Recruiting Do we play the recruiting game at the $ame level as Bama and UGA?

It seems that we keep losing recruiting battles with those two and occasionally Clemson, all the time. Do we not have bagmen? Are our bags not as big as theirs?

Foley is too cheap.

In all seriousness...this is another excuse to why our guys underperform.

The old, "everybody cheats except us" excuse.....

How about our coaches do a better job of recruiting?

Well if we cheat, we obviously are doing a bad job or we don't pay enough.

...or we're doing a bad job recruiting? Maybe these kids don't want to live in a "cell block" for dorms (vs. living in state of the art dorms at other schools). Or maybe they don't want to workout in an over-crowded, out-dated weight room? Or they'd rather hang out in Clemson or Alabama's 'football facility' vs. looking at pictures of a football facility that may (or may not) be done in three years?

But I get it, when other programs have success they gotta be cheating. No other way to explain it....

Well, there is a verified example out there, Ole Miss that correlates cheating with recruiting success. Reports of Trent Richardson driving a brand new Escalade and his parents moving into a rather large house in Tuscaloosa.

Georgia's facilities are nothing to write home about. They're even farther behind than us.

Sure, everybody cheats. Here's a couple more examples: Will Muschamp hired Vernon Hargraves III's sister to a staff position....then VH3 commits and signs w/ UF. Hmmmm. How about Joker Phillips getting fired for violating NCAA rules while recruiting for UF?

Well I did not say we don't cheat, I said we don't do it very well. BTW, his sister Carina was a grad student in Sports Management at UF and was a recruiting intern during 2014-2015. She was not given a job to recruit her brother. She was already a student between 2010-2014. He was at UF from 2013-2015. She was hired by Muschamp at SCE and is still working there.

"A former University of Florida assistant football coach visited a prospect off-campus before NCAA rules allow for recruiting contact, according to a decision issued by a Division I Committee on Infractions panel. The contact with the prospect resulted in the school receiving a recruiting advantage." That's from the NCAA report. It does not rise to an Escalade level. We fired his ass for speaking to a recruit during a dead period. Death penalty violation, right there!

I'm done with this pissing contest. You're right. I'm wrong. We don't cheat (well), but everyone else does it so much better than us....

I don’t think bagman are an issue. Cheating across SEC schools is virtually the same. I think Bama does it at a slightly higher level.

People want to play for winners. And they want the new toys. We are currently a shyt storm program With crap facilities.

We used to apparently, because we've never had any trouble landing talent. That all changed when HS coaches and their players realized we were wasting kids' college careers due to inept coaching. Hopefully that changes.

The facilities are an issue as well. But I think a distant second to the primary problem.

You have to appear/seem to believe in your product to sell it... you have to like what you see or want it to buy it. UF appears to be the current P5 leper colony

I'd agree with all of this(sadly, even the last sentence to a degree). I think what Alabama has always done very well is identify specific targets that they simply cant--and won't--miss on. Those difference makers create the momentum for everyone else, and the rest fall into place. It'snot rampant cheating, but they'll break rules if they have to. I doubt we're a whole lot different. But we've just been such a mess that we're no where near the well-oiled-machine that Saban has created. And to be clear, none of this matters without great recruiters. So it's not as simple as paying someone or lining up a job for a relative, and it's done. They deserve credit for their relentless approach as well.

Someone brought up Ole Miss. The problem they had was a) being a newbie, b) being a thorn in the side of a legend, and c) being way too obvious. They were the flashy new money that didn't even try to hide how they got it(think Frank Lucas burning his mink). Nor did they care whose feet they stepped on along the way. They thumbed their nose both at rivals and those that governed them, feeling that somehow they were untouchable. I don't care what business in you're in--legit or otherwise--that will get you pinched.

You want to know why were falling further behind in recruiting? Look no further than the staff. If you look at both Bama and UGA they are loaded with great recruiters we have none and that's always on the HC. We had a good group of recruiters when we had Muschamp but when Mac took over it fell apart and then Mullen decided to bring most of his staff from Miss St. I think you need at least 2-3 elite recruiters to succeed. Again we have not one elite recruiter. I dont even think we have any solid recruiters if I'm being honest.

I think we have an average staff top to bottom. I dont think any of our coaches will be up for HC jobs any time soon or even position coaches up for coordinator jobs. It's sad how far we have fallen if you think about it. I for one dont think facilities being upgraded by 3 years will help this class or the next either. Like someone else said kids want things now not in the future

None of this is ever gonna change until we have some new blood making the decisions up top

We definitely have a see me good positional coaches. Which we haven’t had since Meyer.

Recruiters? Eh.

I'm not saying their not better than what we've had I'm just saying they are career position coaches and coordinators. Who on this staff is going to be getting calls for HC jobs. This staff will follow Mullen to whatever low tier school that hires him when he's fired in 6 years.

Losers always blame bag men. We used to win all the recruiting battles.

I’m agreeing with you. Letting Seider go was awful.
