I've been pretty easy on Dan Mullen. If you are anti-Swamp Ass then by all means welcome to the board.

There seems to be some serious butt hurt around here regarding “Swamp Ass” - what’s y’alls beef with another Gator message board?

Can’t argue with this - in season 3 we should have a pretty clear idea if Mullen is able to put the program back where it belongs.

Of course, the differences between us all come down to the criteria we use in evaluating him in season 3. It would be easy to say he should have won the SEC Championship by then.......wait, does that mean he should have won it in his 2nd season, or by the END of season 3? You gonna give him 3 full seasons, or more like 2 1/2?

Let’s assume for now that he’s a hell of a lot better than the last two clowns. That’s a very safe assumption, no?

In season 3 in a 5 year cycle (I know Florida is not exactly a 5 year cycle) at least 60% of the roster is his players. You could tell with McElwain even in years 1 or 2, that even though we were making the SEC Championship Game, we were not close to winning an SEC Championship. Mullen has to pass the eye test, what is the product on the field. Are we bringing in elite talent, especially elite Florida talent. Are we not only functional, but excellent. But year three is where we see his stamp on the program. His system and structure under full display, fully intregrated in the program.

To be brutally honest, I'll know by NSD 2020 and maybe even before that. Even if I give him a semi-pass on this 2019 class(which I am loathe to do), that class should be top 5 or bust. If not, we hired the wrong guy. Class number 2 should be HUGE and lights out. It's not and it's not going to be. That's a HUGE HUGE red flag. But, even if we roll with all the pumper excuses that third year class better be top 5 or he ain't the guy.

Why do I think you already know the answer?

I hear you, but the program also has to be re-established as a championship contender to land a top 5 class. It takes recruiting but it also takes winning. Like 10 games winning. Winning and recruiting go hand in hand. It may take more than a year and a half to get that top 5 class.....but if he does pull that off, I’m thinking we have an early answer to our question.

“Here” means here - this message board, where I’m a newbie. Never said anything about Swamp Gas.

I’ve lurked a while before joining, and got to say y’all apparently have a couple of serious trolls that have set up shop “here”. All this trashing of Dan Mullen while he works to breathe some life into this corpse called Florida football is asinine. And destructive.

Kelly and Frost weren’t coming here. Who was Stricklin supposed to bring on board as our next HBC? Mullen ain’t perfect and neither was Kelly or Frost. From purely a credentials perspective, It can be argued that Mullen was the best candidate of everybody out there. I don’t get the logic of trashing him in front of players, recruits, and their families 2 months before the season kicks off.

Dan Mullen has a ton of potential and between his 4 years as our OC and 9 at MSU, he has proven to be worthy of the position - especially given that neither Kelly nor Frost was coming to UF. I’m not the slightest bit convinced they’d be better hires than Mullen either. So Coach Mullen deserves our support as he works to get this program off its back. Trashing him at this early point is destructive on more than one level.

Well, I can say I made this assumption after Muschamp was fired. Boy was I wrong.

When we start kicking the teeth out of teams like UMass and FIU instead of letting them hang around deep into the 3rd quarter....It's one thing to get a tough game here and there from an over matched conference team but even that shouldn't happen everytime we play Vandy and UK....When we start taking taking care of those things then I'll start to believe a little more.

I agree. It has been torture to watch every single team we play have full confidence they can beat us...even in the swamp. That MUST end.

Other thank plank, he had no defenders and is universally disliked.

I don't know who any of these people are, but I do know they've gotten into Ox's head at this point. In the twelve years or so I've known Ox I'd seen only one typo from him. This is the second.

Thanks for pointing that out. Now I can go back and correct it.

No it doesn't and even using that BS theory on what the problem is then we are destined for a 5th crappy class in 6 years in 2020 since we won't be winning 10 games or fielding an exciting offense in 2018 with Franks at QB.

Heck just look at other top programs that had hit skid row in the South and look at their new coaches 2nd class last season or what they look to be heading to this season.

I loved the revisionist history that Ox caused the destruction of the forum at Gator Sports. Never heard that one before.

I have. It was being floated around after it shut down by a couple of people that didn't care for me. I was supposedly an evil tyrant that everyone hated - I banned anyone instantly that annoyed me. People were fleeing that board in droves due to my reign and finally the Sun just had to shut it down.

You seem pretty sure of that. Here in this same forum we’ve got posts pointing out that you don’t teach a child to swim by throwing them in the deep end - yet that’s essentially what was done to Franks, given the known fact that Mac and Nuss were beyond incompetent at developing quarterbacks.

And then there’s Trask, who not only had no coaching prior to Mullen arriving, he’s also had no snaps. You’re awfully quick to just write these two guys off as failures. Considering our relatively easy schedule this season, we may not suck as bad as you think.
