What were the comments on Callaway?
Basically that he couldn't stay away from the weed and got away with doing whatever he wanted (skipping meetings/practices, etc). Nothing I didn't expect, but never thought I'd hear it confirmed from the inside.

Like I said, I don't hate kids. Coaches are different. I despise Mac and the day he was hired. As for someone needing help well....go look in the mirror. Being a jilted lover isn't healthy.
Could have fooled me, you sure seem like a grier hater day in and day out around here. And you sure do incessantly whine-post about sht you supposedly don't give a fk about. You're worse than the 'jilted lovers' you moan about.

That would be awesome. Let’s give the most prestigious collegiate award to a guy that failed an NCAA drug test.
Grier's failing the drug test never fazed me. To the contrary, it showed me he was serious about getting better. I also realize he was young and dumb enough to not know the best way to push the envelope nutritionally. He effed up. End of story.

We sure as hell know he wasn't getting much help from the coaching staff.

I know you would like to believe that but who whines on nearly a daily basis about a 19 year old kid who has been gone for 2 years? What can be said that will change what happened and bring him back? If he was here, everyone would say he doesn't fit the system Mullen runs. And as mentioned, if he was doing good in Butters offense it may have been just good enough to make them keep Butters. I liked Grier and thought he would be a star under the right program. He is gone forever and nothing will bring him back. Adios, next! P.S. Durty is my favorite poster!

It's amusing the cult following an ex-Gator has on this site. I get it that he's turned out to be a good player, so there is a lot of angst over what could have been - disregarding the fact he'd have been under the same inept staff, with the same undertalented teammates to work with that disappointed us over the seasons. Even thoughts of getting SOS back on the sideline don't get this much regurgitation.

I get that there are a LOT of kids who either washed out, graduated early, or flipped their commitment before even coming here and they don't generate the same amount of wistful thoughts...mostly because if they were here they weren't that great and even the 'good ones' we were ready to swap out in hopes that the next in line would be better (often not, often owing in large part to the staff that recruited and coached them), or for the flips they simply didn't pan out and make us jealous they never came here. Instead, those flips are either made fun of for choosing a different school, or we sigh relief when they don't pan out and they aren't still on our roster.

I get it, WG is unique in that he was one of the few bright spots in a dismal decade, and folks keep wanting something better than what they just experienced. But regardless of whether he made a stupid mistake on his own or was screwed by the staff it doesn't change the reality that he's gone and not coming back.

That's what's really amusing, is the churn his name generates on this site and he only played half a season for us and even that was a year and a half ago. There are more threads about him than any other player over the last 2 seasons. There are more mentions of his name on this site in relation to a Heisman than any of our actual three Heisman winners.

Everybody is entitled to want what they want, to wish for what they care to wish for, and to lament what they have or don't have. I'm not begrudging anyone that right. Its just funny to see so much energy put into a relationship that is going nowhere. Hell, he probably isn't even aware of the broken hearts he has pining away for him on GCMB.

I'm more practical. If I'm going to wish and dream, I'll do it about something that might happen, something that at least has a chance. Then again, this program has killed most of my ability to hope and dream at this point. My heart and mind have adopted a bunker mentality of 'wtf is going to go wrong next', but that's me. Those that want to dream the impossible dream, to spend their time looking backwards where there is no recovery rather than forwards where things can get better (or worse, as we've seen)...meh, have at it. If it spins your wheels, I wish you a good time with it. Seems pointless to me.

Nailed it, 78! This is the main point of the whole Grier debacle for me. I don't think bringing Grier up in these discussions is a manner of dreaming 'what if' as much as it is pointing out how pathetic Mac's entire existence was while he was here. If we had a real coach, we would've had a real S&C program (among many other things), and Grier wouldn't have needed to ask Chad and Brad how to "get gains" at the local GNC. I don't miss Grier, but I don't really have anything against the kid, either. Like the rest of us, he was just another victim of the Mac era (error).

Some people are just too sensitive.

Edit - nothing personal bayou, I'm tickled at how this topic is going, and it's only one small bit of the articles the whole thread is discussing.

if you think the stupid PED thing is going to keep Grier out of New York at the end of the year, you're more hammered than usual. Cam Newton was a thieving, cheating slime and they certainly didn't hesitate giving the Heisman to him.

This has been truth for many years now. It's been said 'character is not Heisman criteria', and that's played out with several "winners":

2005 - Reggie Bush (voluntarily forfieted by USC, not asked by Heisman committee)
2010 - Cam Newton
2012 - Johnny Football
2013 - Jamies Winston <<< THIS one sealed it for me
