4-4 vs Arky? Out talented?
4-4 vs Ole Miss? Out talented? Out coached by an interim he is a mouth breather?
0-1 vs University of South Alabammer. Out talented?

We good vs. Kintucky though. We have them for sure. The sole SEC team he has a winning record against.
Sounds like the Gators' win streak vs the Wildcats ought to be safe this year.

We will find out over the next three years. The point is the article states Mullen does more with less but has an abominable record vs ranked teams...which I personally use a measuring stick for a coach that "does more with less". Scott Frost? Did more with less? Agree? Yeah, it is a dead horse. Mullen needs to recruit. He'll have a punchers chance if he can get some studs here.

Of course. I don't trust these fluff, "because because because" offseason articles any more than the ones that have us as the 5th ranked program in the state. It's all just talk at this point.

We're not talking about the 40s and 30s here. I don't give a shyt that Kentucky used to be good. I know they even won an SEC in the 70s. ok

Mullinz landed top 20-25ish talent at Cowbell. He wasnt without talent. He was without wins against teams with similiar talent. This was MOSTLY bc his offense is so predictable you can call the play by the time you see the motion alignments and jersey numbers and can force him to do want by the number of high safeties you show presnap.

I note you've been reasonably quiet on this whole thing. I guess getting your teeth kicked in on your Butterteeth predictions teaches a boy some humility. You should sit this one out.

Look, no one thinks schools like Cowbell or Game Chickens are ever going to play with Bammer and the elites, but Mullinz couldnt beat Arky with two retards coaching and Ole Miss with an interim and with probation looming. Theres no downplaying that.

Well, again, that's simply not in line with the facts. He was 5-4 against Ark. As a program, Msu is 11-16-1 all time against them. Before him, they were 6-12-1.So while I'm not necessarily defending his record against these schools, what I am saying is that he's done as well as anyone else(or better) at a program that has never been more than mediocre.

You say the 70's don't matter, yet hang your entire argument on Sherrill's epic run in the 90's where--even taking out his "stayed too long years" of '01-'03--he was 40-38-1. All said, he was 43-59-1. Ahh, the good times.

Look, you and I are typically fairly aligned on the coaching hires. Until proven otherwise, I'm going to pull for Mullen the same way I pulled for the last two clowns. And yeah, I'll point out the positives while still acknowledging the concerns. Games like last year's Egg Bowl are nearly impossible to defend. And when it's lynch time, I'm, usually the one lighting the torches. But again, whether Mullen wins titles here, or accidentally sets the entire campus on fire, the fact that Msu is a dreadful place to coach, with a dreadful history remains in tact.

He would be an innovative OC.... in some middle schools.

The biggest "mistake", imo, that Mullen has made is bringing too many of his MSU staff w/ him. He should have brought no more than 3 or 4 w/ him and brought in fresh blood/new ideas. Just like his mentor, he needs to evolve and change things up. Not one coach from UF was/is on Meyer's Ohio State staff. That's amazing to me. He hired not one coach he worked with at UF....and went 12-0 (after the team went 6-6 the year before under Fickell).

I think he's doing a fine job otherwise. He was left a sh*t-sandwich by Butters, so I don't expect anything more than a competent football team on the field. I think we lose a couple close games and we may get blown out once or twice. But if he can fix the QB and OL, we should have some hope moving into the future.

Except most of these folks are so invested in their opinions, they don't want hope for the future...

That is the thing though. Until he gets rid of Hevesy and finds someone who can recruit an offensive lineman that does not need 4 years just to develop into a career 2nd teamer, this offense will never excel against even decent defenses. We are going to struggle big time against teams like Tennesse and S Carolina until we can recruit offensive linemen. There is no getting around that reality.

Weird, I dont see Hevesy as even close to being one of the weak points on this staff.

Our OL fell apart when he left and has been utterly useless since the last of his players graduated.

Agree. Ditto Gonzales and the WRs. Tebow’s last year excepted, ditto Mullen & QBs.

Didn’t cowbell lose their starting QB in the first quarter last year in the egg bowl? That would be a challenge to overcome...

And all those other blowouts losses? That was a team on probation with a interim coach who is pushing Ogre for dumbest HC in the country.

And South Alabama?

And 3-29? Got excuses for all those? Keep them handy.

I do not. Those losses are concerning. Doesn’t mean that you should dismiss context in every situation.

I really don’t understand what happened in that South Alabama game - it is inexcusable. I watched it in disbelief. They seemed to give zero ****s until they figured out they might lose. Once that happened, they stormed back and almost won. It was like they had no motivation. Not a good day for Mullen.
