You folks that hate him are just assuming he’s still running the show. I’ve been impressed with Stricklin thus far and he doesn’t seem to be a guy that would’ve left his last gig to become Foley’s puppet. Him showing his support is just pissing some of you off. It’s not affecting anything other than your emotions.

Before you attach the "hater" tag to my name, or to that of anyone else for that matter, please allow me to clarify your apparent misunderstanding of the point that I, and others, have made repeatedly in this forum. I do not "hate" Foley personally. I do however hate what happened to the FB program under his stewardship. IMO, he single-handedly crippled a great program with one shortsighted, ill-considered decision after another. His abject failure in not one but three catastrophic hires, coupled with his refusal to upgrade facilities until we had fallen so far behind we may never catch up is what I "hate." And for the record, I'm not suggesting that he be lynched, or drawn and quartered or made to walk the plank. I just want to see him gracefully step aside and allow the new staff and AD to take center stage, in the manner of that great Gator Ray Graves.

I don't care if he goes to games (by buying a ticket and sitting in the stands) and wears all the Gator gear he wants to. He has no business in the offices or even one shred of influence with anyone currently working in the department.

His massive failures were well documented even before Butters, but the fact is that the hiring and (even more importantly) OVERSEEING of Jim McElwain was so bungled that Foley should have been fired, much less been able to stick around and act like he's still the AD. He KNEW the job Mac was doing and did NOTHING. He oversaw the decline of the football program and just turned a blind eye, because he couldn't bear to think that he made another awful hire.

As far as I'm concerned, he is 100% responsible for the 8-year freefall and the total destruction of the Gator brand.

I couldn't agree more. Well said.

Let's face, Fooley is the main reason we are bottom feeders in the facility department and other important things. He obviously never understood the importance of football to the sports economy. If I never saw him anywhere near the university again it would be to soon. The most overated AD in history.

THAT Fckup set the table for Urban (who i lOVE to this day) with all that GREAT talent he left that were HUGE in that first URban title,......................NOBODY was gonna follow and replace SOS. He set the bar so high a fckn eagle would struggle to get that high., Zooker gave us what he had. He was the transition coach and succeeded in that, He brought in great players and was robbed in a few games. And embarrassed shT out of FSU with that last win there.
Zooker loaded that roster with gators that won us hardware...........

So you're saying no one else could have done what Zook did? Recruiting right as the Spurrier era ended was not difficult. The brand was sky-high.

I really doubt that his financial conservatism was not his alone, I bet that those in power agreed with that policy. Now at this time it appears to have been a mistake, but in a few years it might look very good. Time will tell.

Pray tell how it is going to look good.

Funny how the ones crying and complaining the loudest about money sports don’t even attend games or contribute money. :scratchchin:

And whoever the imbecile was who said he’s hogging the camera, he was in a back tunnel of the arena congratulating players as they came off the court. How is that camera hogging? :dunno:

Good outcome but an unintended consequence. Foley hired Zook to win, not set the table.

It wasn’t just the recruiting, it was the just correct amount of incompetence to get fired EXACTLY when he did, so that Meyer would be the next coach. The Zook years were worth every agonizing second, and I wouldn’t change a thing about them. Even the Swindle in the Swamp was worth it due to whet followed.

Sometimes unintended consequences work out better than intended ones
As it worked out, yes. At the time I recall thinking WTF when our goal shifted from Shanahan to Zook. It felt like falling off the side of a cliff.

I felt the same way. I remember thinking “His next flight was to New Orleans? There’s no way he’s offering Zook this job”

It was right then that we found out just how dangerous Foley's mind could work.

You know as well as I do the only person that would follow SOS either #1 had balls as big as basketballs or #2 did not realize the enormity of it. Zook was probably a little of both. Some people are not made up to be HBC but can still be good at many of the other things that help a team. I will always give him credit for that talent he brought in.

I hear you got the horns yesterday. You been a bad boy again. Where is your restraint, your humility, your "sorry sir may I have another" in the presence of power? :snicker:

No I just come right back and it’s business as usual. Ox couldn’t handle the burn and threw a ban tantrum, a bantrum if you will. Not the first time, won’t be the last. Opposing viewpoints are his kryptonite.
