Let's hope with all the building pieces we still need for Glory seasons, strength is the first to be resolved.
Go Gators!

Not sure going from wimpy nerds to hairless gay men is going to win us championships. More fans in Key West maybe, but not trophies.

A few things stuck out in that article that piss me off.

1) He said the S&C program was more like voluntary stretching and every workout was optional.

How in the hell does someone like Foley lose that much control to a fatass?

2) He also mentioned unlike other schools, we don’t have a gym that is football players only?

Why....why...why?

3) He then referred to our dorms are dated and not made for more than 2 players. Every other school and recruit jokes about them being public housing and nicknamed cell block 6.

I hate Foley, he is the single cause to all this mess!

What article? There's no link anywhere in this thread....just the screen shot in the OP.

A good part of it is training and another good part is the recruiting process. We're taking LB's for the most part who come because they were someone else's plan B... Most HS studs start showing promise in the 9th and 10th grade so the best recruiter's start doing their evaluations then and have started a relationship. They're also trying to do home visits to see genetics of the family for growth potential......laugh all you want about that but a friend of mine(OU fan) used tell me that back in the 70's and 80's Tom Osbourne of Nebraska got word of any 10# plus male baby that was born in the Midwest.....:lol2: It's never too soon to start your recruiting evaluations......
Oh I agree...if your in the coaching profession you have to do your homework thorughly because if u don't you will not have a job very long. Also...only lazy MF's like Mac and that group of has beens he hired don't! Those dudes we're so F'ing lazy on the trail it was unbelievable. If we had a competent AD at the time he would have noticed that because there was"red flags" everywhere! I was on here trying to tell everyone but people kept telling me that "he needed more time to develop relationships":lol:

I think lazy was the key word for Butters and most of his staff....It's OK for a HC to not be thrilled about the recruiting process but if you're not you'd better have a staff full of hard charging, upbeat go getters who can do some serious evaluations while stoking these kids ego's....Shannon and Rumph's lack of effort on the defensive side(2015-2016 recruiting) is going to hurt like hell this year imo....The only thing we can do is hope some of the younger guys develop and take some reps this fall. We've got to build some depth on the DL and find a LB corp early in the season or this sh!t could get ugly....

I agree.. Shannon/Rumph are bums! We'll be ok on D if we stay pretty healthy at DT/LB and By saying "pretty healthy" I mean no season ending injuries. The emergence of Slaton/Conliffe along with Granthams/English's scheme this D will be the complete opposite from the sh*tshow we witnessed last yr. If "Freshman David Reese" can step in early for us watch out!

Lol at how bad Shannon was. I remember pumpers pumping up bell and Shannon were gonna take back SFL. Despite them never really landing elite players. Rumph stole $ at a rate almost as fast as nord, summers and Nuss. Anything linked to Foley should be burned.

I was in that camp. I thought for sure that Bell and Shannon were going to help us.

Nothing.

Only reason we were doing so well in South Florida prior to Mac’s dismissal was because of Seider.

Thanks to MooseDump, Butters, Summers and Brad Davis we have about 4 OL that should have scholarships to SEC schools. The rest are MAC, FAU, FIU, etc. type players. I have been very thankful the past few years that Taylor's Cocoa OL coach taught him how to pass block in HS...

Michigan whipped our asses on the LOS in Dallas last year and looked like champions... then the next week against an ordinary team they looked ordinary... Mullen has a HUGE job ahead of him and he significantly needs to pick up his recruiting efforts...

I agree it should be better. That Randy Shannon drop back and hope they screw up defense was terrible.

I will also say that in the spring game (very limited usefulness admittedly) every time I noticed Ventrell Miller, he was doing something good. He might be that other presence we need inside with the older David Reese.

Me too.

So many turds laid by the last regime. Mullen's margin for error is that much smaller because of them and he seems to have repeated some of Mac's hiring gaffs. We'll see for sure in a couple cycles.

English being here is HUGE for this D. That dude is one hell of a coach and he along with Grantham will turn this D around this season. As for Miller...kid is going to be a stud! We need him or the young Reese to take Vosean's spot ASAP! Vosean is ASS and the sooner someone takes his spot the better.

Vosean is a hitter but he is so undisciplined. Hopefully a little coaching can keep him home.

I think it will be ugly if he is on the field for anything except ST. I also have noticed him putting on weight. Some just dont seem to be buying in.

I too am glad to have English. He is a potential future DC.

Show me the money regarding recruiting though, and Im sure as hell not talking about Cali players.

Here's an actual story on this....

Former Gators player on conditioning program under Jim McElwain: ‘It was a joke’

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/...ning-program-under-jim-mcelwain-it-was-a-joke

Years from now, it will be to everyone’s amazement that Florida was able to win two SEC East division titles under Jim McElwain, whose tenure in Gainesville went from good to extremely bad in a hurry.

One problem that the Gators program suffered from during McElwain’s three years in charge was the strength and conditioning program led by Mike Kent, according to one former Florida player.

“It was a joke. I love Mike Kent to death, one of the best people I have ever met,” the player told InsideTheGators.com. “Great guy, but it was a joke.”

Those issues didn’t seriously become apparent until the 2017 season, when the Gators struggled to a 4-7 record and McElwain was dismissed after making claims of death threats that he could never prove actually happened. With the two SEC East titles in his first two seasons, McElwain seemed like he was a good fit for the program despite the lack of offense, but the underlying issues would come back to haunt the coach and the team.

“Our program wasn’t a serious off-season program,” the player said. “There was no accountability. If you missed a workout, there was no you had to make it up or get up and run the next morning. If you missed a workout, you just missed it. They couldn’t enforce anything, or they wouldn’t, so they started making some things optional. Once you make it optional, what do you think is going to happen? Guys are going to take the option of not showing up.”

This is not the first time that the weakness of the strength and conditioning program under McElwain has been brought to the forefront, as former Gators defensive end Taven Bryan commented on the look of the team now that they are under Nick Savage, who joined new coach Dan Mullen’s staff as the strength coach.

“Savage is an unreal weight coach,” Savage said. “I just want to say that. Just how he changes their bodies. We looked like the Pillsbury Doughboys, and now they’re like swole.”

This is inexcusable and the AD’s should have done something.....and I don’t mean offering extensions. :rolleyes3:

Seems like discipline was the root cause of most of the problems. Also, wonder if Grier took to self supplementing due to the crappy S&C program.
