You and I are on the same page with this. I’m surprised Moon hasn’t taken a step forward yet.

JT Is one of many “diamonds in the rough” that Mac and co. tried to sell us on.

I can’t recall, but I think you had said in an earlier thread that you thought safety was in pretty good hands. Personally, I think FS is a disaster. I think we are in desperate need of an elite FS.

Do you think Jaleel McRae may be the solution?

Moon was a redshirt freshman last year, so it's probably too early to write him off. He definitely needs to get over 240lbs, especially w/ his height.

Going into last year I was worried about the youth of the defense - similar to 2007 albeit with less talent. At least they have some game experience and film to work from.

My hope for this year is the flexibility of some of these guys will, at least early, make it easier to mask who is rushing etc. and maybe cover up some of the depth issues.

Thinking back, one of the most surprisingly position changes was Ahmad Black going from meh CB & solid special teams guy to undersized but incredibly effective, championship play-making S.

There are not many players who opponents would see as real trouble today. This all frames my modest expectations for them as a unit this fall, but it won’t take much to improve on 2017.

I think that class of raw but undiscipline DBs last year has the talent to be really good with some proper coaching, which, as you said, they’ve yet to receive. Henderson alone had 2 pick-6’s in his Fr year and should’ve had a 3rd. With a real S&C program, some actual pressure up front, and a full offseason of coaching, I think they’ll surprise.

LB is an area that’s scary regardless of how you slice it. Hopefully they excel also under the new DC and system, but I still think we’re just not overly talented there. We really need the DL to overperform so that we’re not depending on this group too much.

I didn't realize Chauncey was such a highly rated CB coming out of high school. Makes me think he ought to be playing CB instead of safety.
