I'm just practical enough to not continue banging my head into a wall in hopes that people who grow up in a society that glorifies drug use will choose to take a different path merely because it might help my team win.

This is the crux of the matter.

When guys like Snoop Dog, who is a proud Crip, "former" drug dealer, has been arrested for homicide, is stoned 24/7, is a self described pimp and makes porn videos, is held up as some kind of lovable stoner to admire and look up to you know you have a severe societal problem. What are you telling kids when a guy like that is allowed to run a youth football league? And of course there's "Uncle Luke" down in Miami. The problem is everyone is scared to death to point out the obvious.

Calloway's a dumbass who will never see the light. But he's never really had a chance. He's been indoctrinated with this foolishness from birth.

Agree. I find it hilarious that in one breath some will routinely bash the players who fail drug tests, rail against them for letting their team down, lament about the embarrassment to the University and money that was foolishly lost because of smoking weed...and in the next talk about how excited they are to hear Snoop is going to be at Gator Growl.

We've confused these young men to the point that I'm not even sure they ever had a chance.

Cmon guys. Weed has been portrayed as “cool” by musicians and celebrities for over 40 years. This isn’t anything new. The kid is a dumbass and he’ll pay the price for his lack of work ethic and common sense...as he should.

No, no, you’ve got it all wrong. Weed wasn’t cool till Snoop Dogg. We owe this all to him.

Very good post. I believe that it should be legal for a variety of reasons but there’s a big difference between taking a hit relax and being stoned 24/7. How in the hell could people like that could ever run a youth football league is beyond me.

Legalizing pot should have huge societal implications. It would keep young Black boys and men out of prison and would allow them to enter the military. The military does not allow anybody to come in who has a drug distribution offense on their record. The majority of these kids are getting hit for pot. The military can bring structure to their lives that their families and communities are not offering and help to bring kids out of these neighborhoods and stymie the cycle.

That being said, Callaway is an idiot.

Neither of these reflect what I posted. I stated what I believe to be a measure of hypocrisy that we'd roast a player for smoking weed, while glorifying an artist who does the same thing. I'm not sure anyone could disagree that it's confusing.

And no I don't lay all our troubles at the feet of Snoop or anyone else, nor did insinuate that. But again, we tout people who openly glorify drugs, gangs and disrespect for women, all while acknowledging that such things are plaguing society in general--particularly certain cultures--but can't put the pieces together. You're probably right, no connection.

The potheads always come out of the woodwork to defend that drug in these threads. If Nav was here he’d be melting down. They will defend that drug harder than their own children.

It’s disturbing.

How about instead of your solution if they don't pass the drug test their scolly is voided and they can't stay in school. If you can't avoid a drug you surely are not dedicated or involved enough to be a success at much of anything.

Great plan until the team has five losses because you kicked the best players off. Some other school will take them, like the school out west.

Or perhaps your players will understand and conform with the requirements? And yes some other school might take them but not an SEC one. And the "best" players should not be violating the rules in any way.

Great that we don't agree after all this is the internet, not a place where everyone agrees.

There isn’t a team in the SEC who will kick a player off for less than three failed tests. Some school just never have players fail drug tests.

Don’t drag the military into this. It never has been and never will be the military’s job to fix society’s issues. The military is here to kill America's enemies and win our wars. If something doesn’t make the military more combat effective, it shouldn’t be done.
