The amazing thing isn’t just how bad the hire was. It’s the fact that it was two straight. You’d think the WM hire would’ve been a wake up call for his arrogance. Instead he basically insisted on outdoing himself.
The equivalent to the team trainer being put in the game to take the final shot trailing by two with two seconds left.

What else did you expect?

What is sad is that we ever arrived at this position.
The hiring of Zook is what really started this Madness--I don't care about his "ties" to UF and his recruiting abilities; he was a subpar coach and a loser coach at UF. I remember watching and being disgusted as we fell out of the top 25--and in how many years?
Then Meyer comes along and reimvigorates the program with special talent like Leak, Tebow, Percy, Spikes...etc...and he was great, but then Fooley had to pull another BS hire.

All I know is Foley was so smitten with Mac after interviewing him he would have paid anything to get him. Anything.

The only explanation I can think of at this point is a sexual relationship between the two.

TRANSITION COACH! HE WAS A BRILLIANT TRANSITION COACH!!!

Possibly the dumbest postulate in the history of this board...and that is saying something.

That's the risk of hiring someone who's never been CEO of a Fortune 100 football program. You really don't know how they'll do under pressure.
There's no way in hell i hire him after an interview.

I deserve it

At least I didn’t last past the Michigan game, right? That was it for me :)
You went waaaayyy past Michigan. You’d have a day or two where you wanted him gone but by Wednesday you were back on the Mac train.

Looking back and assessing that hire reminds me of the fact Mac put up his own money to help pay off the buy out of his Colorado St contract. That stood out to me as odd then, but not really enough to have concern over it.

Now in retrospect it does come across as someone desperate for a job that maybe because he didn’t feel like he was qualified for? Why would a confident coach feel the need to do that?Wouldn’t that be a red flag for future hires?

Nope. DelTaco wouldn’t be able to talk with Mac’s junk in his mouth.

Junk in the mouth aside, unless the writer cleaned up the verbiage that is clearly Del Rio (note the comment about he "loves" him outside of football - or something along those lines). Him saying Davis was one of the least liked coaches tells me it was an offensive player also.

And there are clowns who defended this reject AND Nussmeier (there's a thread on the front page right now about getting "creative" with recruiting, for example) and his assistants to the bitter end. And there are clowns who defend Foley like he's the Godfather of AD's (again, see the 18 page thread about Mullen having a win vs. Meyer).

bc he knew UF would give him two extensions almost immediately and pay him far far more than he is worth, which we did.

I would guess defensive guy.

You can bet ldr would be 100% positive and blame fans.

I posted literally at the same time you posted this...but I think it's an offensive player due to the Davis (OL coach) comments. The player had to be around Davis a lot to take that much notice.

I don't understand why he's still coaching (and why in the hell Harbaugh - or anyone else for that matter - hired him).

He's 55/56 years old. Go take that "Florida Money" to Montana, buy a 1,000 acre ranch, and live out your days. Why move to Michigan and work as a WR coach? He's taking a good job from a young, up-and-coming coach who really, really WANTS to be there. Instead, he selfishly acts like he cares and takes the job.
