Some practice observations from Goldkamp:

CJ McWilliams is on crutches. Malik Davis in the Pit today. Boot on the left foot for McWilliams.

Shawn Davis not out here. Was told he got hurt in the scrimmage.

No Josh Hammond on punt return today. He didn’t look very comfortable fielding them.

Nick Smith also in the Pit.

Tackle drills. Scarlett beats Moon, Hammond beats Wilson. Wells shakes Edwards. Taylor missed Perine.
Pierce beats Clayton. Van shakes Edwards. Hammond beats Wilson again. Pierce drives through Clement. Trask runs over a walk-on. Massey beats Henderson.

Massey beats Edwards. Trask trucks Moon - Good lord. Perine beats Stewart.

English yelling at the safeties for being soft on a jamming drill. “DON’T LET HIS ASS GET UP THE FIELD! STOP BEING SOFT!”
Jeawon Taylor getting ripped by English. “I just f*^*>% said that, pay attention!”

@nwblackmon: Couple of #Gators notes from camp for folks from my sources:

1. Yes, Franks was ahead prior to scrimmage this week. Coaches felt he regressed in scrimmage- several poor decisions despite repeated emphasis on making simple plays;

@nwblackmon: 2. Special teams the unit that's made the "most progress" in camp. Guys having fun competing in that group- told it's "night and day" from a year ago when it simply wasn't emphasized. Of the specialists, Punter ahead of kicker.

@nwblackmon: 3. Lost in the Jefferson and Grimes eligibility excitement is Kadarius Toney. Coaches really excited to have a guy who was first Gator flex since Harvin to average over 9 yards a touch back- and as a secondary option no less. Toney's body much better-equipped for football too.

@nwblackmon: 4. Defensive line better than advertised early and coaches feel more about that talent than OL. Linebackers the pleasant surprise of camp on defense as reported elsewhere. Most significant concern has shifted to safety, where Florida is quite thin.

@nwblackmon: 5. Wouldn't expect a QB starter to be named now but also hard to know whether pecking order would change even if Trask was completely healthy. Maybe Mullen will clarify at press conference today but I wouldn't bank on it.

Sounds like Franks is still prone to Driskeling if they are saying he regressed in the scrimmage. Problem is with this offense if Mullen runs him much that Driskeling factor will come right to the forefront. Heck Franks fumbled a couple of times last year without the defender even touching the actual football when he took off running.

Hearing a few places that Slaton and Conliffe are really kicking butt. Don't seem to hear as much about Clayton as those two. I was hoping with the added weight he would really move forward.

So the take on this is get the ball out of the QBs hands and into the hands of our dynamic playmakers. Easy enough. Earn your money Mullen

Clement is playing defense today (our secondary is beat the hell up).

Lenton getting hurt doesn't help us. We are deep at RB... looks like Clement is going to be a DB this year.

Rumors are that Franks turned the ball over 3 times in the scrimmage to Trask's 1.
