Didn't win a Heisman. Didn't stay for four years. Wore UGA merchandise, and posed with Dooley and Smart while wearing it.

22 should be taken off the pregame montage, and shouldn't be invited back.

I asked Emmitt if he gave a damn about not having a statue and he just laughed and said no.

Emmitt lost me when he didn't thank UF when he gave his speech at the H.O.F.

He never appears to support the program.

We got a lota sensitive gators in here. Those electrifying runs for three years and that domination of bama and his subsequent STATEMENT of being all time NFL rusher negates any of that superfluous nonsense............What he did on the field is what counts. AND his character was NEVER questioned...........that I can remember. One of my last memories was him standing by the goal post in the swamp while an SOS team was winning some new hardware...........yeah, he was there for our team.

See what Zambo thinks. He got extremely close to having a fistfight with him at UF.

Percy was just as electrifying. Does he get a statue too ?

So we are letting a bunch of voters completely detached from gator nation (who have royally fckd that vote up before) deciding on who our OWN royalty will be. You think all those Notre Dame players deserved that little statue? Hell no. If you want a lot of regional voters with all their views distorted view on southern football (and which many are jealous) to make a most deserving pick each year you will be sadly disappointed..........just ask Rex.
I wouldn't worry about them being detached from Gator Nation. They're not supposed to be attached. Heisman voting may not always be "fair," but it's as close to fair as you're going to get.

Leave the trophy to the voters and the UF statue to those who meet the clear cut definition of having earned it.

So you dismissed all of us but you take Dooley as gospel and immediately change your position?

Rat, Dooley doesn't have the greatest reputation.
Didn't change my position, just think the nays outnumber the yays at this point.

My position is, this is about UF taking advantage of a football legend being an alumni and possibly getting the three we have moved so each has there own spot. In 20 or 30 years Emmitts rushing record will seem so untouchable this will probably happen.
I've been saying for years here that the players walking a mile to practice each day is a big problem that was starting to cause problems with recruiting, only to be shouted down by the same closed minded posters that are posting in this thread. Let the little primadonas walk they said. Now they want to blame Foley when they were as backward thinking as he was.

Give in if you want to RiverRat, take Droolys advice all you want, but I'm not, and I never will.
Im still with you Thick and Thin even though I think our position is in the minority.
The one naging thing that bothers me the most about Emmitt is him not mentioning the U.F. in his HOF speech. That makes me think that something is broken between Emmitt and U.F. Maybe one day that story will be told.

I always heard Emmitt was pissed that Spurrier didn't beg him to return for his senior season. He felt slighted and I think he's hated Spurrier to this day.

Heck I don't know why Emmitt would be mad , it couldn't have played out much better for him.

What did Smith say to indicate he was unhappy with Spurrier? I'm not aware of anything. I think it's natural for a guy that far along in his college career to be concerned about a coaching change, even involving an offensive genius like Spurrier, who was known more for pitch-and-catch than pitching out. What if he doesn't use me as much? What if we don't get along? Stuff like that. You may not agree, but I think Emmitt had more to lose than gain by staying. He'd already proven himself to be a great college back

Here's what he told the Orlando Sentinel in October 1990.

"I think Spurrier is much happier without me, because now he's in a situation where he can do whatever he wants to do without trying to satisfy me or satisfy anyone else.

''So much attention was focused on me when I was there. If I were there, people would probably be getting on his back about why Emmitt isn't carrying the ball as much as he used to. Now he's in a situation where he can do whatever he wants to do.''

Just going off of rumors I heard way back in the early 90's. There's a reason why Emmitt has never gone out of his way to pimp UF. So what is that reason?

I think Emmitt's just not as slick as some would like to think. I was clicking around the internet before my last post and I came up with a few stories that actually poked fun at his butchery of the English language. He may be slicker now. Who knows?

Emmitt is definitely holding a grudge about something. He only shows up for the big games, where he can get maximum exposure.
I'm really just suggesting we do the same.
