Beat writers seem to just take ideas from social media. So Williston and Marianna and BMF do a darn good job keeping up on that front. Goldkamp ain't that bad. He seems to at least not tow the company line, but he needs to post more here.

Some are okay but none of them are truly honest when covering the team or the administration.

The program controls the narrative by leveraging access so they all must toe the company line or be frozen out from any real access. If a beat writer was brutally honest they are blackballed by the administration.

Oh sure, they are invited to news conferences but they don't get exclusive interviews or any real insight.

The closer to the program (Gainesville Sun) the more obedient they are so we get the same slurping cliches regardless of what is actually happening.

Sorry for the cynicism but I am still struggling with what we witnessed during the last three years and the virtual silence from the group that is supposed to bring the truth.

Agreed. They are usually a week or two behind, at best.

Most have always herded around the SID’s trough, taken what they were given and passed it on. When I was a student I’d hit the library and read the Tribune, Sun, Times-Union, Sentinel etc. side by side and they’d all have basically the same story every day. You can read Scott Carter and do as well.

I liked Aschoff a lot. Still do.

Robbie actually started at the old Clearwater Sun. I'm talking way back.

I was relatively young when the Sun went under. Mike Moore I believe was one of their sports writers. Names stick sometimes.

The Sun was the last real thing that tried to stop Scientology from taking over Clearwater. Too bad they failed.

So how does "access" help them. They are ALWAYS the last to know.

I think around 1983. I was in the Times' Clearwater bureau, the funny looking building with the windmill on top. The Sun was across the street. Remember this?

I'd stare at that damned windmill when I went to the dentist down near there and would nearly puke. Never figured out why. Was that building on Myrtle Avenue or Missouri?

Cordoza and Alboverdi should be ashamed at how bad they are at covering the Gators. If Cordoza would admit that he's just a baseball guy and he doesn't really know about football, I wouldn't think so badly of him. They're both obviously ass kissers because they want access to the coaches. It's clear that if you're critical of the program, you get cut off.
Donkey, Vettel should not be grouped in with Dooley and Robbie. His show on wruf was really good before he retired. He was one of the only media guys to be critical of the program when stuff didn't look good.

I thought I heard they are shutting down. And no new articles for three weeks on the website. That's lazy even by Drooley standards.

Am I hallucinating? It is possible.

They did shut down as of June 30th. I liked the idea - sorry it didn’t work.

Myrtle and Court. The building was demolished about a year ago. Last time I drove past, nothing but bare land. Depressing for me personally.

He’s a helpful clipping service.

And yes, others post post good articles too, @cggator.

Thanks, it’s actually been a while since I’ve posted any. Too many pumping articles, so not very popular around here. To be fair, most sunshine the last few years has turned out to be false hope.

Bill Sykes ain't a beat writer but he's the best imo. Takes the numbers and crushes all the pumper garbage these other guys spew out.
