There's a possibility I might take a job in Miramar (maybe for a year or two). Though I was born in the Keys, I haven't lived anywhere in South FL in decades, so I have no idea where to look for a place to live. Is Miramar a decent place? Should I live somewhere else in the area, and commute? I know it is crowded as hell down there, but I've lived in LA, so I'm not too concerned about traffic and a lot of dumbasses. I'm a single guy, and no kids will be with me, so I'm not concerned about schools either. I wouldn't mind living in a spot where I could walk to dinner in the evenings.

Any suggestions?

Haven’t spent much time down there. Delray is the type of place you’re describing, lots of restaurants and bars in walking distance, but it’s probably a bit far and it’s fairly pricey due to its popularity. Wish I could be more helpful.

Look a bit to the north in Pembroke Pines. Miramar is a bit spotty, shall we say.

Anything along University will have lots of good restaurants.

Sorry to be late arrival to this discussion. As stated earlier, I live just around the corner from where you job is and have been here for several decades.

Just a few thoughts, based on your post:

Traffic sucks and it's getting worse all the time. I'm supposing your job is in the Miramar Park of Commerce, on or near Miramar Parkway and Palm Avenue. If so, there's lot of nice, available housing all around. I recommending renting first to get a feel for the region before putting down deep roots somewhere. You can avoid a long commute

If you really want to live in a walkable community, Weston Town Center downtown Miami Lakes and the new Pembroke Pines City Center are possibilities. So is Pembroke Gardens. If you don't mind a 30 to 45 minute drive to work, downtown Hollywood is a possibility too. Just realize the farther west you go, the newer the neighborhoods and the less likely it is you'll find a walk able situation.

Besides the traffic, people are standoffish or downright pushy until you get to know them. Remember that nearly everyone down here is from somewhere else, so there's a lack of civic pride and initial trust. It takes longer to get to know others.

Now the good parts - there's always so much to do and lots of interesting people of all types to do them with, once you get to know some folks. And the weather is the best in the state. The family and I have enjoyed the diversity and the million things to do. It's a great place to be young.

Post to this thread with questions - I promise to check it often in the next few days. Let me know how I can help.

I'm sure most of the people here would hate you too, alcoholica.

El sureste de Florida es un agujero de mierda

I'm sure you'll understand that, since it's in your area's primary language.

You obviously don’t know the difference between neighborhood and area, when referenced to a specific geographical area. So for the slow people, SE FL is a shythole

And like the true bigoted ignoramus you are, you painted a wildly inaccurate broad brush stroke over an area that stretches from Dade to Palm Beach County.

Did I offend you? Well there is plenty of safe spaces in your blue counties. The whole place is bipolar. You rich pretentious *******s on one side and 3rd world thuggery on the other with a common thread of entitlement running throughout. Not to mention you are the fraud capital of the US and genuinely just a pain in the ass to deal with. So yes it is a shythole. And if you don’t like it, go cry to someone that gives a fcck. Matter go create your own State if you want. It can be call whatever you want, but the rest of Florida will just call it an improvement

Alcoholica speaking out on bipolarism. The irony is thick.

Reading comprehension isn’t your thing, I understand. Deflection from your area of the state being a shythole, I understand that too.

Strange, given my very Anglo family has had a wonderful experience in South Florida for the last 35 years. Raised two fine sons (one who is a major in the Air Force Reserve, btw) and have never wanted for friends OR fun. Had a great career. Wifey is a community leader in health and fitness. We're surrounded by people from all cultures who we appreciate and who appreciate us.

Guess it's what you bring to the table that makes or breaks a lifestyle. If you bring a lot of anger, you're going to generate anger and self loathing wherever you are.
