What Bird said after MJ torched the eventual champion Celtics for 63 in the first round on 04/20/86.

Ran on a treadmill next to him at Golds one time and chatted very briefly. He’s human, but there is a different aura about him that I’ve never seen in other celebs or athletes.

And while I realize the game has changed, when you consider his ability, brains and drive, there isn’t no doubt in my mind that he’d own the league today as much as he did back then.

Interestingly, the only time in my life I've seen Jordan in person was at a 1994 minor league baseball game.

What no one ever mentions is that the Bulls lost that game.
They did, in OT. They were a rag-tag mix of drugged-out and aging veterans (Quintin Daily, Orlando Woolridge, George Gervin) and youngsters (Charles Oakley, John Paxson). A really bad roster.

Jordan broke a bone in his foot near the start of the year and missed most of the season. The Bulls' brass wanted to sit him through the playoffs. Michael would have nothing of it.

When you talk about the things that made him great, competitiveness was always near the top.

Saw him and the Bulls against the Hawks in a '92 preseason matchup at the Trop. The thing that stood out most about Jordan was how fluid his game was. His movement was like art.

Woolridge was still young and was the big shot of that team before Jordan. It was Jerry Krause (aka Jabba the Krause) that wanted Jordan to sit out because he was terrified of his meal ticket getting hurt worse.

Michael hated Krause, went out of his way to denigrate him. Coined the nickname Crumbs. Others called him Sleuth because he fancied himself a great judge of talent after working as a baseball scout.

The game has changed A LOT since MJ played.

Very true. Jordan was a ball hog dick that game. Had he passed the ball more and gotten his teammates more involved, the Bulls would have won. MJ was selfish and cost them that game, whether people choose to believe that or not. Fcvking glory boy.

And this never gets old...

If you let it play Bird's is right after...love it when he tells all of Boston..."There's only one place I'd rather be...French Lick." Epic.

I was 13 and watched that VHS tape a thousand times. For the rest of my life I can’t hear those songs without thinking of those players.

Seriously, with the game on the line, in whose hands did you want the ball?

Orlando Woolridge, 9-for-27 for the game?
Dave Corzine, a tall stiff?
Charles Oakley, who had a bad shot as a rook?
Kyle Macy?

Maybe Pax off the bench, but he was a spotup jump shooter. He couldn't create his own space.

No way the Bulls, 30-52 on the regular season, take the champion Celtics to OT without Jordan shooting the ball again and again

BTW, he was .537 from the field that afternoon.

You just taught me something I didn't know. The 63 point game was a playoff game.

The Bulls qualified for the damn playoffs with a 30-52 record? WTF? That's what you get when 8 out of 11 teams in a conference make the playoffs. It's too many.

The Bulls were 8-33 on the road that season.

They were a horrible basketball team that year. The '87 draft brought Scottie Pippen via trade with Seattle and Horace Grant.

The team got immediately more athletic and better on defense, the latter of which was a staple of all the Bulls' championship teams but esp the earlier ones.

Assistant John Bach coined the nickname Dobermans to describe Jordan, Pippen and Grant on defense. Those three could get after the ball.

Another reason MJ was so freaking amazing. He was a true two-way player.. His defense was underrated.
