Will Ole Miss go after Mike White? Do you care if they do?

I have my concerns about Coach White, but he might still have a great career at UF. However, I wouldn’t be too upset about losing him if SS can guarantee Billy’s immediate return.

From the official Ole Miss Men's Basketball website:

Eleven postseason wins, eight postseason berths, nine 20-win seasons, two NCAA Tournament appearances, two NIT Final Fours, two SEC West titles and an SEC Tournament Championship later, the two-time SEC Coach of the Year has cemented his name throughout the Rebel record book as the winningest coach in school history.

Unreasonable expectations, every organization has some.
Not only has Kennedy left his mark on Ole Miss, but the college basketball in the SEC. Some notable accomplishments by Kennedy as a head coach include:

  • Fourth-most wins in SEC history by a coach in his first 11 years in the league at one school (234)
  • One of five coaches in SEC history to post at least nine 20-win seasons in first 11 years in the league, joining Billy Donovan (Florida), Joe B. Hall (Kentucky), Nolan Richardson (Arkansas) and Tubby Smith (Kentucky)
  • Only coach in SEC history to post 11 consecutive winning seasons after taking over a program coming off four straight losing seasons
  • One of eight active head coaches with 12 or more consecutive winning seasons to start career: Jim Boeheim (41), Roy Williams (29), Tom Izzo (22), Mark Few (18), Jamie Dixon (14), Sean Miller (13), Andy Kennedy (12), Dave Rose (12)

How does Ole Miss think they are going to find anyone that could do any better for their program than AK?

I wasn't impressed with White initially. Too much helter skelter offense with no rhyme or reason. Then things came together toward the end of last season and we made a strong tourney run. This year we're back to the same old same old. But there are possible reasons for those problems. I don't know what to make of him at this point. A late season push this year or a decent run next year will tell the tale for me. Until then, jury's out.

White to Duke is comedy gold. Duke will promote Capel, or bring back Wojo or Collins when K retires.

I still say it wouldn't shock me if Duke or UNC make a push for Billy D when K and Roy retire.

As for White, if he leaves for Old Piss, he truly is a dumbass, and we don't want him here anyway.

I agree completely. No way a sane person leaves UF for Mississippi.

His Dad is AD at Duke... I don't think he can go there until Daddy retires.. besides Duke already has their next coach on staff.

They could steal a page from Bowden's book and have the basketball coach report to the football coach who reports to the AD........

Not taking any personal feelings about a place or a draw for someone, I have to think there are plenty of Mike White's and Andy Kennedy's out there. Kennedy is an okay coach and had a respectable run at Ole Piss and White is an okay coach, but okay coaches are everywhere. No coach is going to win every game, nor will his team play well every game. But if Mike ever left I would love to find a coach where after each game, win or lose, I can say those players look like they are well coached, know what they are doing and are sound in the basic ABC's of the game.

GWG, when Coach K leaves Duke, I understand the names you mentioned, but disagree with those ex Duke players as HC there. The guy to keep your eye on is Bobby Hurley and the experience he is gaining at ASU. They are getting better each year. However I think his brother, Danny, is a better coach. He is doing a nice job at URI and did a good job at a small eastern school that slips my mind before that.

But if you want to talk big names at Duke or UNC when they come open, I understand the Billy D thing, but let me tell you the hottest name in that genre is Brad Stevens. If he ever decides the NBA is not his cup of tea, he is far and away #1 on any top 10 basketball program's list!

Not a slam dunk with White. He's predominantly frustrating. He does not coach up weaknesses ... so we flop when our strengths falter.??

Idk how I would feel. Pumper part of me says let White keep building. Dumper part says if he goes to Ole Miss I won't be mad. But if Billy D stays in OKC which I think he will another season then we are left out in the cold to get who? Didn't we try to get Greg Marshall before and struck out with him? Archie Miller was a hot name at the time at Dayton but he stayed out midwest and went to Indiana. Who is the shoe in name that you want to get if White leaves?? There really aren't any unless its the hot new up and coming head coach. So it might be bargain bin time again...

White hasn't been at UF long enough to be desired elsewhere. Surely an SEC team could steal better?
or equal.

Why is it that Mick Cronin can't ever get mentioned for a somewhat big job in a better conference. Is it b/c he is like 5'3" and does not look like he has ever played basketball? Cincy was shunned by the ACC and now play in the whatever conference. But Cronin wins pretty consistently there and his team this year seems to be able to score the ball a little better than his past teams. Yes I know UF beat them early, but they have ripped off like 20 in a row or 18 of 19 or whatever. The point is they have not ridden the roller coaster or seesaw like most teams have, especially this year. I think he is a pretty decnt coach and has competed across conferences in his years.
