Does anyone think that maybe there were in fact more silent commits and this was timed with the Jefferson/Grimes announcements to jump start us?

I don’t believe anything about silent commits. But I do think it was released the way it was done intentionally. All the information was basically released an hour before he was to appear at media days.

Gotcha. We've had guys not qualify in the past. IMHO, you take him regardless if you think he's going to or not just to create buzz and momentum.

UF historically does NOT take hopeless cases. UF historically does not take someone who failed a bunch of classes and repeated them as UF in the past averaged the grades of classes taken multiple times. This is why players that signed at AU at times in the past could not even visit UF.

Sure sometimes in the past guys either screwed up their core or core GPA in their final semester after signing or did not quite get the test score they need. But again UF does not have a history of signing hopeless cases.

Of course any new regime can always change that. And by new regime I mean in UF's UAA, admissions or president. These decision are well above the pay grade of a mere football coach. Of course given the SEC limit on signing, it would be silly for UF to change now and waste a signing slot on someone with no hope to qualify.

The only two hopeless causes that really come to mind for me was John Brown (he qualified but couldn’t even read) and D’Anfernee McGriff. But everybody knew that McGriff more than likely was not going to qualify.

Black could be the domino that starts the others falling.

Would not be surprised to see on of Summerall, Kimbrough, Zip, or Elam pull the trigger soon.

So, two very good 2020 commits and one awesome 2019 commit from FNL? I'll take that for now.

Very nice get by Mullen and staff! I've been very critical of this staff so far but this is a very nice get and they deserve the credit for it. Hopefully it helps gain some momentum. :bananarope::bananadance2::bananarope::stars::sohappy::stars::chomp:

If John Brown qualified, then he was not a hopeless case as a recruit. Unless he did some interview with the UAA, admissions or the UF president, they would not know. And even then he might be glib enough to talk over not being able to write. So I guess that is on the coaches that he had no hope as a student.

What ever did happen with John Brown after he didn’t make it here? As I remember, he was supposed to be a stud. Never heard of him making a splash anywhere else.

He went to like Tennessee state or something right? I believe he had a learning disability so he could not even get on the field.

Tried watching but I couldn't understand a word he said. :dunno:

But "Gator commit" is really the only thing I needed to know.

I encourage you to try watching it again. Yes, his speech is hard to understand, but it's a very good story and you'll be rooting for this kid hard if you give him a chance.

Wow, a top 50 player, and a LB too!?!?! I thought we had decided not to recruit linebackers.

What a great and totally unexpected get!
