$600m over 10 years? What kind of money are these azzholez pulling from endorsements? They're quoting $143m from boosters, but that's still a $45.6m per year finance over 10 years. That's crazy money.
They are going to finance almost half a BILLION dollars to get this done. Even at a reasonable rate, their debt servicing costs will be through the roof.

There is no way they have the revenue to support that and Dodge Challengers for every freshman player and their moms.

This is totally f'ing ridiculous. If UF tried this idiocy I'd stop buying season tickets. What screwed up priorities. It's no wonder Alabama keeps graduating dumbasses. I've met many.

what are they making, 160-180 million a year?

I guarantee you they don't give 30 million back to the university general fund like we do, and they don't give a crap about their non-revenue Sports.

they may never win one of those low debt championships either.

it's easier to raise money when they are not pulling a bait and switch sending 60 cents of every dollar to something you don't want to support or don't care about.

we used to be top two or top three revenue until Foley strangled the program. maybe they can right the ship with all that baseball and gymnastics Revenue.

When is the University of Florida joining this "arms race"?

We have already surged ahead. The Florida endowment fund dwarfs the Alabama Senior Community College and Football University endowment. My donations go to chairs and scholarships, not NFL training programs. Remember, this place is an institution of high learning. Top 25 academics, number one sports campus and greatest progenitor of leaders in the free world. Go Gators.

All projects are subject to...... fundraising success.

Right! And good luck in talking all the 'Bama cotton farmers into hocking their plows in an effort to come up with all that cash!

That's fine, so long as that's what you CHOOSE.

What is the point in a gigantic endowment that the university doesn't touch and instead continues to raise tuition exponentially anyway?

I'd like to see spending numbers from 20 or 30 years ago. My sense is it is about proportionally the same. The issue isn't so much the percent as it is the timing of the percent.

I'm not following. Are you meaning Florida and Bammer revenues are the same? Timing of what percent. I just don't have the desire to dive THAT deep into the numbers.

We have increased revenue obviously, thanks to the ESPN money, but we've been sending money to the university for who knows what forever. It isn't a recent thing.

2009:
TAMPA - When the University of Florida needs cash, there's one place it can always turn: its athletic department. As part of the university's efforts to put together a worst-case plan reflecting as much as a 10 percent budget cut, the University Athletic Association was asked for a $6 million donation to help make ends meet, University of Florida President Bernie Machen said. It's not the first time the athletic department has helped fund academics. Since 1990, the athletic association has made annual contributions to the university totaling in excess of $48 million - including more than $9.5 million two years ago. Some of that money has gone to UF's general fund, dispersed for myriad programs. Some has gone to the library,

Sports generate millions of dollars for UF

The numbers have only increased since then. One year I think we sent 30 million to general fund. Keep in mind the university itself operates on close to 2 BILLION a year, with the vast majority being grants and contracts, not tuition. 20-30 million from the UAA doesn't affect our ability to function as a university, at all.

All while the endowment sits on 2 BILLION which they won't touch ever.

Yeah but AAU!

And we are Debt Ratio Champions!

If there is ever a second great recession, they will implode.

I’m giving this post a like a year and a half after the fact.

Old man, are you smoking weed for glaucoma?

Who GAF about the size of the endowment fund?

Only the professors who get funded by it to do their 3-6 hours of work a week.
