This is pretty sobering and makes you hate Foley that much more!

“I’ve said I think Dan Mullen is going to win a title down there, and I really believe that,” Cubelic said before dropping the hammer. “But I think it is much more of a rebuild than any of us want to believe. I think we look at what Jeremy [Pruitt] has got at Tennessee, that’s a rebuild. We look at what Jimbo [Fisher] has [at Texas A&M] and what [Joe] Moorhead has in Starkville, not so much of a rebuild as much as it something the probably need to come in and remold a little bit. This is closer to a rebuild in Gainesville than a lot of people believe.”

Before you go getting angry at Cubelic for suggesting the mighty Gators may need a few years to get things right under Mullen, you should probably consider what he says next. His explanation is sobering, and a clear indictment of the Jim McElwain regime which sputtered to a 4-7 finish in 2017.

“I talked to [Gators co-offensive coordinator] John Hevesy, I talked to [Gators special teams coordinator] Greg Knox, I talked to Dan Mullen,” Cubelic said. “They all talked about ‘we’re starting over.’ They went back to base fundamentals — how to get in a stance, how to line up, steps on a route, when to break off a route, I mean basic, fundamental football stuff that apparently those players had gotten away from and didn’t really have a great concept of.

This is sadly not surprising news. We’ve been a pile of manure for years now. I guess the fact that it can’t really get that much worse is somewhat pleasant? Otherwise, it’s just depressing how far we’ve fallen in every single facet of football.

And yet.....

Mac got a $7.5 million buyout. It's beyond belief.

Will Duncap destroyed the offense and Butters finished off the defense.

Half of our roster is Sunbelt or worse.
There is no denying how bad this is.

Its crazy talk but there are a bunch of bubble blowers who think "we just need a QB."

Best AD in the history of organized sports. He walked on water. He did no wrong. Like you could do better? How many 2nd place director's cups do we have. Football isn't everything. Look at Women's Lacrosse! You think any AD could build something so profound? It's a shame he never got to fulfill his dream of a rifle team. Probably our stupid fans that ran him off like we ran Meyer and SOS off.

This is where an Emory Jones and Jalon Jones come in to play. With their talent, and proper coaching, they will be able to take over games and beat teams with more talent. I rewatched EJ in the spring game. The kid is an explosive runner. He'll put a hell of a lot of pressure on opposing defenses and get high schoolers truly talking about UF again. That's assuming he is halfway decent as a passer.

I'm glad Cubelic made these statements. It seems there's an unwritten rule to not bash the last guy too much. I wish more of the media/former players/'insiders', etc would come out and speak about the issues under Butters. At least Muschamp made an effort and worked hard - he just shouldn't have been hired to run a program OJT.

Like Ox, I'm disgusted by the $7.5 million pay out. But what's bothered me since it happened was the raises/extensions that Nord, Nussmeir, and McElwain got. Why? The UAA knew what was going on. They knew the program was being run into the ground. But they gave out raises/extensions? WTF?? Heads should have rolled down there...but instead, you get all the bloviating non-sense about how great everything is. The day Foley made the "...we're not getting into an arms race." comments he should have been let go. I hope Stricklin got a reprimand placed in his file over the raises/extensions, regardless if Foley negotiated them before he took over - Stricklin should have stepped in and said, "Oh!! HELL NO!!"

The only ones that will be surprised by this are those who believe we’ve got 10 wins in the team. Hell, even 8 wins is a joke yet somehow the Pumpers think it’s a sure thing.

Not to beat a dead horse (which means I'm about to), but do you suppose Foley made an effort to draw a consensus on Mac before selling his soul?

If he did, you would think the word whackjob would have been repeated over and over.

Stricklin? It's as unbelievable that he extended Mac less than a year ago as Mac walking away with 7.5 large.

I think we need more than a QB to be a playoff team. I don't think we need more than a QB to easily win the East with a schedule like this.

You act like UF is the only team in the SEC that has problems. The conference is loaded with hurting teams at the moment.

This is a mystery that will likely never be cleared up. It actually appears that neither Foley or Stricklin was actually overseeing the program, or else those extensions never would have taken place. None of the coaches were actually coaching....and they get raises?

I'm guessing you have us losing to teams like Kentucky. That's not happening.

I’ve already been on record with this. Said last was the year Kentucky should have got it done. Won’t happen this year.

I’m guessing you have us winning the East?

So you are claiming UF's roster is far worse than the recruiting services rated the class?

So we think that our team of players who have played many years of football can't learn the basics fairly quickly? Sure the past coaches were idiots, but if these players want to have success and a career in the NFL they will rapidly learn the basics, even if they have to practice all off season. I expect improvements in the basics to result in improved play which will get somewhat better results. Now a NC is not in the offering this or next year, a quality effort and a bowl victory will suffice.
