Two highly sought after; only one who would be sought after now and he is a freshman. So, No, not making something work next year indicts this staff.
Disagree. In a run-heavy scheme, with this stable of backs, I think we should be able to see serviceable play at QB. I'm not looking for titles of any kind this season. We’ve just done this routine too many times.
Spurrier won 10 games and almost the SEC with Johnson and a walk-on. Meyer won a title with a bad fit starter and a Freshman rotating in for packages. I won’t even mention what other coaches have accomplished with less than perfect QB play, at times from true freshmen.
And again, I’m not expecting ‘97/‘06 this year, as I know it’s not a fair apples to apples comparison. But if we’re trying to determine if we’ve made a good hire at head coach, we can’t keep kicking this can down the road as we have for close to a decade and clamoring that we “just need a QB”.
Winners win. It’s that simple. Assuming we get back to a ridiculous talent level again, we’ll potentially dominate the way we have in the past. But to me, it’s years like this one, with scenarios as difficult as the present, that give Mullen a chance to earn the 6 million we’re paying him.
