We certainly need some 235# plus bodies at that spot and there is no way around it...Davis got close a couple of years back but I don't think we've had anyone over 240 since Bostic and J. Jenkins in 2011 & 2012.

You're simply a broken record that this team is awful and is going to go winless.

I've said it before: Yes, UF talent is down from normal levels, but it's still better than most other teams on the schedule. The SEC East outside of UGA SUCKS, and our one major test from the West, LSU, is also in the toilet with an embarrassment of a head coach that should be a janitor somewhere.

The ONLY game on the schedule that we should lose on paper is UGA. All the rest are winnable, even with this group of misfits.

If we have even mediocre QB play this team will win 8 games in their sleep, with a definite shot at 10. That doesn't mean they're a great team, it's just the weakest schedule I've seen since I started watching the Gators play in 1989.

And one more thing: Butters is gone. Mullen is Lombardi in comparison.

What makes you think FSU is a winnable game we haven't been competitive with them in years. They might have a bad coach like we do but on paper they still have way more talent on their team plus it's in Tallahassee. I'm not saying we couldn't win but facts are facts they are more talented right now.

Never in recent history did we have a roster full of trash we stole from FAU, FIU and Houston Baptist, never. Not even in 1979. Not during probation, never.

There are two maybe three OL on this team that would make the roster (not depth chart) on other SEC teams.

WR? We have some bluechippers. Theyve done nothing. Most look worse than when they got here skillwise.

LBs? Seriously? We should cut them all and start over. All are either way too damn slow or safety sized.

Safeties.....I dont even want to think about it.

TEs, whatever. Just like Butters they do nothing well.

Other than that how was the parade Mrs Kennedy?

This is absolutely true. The SEC is the worst it has ever been in my lifetime and the SEC East may be the weakest division in P5. Even Ugly is a joke.

We will see how many wins we manage.

Yep, I mean we only had 2 SEC teams in the Championship Final. What's up with that? Alabama reloaded and so did Georgia. Now everybody else is beatable provided we get decent QB play.

I think 9 would be good and 8 likely, but imo, if Mullen should win 10 this year his entire prognosis for success at uf changes. If he gets 10 wins, he gets the recruits he needs to keep winning.

Good point, but consider this: Mullen is a good coach, just not a great one, and he recruits hard but maybe not persuasively. 10 wins with the defense McIlwain left means he is a better coach than we expected and recruits will see this. Ten wins in Mullen'' first year would be very different than ten wins in Mac's first year. But he won't get ten wins so why worry about it?

I just read this whole post and..... I think I understand where insti is coming from. On paper and without the benefit of firsthand knowledge of the past. Our roster looks like it has talent, size and experience. The problem is that most everyone is traumatized by the absolute garbage that the last two coaches put on the field. It's hard to even think that better Coaches and higher expectation of the players might result in real player development! It happens at other schools, ex. Mississippi State. I'm not sold on Mullen as the right hire but I'm absolutely sure that he is better than Musstink and Mac on his first day on the job. The one area that better Coaching can't change is depth...... we are short of bodies and injuries or suspensions might wreck our chances this year.
I think last year was an abnormality, even in a bad year Florida should never only win 4 games...... I hear insti saying he's not predicting 10 wins but he thinks than 10 is possible if everything goes our way in the historically down SEC East. I agree but my experience tells me that Lady Luck hasn't been on the Gator Sideline for almost a decade and if it can go wrong, it will... I'm hoping that better coaching, better S&C, weak schedule, improved player buy in and a little luck will result in 8 to 10 wins. If we don't get there will I know Mullen was a bad hire...... no..... but the effort on the field will go a long way to answering that question.
