Understood, but the work included on the field extends outside of the classroom and includes facilities/support as well. This isn't as simple as saying "come play with us for a year and we'll pay for your class". The vast majority of student-athletes will not sniff the next level. If you give the student the opportunity to ditch each year without consequence, shouldn't the school be allowed to do the same (pull scholly without reprisal)? And in that case I think the chaos that would ensue would potentially dilute the product on the field and destabilize funding and administration of athletic departments. Players have a talent that provides an opportunity to earn an education to include living and training expenses provided by the institution. This should be treated as a contract and the contract broken only if the terms (which should include good-faith maintenance of the state of the system and work put in by the student in terms of grades/qualification to attend) are broken.

Sounds sound, but what's that contract with UK's "one & dones"? What great harm has that done the school, as we see the trend spread? It's a bit confusing.
In this case with Ole Miss, the school fired the HC with "cause" plus their program was found infused with contract breeches that set off NCAA severe sanctions. In such a case, Ole Miss & the NCAA should just stand back and let "trapped" players pursue their happiness.

The whole premise is fatally flawed.

The kids schollies can be revoked at will. The 25 oer year limit is the only thing that keeps that in check really.

As we discuss the Ole Miss situation, I am assuming we are aware of the fact that both Stricklin and Mullens have been made defendants in the Rebel Rags suit. Don't suppose that complicstes the situation, though

... and both freely "transferred" schools - in the same conference.

I'll believe Jefferson and Grimes will be eligible to play when they are actually suited up and running out of the tunnel. Just like everything else with this program nothing will go smoothly or in a timely fashion. I wouldn't expect an answer until August at the earliest...maybe not even until the week before the first game.

NCAA will wait until it is too late for any other players to transfer out of Ole Miss (announcement day before the opening game). I think they will rule favorably to avoid a lawsuit and to further punish Ole Miss.

How does allowing a former ole miss player to play at another school further punish ole miss?

Why is Ole Miss opposed to these players having immediate eligibility?

If they don’t fight it, then it’s an implicit admission of guilt of the accusations of impropriety in their program.

An admission of guilt? They’ve already been found guilty and sentenced.

Shea Patterson blasts Ole Miss/Hugh Freeze:

Report: Shea Patterson blasts former coach Hugh Freeze in letter to NCAA

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/o...-blasts-former-coach-hugh-freeze-letter-ncaa/

Patterson spends most of the document describing, in detail, how he was allegedly misled by Freeze and, at times, athletic director Ross Bjork.

“It doesn’t seem fair to me that the only thing standing in the way of Coach Freeze making $5 million a year at another school was the discovery that he wasn’t the trustworthy, straight-laced role model that he claimed to be,” Patterson states.

Based on some articles I just read, it's not even real likely to pass. League is split down the middle on letting inter conf transfers play immediately.

:waiting:

If only someone had filed the NCAA appeal months ago, we wouldnt have to wait 2-6 more months to have their decision.
