Yeah. Theres really no excuse to tell your slam dunk recruits to go out and enjoy the process. We should have pushed hard this weekend with a few of these kids

Who cares where the rankings are now...I like to see where the rankings are the first Wednesday in February. At least wait until the camp circuit comes and goes this summer before the endless bitchfest

Rivals Mike take:
Franks running wild –

Feleipe Franks
ran for two scores and threw for another and looked like a much improved quarterback already under Dan Mullen. He has some competition for the starting job, but maybe he will hold off
Kyle Trask
and
Emory Jones
and turn into the standout many felt he could become out of high school. He certainly has the physical ability.

Buckeyes QB decision – It was supposed to be

Dwayne Haskins
and everyone else and it still could be, but after impressive performances from
Joe Burrow
and
Tate Martell
the Ohio State quarterback battle could be closer than some think. Urban Meyer, of course, is playing it up as if it’s not a done deal but I still think Haskins is the guy, but the depth at quarterback in Columbus is impressive

Is this kid someone we're after? I don't recall the name...

Edit: I just looked him up....he's a 2020 kid. Much like many of our 2020 kids and all 2020 kids who have already committed...he decommitted.

I understand taking the commit (from the school's standpoint), but it's gotta be annoying when a 2020 kid wants to commit this early. I'm sure one of these services tracks this, but I'd guess the decommit rate has to be 50% or more.

Obviously Mike did not watch the games.

Is James Franklin an average recruiter? PSU has two 3-star recruits and nothing else to date....

So it was our average recruiters that pulled EJ away from Urbs? It was our average recruiters that pulled Langham away from Bammer, and Chatfield away from the U? Why didn't Dean go to the poodles, bammer, the holes, etc? Why did our average recruiters finish 7 spots ahead of MSU's despite having 5 less players, and why did they have the 7th highest average star rating? Again, it's 8 months (nod to BMF) to the first signing day and 10 months til we know who exactly who will be in this class. You're correct, moral victories are a joke, but getting them on campus and creating excitement aren't moral victories, they're the start of a process of landing top recruits.

Tell you what, if you think MSU has better recruiters, I'll bet you a crappy avatar, banishment from this site or whatever you want that UF finishes with a higher ranked class than MSU. Let's go, traz, put your money where your mouth is.

I asked this some time ago and never really got a satisfactory answer.....so what constitutes a "good recruiter"?
How exactly is that determined (other than from results, i.e. bringing in elite players)? It would be nice to have a more tangible measuring stick as to how to define an elite recruiter.

Does it mean they "relate" to players, they speak young guy lingo, they're hip, they're happenin'? Are they just likeable, outgoing, affable? Do they make players (and more importantly, their parents) comfortable? Are they good communicators? Or are they just good salesmen, saying what people want to hear at any given moment? In essence, BS artists?

I know every school would like to have a staff populated by guys who are both good coaches and good recruiters. Doesn't happen often. Based on some of the stories coming out of Gainesville, that UF players are having to learn the building block basics of football (how to assume the proper stance, etc.) it would seem that good coaching is the most pressing issue for right now. I'm sure even that's debatable since we have a roster that contains a good portion of sub-SEC talent level players. Meaning the argument could be made that we need an influx of five star players more than we need to coach them up.

Imo, a good recruiter, like a good salesman, can close the deal. That is what Urban, and Saban, et al do well. I worry that Dan can't.
