback for the 2018 class and has set its sights on Maryland commit Noah Boykin.
The 4-star recruit from Woodson H.D. High School (Washington D.C.) had an in-home visit Sunday with Florida coach Dan Mullen, defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, cornerbacks coach Charlton Warren and linebackers coach Christian Robinson. The staff secured his final official visit and will host him on campus this weekend.
Trying a flip a Maryland pledge from the D.C. area is no small task, but the Gators have a legitimate chance. Boykin committed to the Terrapins last summer, but he has been wavering on that pledge for the last few months and did not sign early in December.
In addition to Maryland, Boykin has officially visited Notre Dame, Southern Cal and Virginia. With Florida up next, proximity to home doesn’t appear to be a deciding factor in Boykin’s recruitment.
Despite his current pledge, I think the Gators have a better shot with Boykin than their other targets at the position. Florida recently offered top-50 overall recruits Olaijah Griffin and Isaac Taylor-Stuart, but the California cornerbacks will be tough to land this late in the game.
The fact that Mullen went with three assistants to see Boykin tells you how much of a priority he is to the staff. Warren recruited Boykin last year when he was coaching at Tennessee, so they have some history heading into this weekend.
The Gators’ need at cornerback. and their “DBU” tradition — which includes DMV-area products Joe Haden and Jalen Tabor — makes Florida an appealing option for Boykin. If his visit goes well in Gainesville, it could be enough to sway him.
On Wednesday, Maryland offered 4-star CB Taiyon Palmer, which could be an indication of where the Terrapins think they stand with Boykin. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound prospect is ranked as the nation’s No. 33 cornerback in the 247Sports composite.
