I gave you a like because I agree with this post but I am really saddened that it has to be this way. How did Franks ever earn 4 stars? Maybe he proves us wrong this year?...….No, I doubt it.

This new rule is huge. I would take notice to how Saban uses it to his advantage. I imagine every single true freshman, unless injured, will play - especially if the team is a powerhouse and blows teams out on a regular basis. Anyone remember when we used to do that? It was fun beating teams like Georgia Southern or Jacksonville State and emptying the bench vs. being in nail biters (or losing) and having the starters play the entire game.

Our "12th game", which is played the week before FSU and is usually a big cupcake will likely be the game that we see all the true freshman playing.

I agree w/ others on EJ; he's playing this year no matter what (if healthy). But there are several 3-star kids in this class that very likely need a redshirt and this gives them a chance to actually get on the field, play ST's, and develop for the future. It also gives them hope, as a lot of true freshman screw around knowing they'll never play. I like this rule a lot. Should have been implemented years ago.

@PeterBurnsESPN: The BIGGEST winner outside of the players and coaches on this new NCAA 4 Game Redshirt rule?

Non Playoff Bowl Games:

A chance for younger guys to play with no bearing on how many years of eligibility they have left.

Coming Soon: The Winn-Dixie Bowl in fabulous Municipal Stadium In Daytona Beach, FL. Tagline: "Our prices are higher than Wal-Mart, but, Hey, at least, we're not Publix."

Before this rule, weren’t you able to play true freshman early in the season, and still had the option of red shirting them? If you played them a single play after say game 3 or 4 they lost their whole year? I think this new rule is fantastic, just want some clarification how it was before this rule was implemented. Seems like I remember some guys playing in like the first game then red shirting the rest of the season, or maybe I dreamed that.
