I think it should be Emory Jones. It's time to move on from the last decade of poor offense. Try again to start fresh. Franks and Trask are there for back up if Jones gets hurt. We know what we're getting from the other two. Franks is gonna make make 10 bad plays and 1 good one. Trask is serviceable I guess. Jones gives you a better running threat.
I was looking for Trask to be at least a threat to run and it doesn't look like he can do that. That option is the entire key to this offense. It doesn't work if the defense doesn't believe the QB is gonna run. How many plays yesterday did y'all see where the QB play action to the RB? It happened a lot. The key to this offense is the QB running. It has to be Jones. Franks is athletic enough to cover ground and he looks like he's willing to keep it on that option. But he will lose us games for sure. He will throw picks, hold it too long and get sacked or stripped.
I really doubt Mullen starts a true freshman. I'm betting he starts Franks because of his ability. It should be Jones though.

I agree totally. I voted for Franks as I believe he will start but misinterpreted the poll. I really think Jones should start. More and more freshmen are beginning to start at QB. Why wait? At worst get him PT in the first few games then unleash him against Tennessee. Let’s get the playmakers on the field. We don’t have the luxury of slowly developing players.

We need to put some weight on Jones and get him up to speed fast. He is our best option, unless we can get Burrows. Then you could redshirt Jones.

It's possible, given more practice-time, that Franks, Trask, Jones click with the offense-variety to come out more than the sum of its parts. It's gonna come down to if our defense can thwart opposing offenses. And that'll relate to stamina, strength and conditioning plus enthusiastic motors the likes of which no Gator opponent has seen in 10 years. My hope stays 'til proved otherwise.

I think Trask is a better runner than anyone here is giving him credit for. Not a great runner but good enough to keep defenses honest. At least as good Franks. We didn't get a chance to see him run in the O&B game which is kind of a head scratcher. But he ran pretty well in the last O&B game.

PS - Glad to see you've recovered from the lizard uniform thread.

I say Trask. Jones is exciting and I think we're in great shape for the future, I just don't know that he's going to be ready by the fall. Trask looked better than Franks imo and as Mullen said, he doesn't have to be a gifted runner, he just has to be willing to if called or if that's what the defense gives him. He's not going to break an 80 yard run but he should be able to manage to pick up 6 yards when needed for a first down if the D leaves it open. As many others have said, Franks is Franks and frankly that scares me.

As for Burrows, if we end up pursuing him, then Trask and Franks should never see the field in a Florida uniform again. To me that says Mullen doesn't think he can win with them and if Burrows falls through and we don't get him then Jones should be the guy. Let him learn on the job, take a couple losses this year and have that much more experience going into his sophomore year.

That will absolutely send a message to these guys that they aren't trusted and they should probably transfer.

I saw today that Trask only completed 50% of his passes. While at times he looked better than Franks, Franks ended up having better stats. Yes I know that stats can be deceiving, but Trask was too inconsistent in his accuracy to usurp Franks as the starter. A guy not known for his running ability needs to be an exceptional passer to have any success in this offense (i.e., Leak). Trask is average at best and simply showed that he could be a decent backup. His only chance to be the starter is if he consistently has a 65-70% completion percentage or starts running over guys in practice. He's a big dude, but I have no idea how strong he is.

I know we all want something different because Franks is Franks, but he's the guy for this year unless he gets hurt because Trask simply isn't any better and Jones isn't ready and probably won't be for another year. Jones has the most potential of the three and eventually will be the best QB, but overall he looked like a third string QB Saturday, which is fine because he's a freshman.

I disagree that Franks is better. He's awful.

I also think Jones is ready - throw his ass in there. Other schools play true freshman QB's all the time - why does it seem so far fetched?

Not sold on Franks in any way shape or form. One spring game. He'll shyt the bed again against SEC teams.

Franks isn't good and he didn't look much better this spring compared to last year, but Trask also didn't play any better than Franks. He's too inconsistent.

Jones is too small and wouldn't last 3 SEC games with this offense and this O-line blocking for him. He also had his share of mistakes (remember the bad INT?) that showed he still has a ways to go. Fortunately for him some broken coverage padded his stats in the spring game. Next year though, he'll likely earn the starting job.

Trask shows upside potential. Franks is already topped out.

If you can't see that then you're related.
